I just returned from my annual LOTW's trip. I was fortunate to spend the week with Todd Forcier in my boat, his first trip to Canada. We had an up and down trip with the fish going really well one day to zip the next. My ups and downs also included losing a pair of Ocean Waves to the lake, and dinging my prop, but the fish made up for it.

We had two cabins at Walsh's Baystore. I think there were 57 muskies caught between the two cabins. The two biggest were caught by John Stellflue and myself at 51.5" each. I think we had around 8 fish over 48" between us. I know MRoberts, Jlong, and Todd all lost very big fish. I got a good look at Todd's at boatside before it shook loose, probably in the 54" class. That was one of the most disappointing times ever in my boat.

The highlights from my boat included the 51.5"er caught on Monday, and a Friday that I will never forget. Todd and I boated 7 fish between 34-48.5". We had 5 other fish on that day that didn't make it to the boat, an awesome day on any water. Todd had 9 muskies on that day, I wore a path out running to the net!

A huge thank you to Frank and Laura Walsh, the best hosts on the planet!

Here's a couple of my pictures, a 48.5 and a 51.5". Hopefully some of the other guys (Jlong, MRoberts, Oneida Esox) can post some of theirs too!

How come you got to wear sweatshirts and blue jeans, while I was sweating my Hawg Wobbler off!? AND it looks as if there is relatively calm water as opposed to the 3 footers I had to endure. Some guys have all the luck!! LOL Congrats on a bunch of great fish!! I hope you got my message while you were on the way up and one of those pigs is her. 345 days until I go back to Nirvana.

Here are a few more big fish pics from the trip. My best on the trip was a pair of 41 inchers. Highlight was loosing a big one that hit on a figure eight and fought for about 10 seconds before it decided to become a dolphin and go airborn. I have never seen such a big fish so high out of the water, when it ended fish went one way and bait went another. All my pain was gone the next night when I slipped the net under John's big girl after she preformed a similar arial feet. What a great trip, though I didn't get a big one I can't complain about 3 50+ inch fish in my boat on my last 3 trips to LOTW. I can't wait to go back.

Now that looked like an fun time, Sanks and I are heading to Franks place the 1st of October for a week. Do you have any tips for what you might of forgotten or needed? How was crossing the border, was there any problems with reporting in and after the day of fishing?

We'll appreciate any comments,

Netman

CONGRATS NORM! I see the smile is directly proportionate to the size of the fish!!

Great Fishing. I am trying to plan a trip to LOTW this fall-3rd week in December. Where did you stay? Is that the best palce to go for a novice Muskie fisherman?

Thanks for all the kind words, I can'y state how much fun this trip was, I can't wait to do it again.

Terry, we stayed at Walsh's Bay Store Resort. Frank is a great guy and the prices are very resonable. He will help put you on fish if it's you first trip to the Woods and need assistance. Check out his web site.

I have some more cool pics I pulled off the video we shot, I will try and post them in the next couple of days.

Yes, Baystore is located on Oak Island which is in the Northwest Angle of MN. To get there you travel into Canada at Warroad then back into the Angle to launch at Youngs Bay.

All of our fishing was done on the Canadian side of the boarder. This does require getting a couple of permits from US and Canadian customs, but Franks reasonable prices more than offset the cost of these permits. They do take a little time to get however.

Attached are a few more pictures. The first are a couple more of John’s big Girl. Then a pic of one of my 41s jumping and a surface bait strike of a mid 30 incher. John is not only a good fisherman, but he is pretty good with the camera also.
