Posts: 303 Location: Valentine, NE USA | ON AVERAGE, how far do/did you normally travel to fish for muskies? We're talking about weekend trips, not Outings, special once-per-year vacations, or Tournaments...just the average, run of the mill fishing trip. I'm usually able to stay within 150 miles, just curious to see how far everyone else is driving.... B

Location: Des Moines IA | Just mapquested it, 93 miles from Elgin to Pewaukee, one way. That's for a single day. I have been on a few single day trips to Webster. Which is 172 miles one way. With current gas prices, don't see driving to Webster for one day excursions too often anymore though.

Posts: 696 Location: Northern Illinois | About 4 1/2 hours to the cabin which is roughly 280 miles or so which happens almost every other weekend. Next year I'll be paying my own way for everything and I'm not sure how many times I'm gonna be going with the gas prices the way they are!

Posts: 1086 | From my house in Indy to the lake cottages on Webster, it's 155 miles one way. We do that on the weekends. So...over 300 miles round trip to fish the muskies. I can fish closer to home for the 'skis...but on the normal weekend basis, we go north to Webster. I'm talking with my uncle and my cousin right now with what to decided to do about our yearly trip to our cabin up in Michigan. We're thinking due to gas prices, among a few other things, we may skip this year's trip to Michigan and just stick to fishing Indiana lakes instead. Our cabin in Michigan is land locked, back in a forest. It's more of a hunting cabin. Free place to stay though. So, that'd means we trailer 1/2 hour one way to the lake each day and another 1/2 back each day. Plus the gas for boats, then the gas for the trucks there and back.....with both my cousin and I having our kids now....it's time to rethink a few things and put some priorities in line. Posts: 94 | I take my gear and walk about 400 yards. Why drive several miles when you can just walk a couple blocks and almost fish in your own backyard?

Posts: 3510 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Well...To get there it is almost 200 miles. Once there, though, it is a matter of walking out the front door to the boat. Father's cabin is on a lake chain that has muskies, and being a teacher I don't need to be back home until the last week of August. Steve

Posts: 158 Location: Eagan, MN | Like Obfuscate I'm about 10 miles from Minnetonka. I should go north once in awhile but it's hard to drive 100+ miles when we have so many great lakes close by. I'd drive much farther if I had to.

| My driveway to the south access on Detroit Lake in Minnesota is 62 miles. I know, because I count down about every mile until I get there. Unlike some of you, I get to Musky fish at most, 4 times per month, with two of those being outings of 3 hours or less. I truly appreciate any time on the water I can get. As far as the gas prices are concerned, as long as I've got a pulse and a credit card, I'm going Muskie fishing whenever possible. I hope the guys that went out today are finding some success. My first trip of the year isn't until June 10th, but you can bet my hooks will be sharp. | |||

Posts: 906 Location: Warroad, Mn | In the summer I'm walking distance to the LOTWs, but then put 50-100 miles per day on the water. In the winter I drive 3,000 miles to get to the lake and back, then it's 10 miles each way when I'm there. Lots of miles over the year! Wish gas was a little (lot) cheaper! Doug Johnson
