Started when I was 8 years old. happened to be out in the canoe fishing for bass with my mom and we came across a cisco kid on shore. Dad took me out that night and I managed a 5 pound northern on an old green johnson century reel. Been fishing for them ever since. That was back in 1979. And I am still waiting for that 50" fish. My time is coming though, now that I am fishing waters with more trophy potential.

First northern pike and first muskie came in the same summer on the same trip. That was back in 1982....23 years and going stronger than ever...

About ten hours total last year on Big St. Germain. My friend and I had two follows off a pontoon boat throwing bucktails in the morning while vacationing with our families. Next year I make a big push. I haven't really fished at all for five years, and that was limited to one or two trips per year for walleyes and perch on Cass Lake with my Dad. Since Big St., I decided not to bowl this season after sixteen years. I did not renew my golf membership for next year after four years (been a single digit handicap for almost 30 years). All so I can gear up for next year. I have a plan to take several guided trips on Pewaukee/Okauchee next summer. My sister lives on a small Lake between those two and I plan to practice with the equipment; working baits; learning how to use a locator, etc. I recently ran into an old friend that got a fully equipped Skeeter boat from his brother (things are going my way), and hopefully we'll bumble our way around a number of times also. Today I ordered three custom Diamondbacks from Keith at Professional Edge, and booked a room in Illinois for the Tri Esox show (gotta buy some baits and reels). Oh yeah, and booked a trip to Eagle Lake and Andy Myers Lodge for late August of next summer for myself and three friends.

Can you say easily addicted!!? My wife, family, and most of my friends are a little stunned to say the least. I tell them it was time for a change, and you should have SEEN those fish RISE up out of the DARK. Awesome.

So if anybody sees two or three idiots throwing baits on Pewaukee or Okauchee in a Skeeter next summer, and they look like they have no idea what they're doing, that's me and my friends. Stop by, say hello, and have patience, we mean well.

Sorry for the long post, but I've been lurking here for a while, and it just burst right out me. I'm a MUSKY FISHERMAN. Well maybe not yet, but I hope to be.

Kevin

I know NOTHING, but I have a PLAN.

22 years, wow, time flies!
The good news is that the baby muskies from that year are nearly ready for me to catch and have my homely picture taken with them!
What a year this will be!

I started in 1953 with my Dad. That would make it 52 years. Not bad since I'm 62 years old. The thrill has never gone out of the sport. There were ten years during that time I didn't fish muskies. And all I did during those ten years was dream about when I could start again. Three months after I got out of the Marine Corps, I was back up in Canada on LOTW. Now I get to spend 4 months each year in Nestor Falls. Looking forward to being up there this spring.

I put 5 or less. That's about all I have been fishing for muskies, but grew up fishing for northern pike (northern Minnesota); basically similar tactics, just no muskies in the lakes we fished as a family. Oddly enough, I didn't begin fishing for muskies until I moved to Utah. Strange how things like that happen.

I started in 1965 with my grandfather taking me out. For the first two years, I was the oars and anchor man as he called it and all I did was row (strong back, weak mind as he reminded me) and position the boat while he fished.

Hindsight is wonderful as the true value of that experience has become more of a realization to me with each passing season.

He was a hunter of big muskies and if I had not seen his methods, his perseverance, his persistance, I seriously doubt I would have the passion I have today or fish the way that I do.

To that end, I will always remember you grandpa and I miss you terribly and will always love you for what you taught me.

I started muskie fishing 32 years ago. It is funny to remember how well we did without trolling motors or electronic fish finders. Chris

This is scary!!!!
According to the poll, guys like Worrall and I have been fishing for as long as most of you have been alive.
If you are under 30, you weren't even alive when I started chasing muskies. Sadder yet, you've probably caught lots more fish than me. I only fished muskies on "muskie days".....like when it was too windy to drag crawlers or fish jigs for walleyes.
Man, how things have changed.
Beav
This is what I used to do in my 20's and 30's.
Only a part-time muskie fisherman.

3 years here. Luckily in each of those three years I've been able to get out at least 75+ times a season.

I only figured the years since I've been serious about it. I fished them as a kid and then had a 10 year span in there where I wasn't fishing them, then started in force.

Had to laugh Steve. Saw the one vote for 50+ and figured for sure it was you.....

I refuse to answer and cite the rights granted to me under the Constitution.Specifically those rights pertaning to self incrimination contained in the fifth amendment.Suffice it to say the Worrall and the Beaver were not going to be in the next boat coming down the weedline for quite some time.

Sounds similar only we nailed the heads to the outhouse. My Dad or Grandfather usually kept a couple every year that my Mom stuffed and baked for a family reunion. I must have started around 1958 in Sayner on Big Muskellunge using a Zebco 33 and a black Marathon Slim Jim or a chrome french spinner with white pork rind. I usually was casting while my Dad row trolled. My Dad was a teacher and we lived all summer at the old campground between Crystal and Musky where there were no sites, you just pulled in where you could and could leave your trailer there all summer. When they built the new campground we bought land in Sayner and started fishing more on Plum, Star, Dorothy Dunn, Ballard, Big Saint, and North Twin at my cousins. I still make my pilgrimage to Big Musky every year making a few casts in some of the old spots but mainly I go there just to motor around the lake telling my kids stories of how it was fishing with my Dad when he was alive. I'm 54.
