What guides have you hired that you really enjoy being in the boat with??
For me, I've always had fun fishing out of Tony Grant's place down on the Cave (Tony G., Gregg T., and Dave C.)
Of course, I have a good time fishing with Thorpe!!!
I just talked with Frank Dimarciantonio on the phone, and I look forward to fishing with him this summer.

| Without question.....Jim Saric
I first fished with Jim on June 12th 1997. I learned more in one day of fishing with him then I have fishing for muskies in 11 years. OK maybe that's a little much, but after one day with him I had a real good understanding of were muskies hold and why. A lot of guides take you fishing, but Jim takes the time to teach you. I have fished with him many times since and he is still teaching me.
His advice has help me place in the top 10 of many tournaments. Oh yea, the first guide trip with him we caught 8 fish. We also have had 9 and 5 fish days. A great learning experience.

Larry "the guide", Temple Bay Lodge on Eagle Lake. He drank all of our beer on the boat and back at the cabin too. Not too menion the Crown Royal. He definitely had a hollow leg.
He also put us on to some nice fish.

Location: Greenfield, WI | Steve Worrall and Dave Dorazio both are great. They know their muskie fishing and will keep you in stitches all day in the boat.
A word of warning, the best defense is a good offense, and you had better have a thick skin, because the teasing may be of "Olympic" proportions.
A day in the boat with each should be mandatory for all of us! |

| I had the chance to fish with two guides this summer.
Dan Craven a couple times on Leech. Very good fisherman and just a nice guy. Showed me more about Leech lake in a couple hours then I had learned in several years.
Gary Bartlett on LOTW. I cannot believe how hard Gary worked at getting my dad and I a fish. My dad got one and that is why we were there.
For what it is worth, both guys come highly recommended by me.

All are decent guys but fishing with Chris Walker has taught me so much, since he fished the FLW Tour he can relate to a converted bass guy like myself and fishing out of a Ranger 520 bass boat is something when catching musky plus he guides the White River in the summer for smallies when it is too hot to musky fish (bad for fish some guys tell me). He uses a Jet boat to fish that river quite a site....

Lee Tauchen, Madison Chain/Mille Lacs...loves teaching people how things are done right
Howie Meyer, Vilas/Iron Co WI....all around great guy, been on the water more years than most of us have been alive and has knowledge and stories to keep your day very interesting...

| The best guide I've ever fished with is Frenchy LaMay. He taught me more in one day than I learned in 10 years of musky fishing. Truley one of the best! |

Location: Verona, WI | I've only fished with a few (Steve Heiting, Jim Saric, Dave Dorazio, Daryl Neibauer, Matt Pohlman, Rick Whitehead) but I would say I learned the most from my day with Jim Saric. Jim focuses on teaching and I learned a lot. He runs his trolling days like a drill seargent and you learn. I have had the best times with Rick Whitehead - a great guy to just BS on the water with.

| Haven't fished with the "big names", but a local Illinois guy for the Fox Chain and Madison is Sean Bermingham. Used to speak at the Chicago Show but they nudged him out because of "contract" issues. Great guy, good guide.
Also makes awesome rods. Look for his booth at the show.

I am a life-long bass fisherman and was introduced to Musky this past October by a great guide ... Chris Walker. I agree with PGAschultz on Chris. For my first time out, things looked bad as no one boated a musky all day or the day prior. But, Chris put us on them and we boated 3 and had over 12 follows. My first time out and I got a 36" and lost another after a good fight. ANother guide pulled up late that day and told us that they had only 2 follows. Chris nows how to fish and where to find them. He is also a great teacher ... patient and sincerely dedicated to his clients. By the end of the day, it felt more like fishing with a friend than a guide.

Location: The desert | Welcome tarheal!...I have only fished with one guide....in St. Germain, a guy named Ken Jackson, now I have no one to compare him to but he was a great guy and a lot of fun to fish with, I also learned quite a bit from him. I would also have to say Jon Solberg....I havent fished with Jon but I know he knows his stuff and is a fun guy to talk to.

| Never hired a guide before but would have to say that my favorite 'guide' is Chad 'spirit world' Cain. Although this absolutely KILLS me to say this.... Chad might be one of the best muskie fisherman on the planet. I filmed him guiding clients this year and was blown away not only by how many fish he caught but how hard he work for his clients. I mean this guy fricken works HARD for his clients. never seen anything like it. Chad is a freak. He had 300 muskies in his boat again last year.....

I must admitt fishing with Frank Walsh was one hell of a good time, and I never laughed so much in one day as that day. But I would fish with any of these guy's again anytime.

Not only do you laugh your butt off all day long, but he knows where to find the fish in the abyss. I don't know another fisherman, let alone a guide that will put as much time on the water in a day as Paul does. I only hope someday I can be as good as he is!  |

Location: Lafayette, IN | I've only fished with one guide but it was a great experience both times. Terry "Ace" Sjoberg on Big V is a great guy and a passionate angler. He and Musky Tom really work hard to know that lake on both ends. I guess they must enjoy it, eh?
I will add that nearly every guide I've visited with has been very helpful as well as encouraging. |

Dave Dorazio: Dorazio=Chip, 'nuff said. I was green then (still?) and he even went into detail on terminal tackle stuff
Tom Dietz: very patient, wanted to teach
Roger Sabota: smart man, will share info and pick on the midget
Craig Swenson: if you haven't heard of him and you can find him, he will be worth your while
Guys that guide/guided, that I have fished with under other circumstances that were a lot of fun and sources of info....
Jim Saric: you might get to see the "pythons" if you fish with him in July
Steve Jonesi: Kly outing 1, Jonesi got stuck with me. Great dude and you'd think he fished Okauchee his whole life
Steve Heiting: He was just nice to me because my melon is bigger than his (not by much)
John Stellflue: What can I say, he's a good guy because he has the good fortune of thinking like me
