| I'd have to say Hughes River Shakers.
I'd promote my own, but that would be impolite.
Most gliders can be worked in the same manner.
Keep your rod tip low to the water, and snap the slack out of the line to get the lure to move from side to side. Pause between snaps for longer glides, or snap it constantly to get a walk the dog motion going.
If they are weighted properly, you should be able to pause the retrieve every once in a while and let the lure hover or sink very slowly. I don't like it when gliders plunge head first or tail first, because a large percentage of my strikes with gliders come when the lure is paused.

I like to make the glider dance vertically and horizontally, and don't care much for baits I can't get to do that. I'm a believer in erratic retrieves, so I really make 'em move. Lots of pauses, but erratic as I can get the thing to act.

Location: Ogden, Ut | I gotta throw in a plug for the Castor - my biggest glider fish came on one last weekend. EXTREMELY easy bait to work.
The other one I've had success with is the original-sized Muskie Treat; it was responsible for my first glider muskie.
Others that I really like the looks of in the water, but as of yet have delivered me no fish (they will - I'm still learning this glider game):
Slammer Drop-belly, Wabull (I only use the baby version, but have seen the full-sized in action and was impressed), P-Ron-Ah
How? I have watched a couple of guys that I consider pretty handy with gliders use them and have tried to emulate their technique(s).
1) Short, rhythmic taps combined w/ deliberate pauses. Add an extra tap now and then.
2) Erratic, no, almost spastic twitching with occasional pauses. I can never get the bait to do what I want to exactly (he can, but he uses the reel more than the rod I think), but it really dances and I figure someday, with enough practice, I'll be able to choreograph the dance.
Either way, I feel that pauses are very important to any retrieve you are using.

| Another vote for both the Hellhound and Slammer. Each bait has their own idiosyncrasies, so it's fun to pick and choose which ones you like. For instance, the Manta is exceptionally easy to use with a wide glide, but not erratic enough for my taste (though guys do reallly well on them). Slammers have a tight glide and quick taps can make the bait flash and roll or dart up and down like no other. Phantoms I like just as much as Slammers, and for the same reasons. The Hellhound has a larger profile, a great wobble on the pause, and the operator can make it do all sorts of tricks given the right amount of slack line (I like to run mine just under the surface then give it a HARD tap and make the nose pop out of the water just a tad). Try 'em all. |

| No one wants to talk about Trueglide gliders. I know why. They think everyone doesn't need to know about these fish catching gems. But I will.
I've noticed Trueglides catch the fish everyone else sees but can not catch. These are the quality fish. No marks on them. Not the ones in everyone elses nets. My success has been on Vermilion, Mille lacs, Crow and my lake X. Most fisherman need the baits everyone else has, a few don't need any help. Trueglides are in the hands of guys who fish for big, quality fish. My bet is one of these fisherman is going to be the one that boats the true record giant. I'll be looking for the Trueglide booth at the muskie shows. capt bigfish |

hey esox50 put that manta on a gloomis mn with a guick tip and you can make them dance and be verry eractic.. trust me o love throwing those baits with that rod. out of all my rods that one works them the best....bill |

| Saw this topic posted on another board and I like a lot of the ones already mentioned: Undertakers, Phantoms, Slammers, etc. Have to put in a plug for the Smutly Dog which works like a dream and also love the action on my H20 X-Glide. Tons of flash with a great "fishy" profile and has put some fish in the boat when nothing else would even get me a follow. Check it out if you haven't already. |
