Posts: 7039 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Its nearly July, what have you learned about muskie fishing, life, or what has muskie fishing taught you about life so far this seaon? For me: -sometimes bright baits are the ticket on bright days -believe it or not, muskies are more exciting than tarpon -sometimes a nap on the boat is the best for your dad on Father's Day.

There are no big fish in Wisconsin...HA HA HA Deep cranking can work on historical topwater/bucktail bite lakes Working for the man makes it harder to get out and musky fish Some people take these musky sites and themselves way too seriously

Posts: 8782 | 1. You can catch more fish on someone else's bent up, dented blade, no hair left, used to be some color #4 bucktail that someone gave him 15 years ago than you can with a $2,000 assortment of brand new, beautifully painted, stupidly expensive lures. 2. My dad can backlash ANYTHING. 3. If you stop paying attention for ONE cast all day long, THAT'S when you'll get a big fish up. 4. No matter how tan you THINK you are, 6 hours on the boat without a shirt on in June will turn you a color you thought wasn't humanly possible. As for life lessons: Live. Aprreciate everything life offers. Don't be a #### Jeff

Posts: 4266 | Even being retired....I don't fish enough. Making lures is fun, but using them is a hell of a lot more fun. 9-year olds are better at trolling than casting. Even during the summer, the board can still be transformed into winter mode. Beav Edited by Beaver 6/29/2005 1:54 PM

Posts: 516 Location: Kildeer, IL | I've learned that working on your boat is almost as fun as fishing out of it. I'll never catch a fish on an Ernie. Many hits, but no hooks in a fish yet.

There are fish in the stumps...big ones. Glide baits are great early season treats for muskies on mud flats (prana and the manta 10). I also learned the new 14" jake produces nice fish in open water.

Ditto. I need to learn a new way of getting some sleep during my weekends at the lake when I try to muskie fish, yet still muskie fish early in the morning, do everything with family during the day, party at the bon fire at night and still muskie fish late at night. I've learned that going on four hours of sleep for a three day weekend doesn't make for safe driving home for three hours at the end of the weekend....

Posts: 1936 Location: Eau Claire, WI | That I absolutely LOVE the new PowR Lok Frabill nets. That handle is so...... smooth. I love being able to leave it stored and be able to have it ready in literally 2 seconds. I've also learned that the more I use barbless hooks the more I like them and the more confidence I have in them.

Don't let your net man have 3 glasses of merlot with dinner before the evenings fishing. Lost the best fish of my life do to bad net job this june. Estimated 50-52 inches and about 35-45 pounds. It ate at the boat on a black buchertail and I had him on for a couple of minutes until he turned at the net and tha lure got stuck in the net and the fish swam free. It looked like a supertanker in the water with a huge girth. Caught a 48 incher the next day and we both agree that tha lost fish made that nice fish like like a dwarf. Thats musky fishing I guess! Posts: 20219 Location: oswego, il | The mild summer honeymoon is over and it will drastically impact the number of fish I catch this year. I should have never sold my boat, it sucks not having one. Met and fished with some new people this year and it's been fun. Just because it's a color you don't think will work does not mean it won't. I hate hot weather but I already knew that. Never enough time to fish and never enough time with my kids but I knew that too. Did I say that I hate hot weather?

-Favortie quote of my buddy this year: "Dude, for as much as you work on your boat it should be like 5 feet longer..." Seems something on it always needs to be fixed.... -My trolling motor doesn't like stumps -Someone already mentioned it but the one cast you aren't paying attention to, is when a fish will strike...Happened twice this year already!! -Don't leave your radio/marine radio antenna extended while casting.... -Some of the best looking spots don't hold fish...some of the worst looking spots hold fish... -Don't buy a boat that only leaves you with 1/2" on each side while backing in through the garage door....The people who make the turn signals on my trailer love me! -Best one...My boat is the best replacement for my ex girlfriend would have been wife!!! Muskie's Huh, not much, Life, well People suck, what muskie fishing has done, it's taught me that I like to spend more time alone on the water away from those who suck, I would love to use a experlative before the word suck that is another thing, other than that things have never been so swell. Posts: 550 Location: So. Illinois | Its just as much fun sharing my passion for muskie fishing with other people as it is actually muskie fishing. Got my younger brother Jim interested these past couple of months. Told him about the phantom lure give-away and he won. Sent him some cash to buy a stick and reel along with an assortment of baits from my box. Can't wait to get together with him to do some lung fishing. He lives in west central WI (Prescott). If anyone in the area ever needs a boat partner, I'd love to get him out with someone who knows what they are doing. He's a great guy and appreciates time on the water and I am sure would make fast friends with anyone who had a vacan t seat in their boat. Jerry

Posts: 1270 Location: Stevens Point, Wi. | I can't do what I used to. Tried driving 2 1/2 hours, fishing 12 in 90+ temps, and driving home. Made it about 1/2 hour before I needed to pull over for a short nap. 3 hours later a cop woke me and said I had to move. Made it home at 3:30 in the AM. Thank God my wife knows me and wasn't too worried. Like Todd M., I hate hot weather, but it seems the skis love it. Have had some of the best fishing in many years.

Posts: 2089 | 1. If I hear "Wisconsin has no big fish" one more time I'm gonna puke! I grew up fishing there, and anybody that honestly believes that is on crack. 2.Big fish eat little lures.Little orange ones. 3.I'm very lucky to have met a ton of great people through Muskie fishing. 4.The fishing BUSINESS is very demanding, both physically and mentally.Loooong hours. For me anyway.I am so lucky and thankful. 5.I'm having a huge sale this Winter.Start savin' boys/girls. 6.My daughter Ally is the best fisherperson I know.Just because. 7. 2005 is not 2004.From several perspectives. 8.The fish make the rules.Period.Oh, and they STILL can't read.Stupid fish. 9.Rocking and rolling in 3-4 footers, one foot on the trolling motor and casting ,is a full body workout.Like a Ninja. 10.The passion still burns as strong as ever. 11.The blind squirrel finds more nuts if he knows where to look. 12.I love what I do.Finally. 12 1/2.I need to Just fish better. 12 3/4.My 620 Tiller ROCKS in 5 footers! Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | That Muskie fishing still is what I'm about, even though Crappies are great eating. I need to sell my land so I can fish more. The more I fish, the more muskies visit the Frabill. Some folks don't realize how fast word ( especially 'gossip') travels in the Muskie business, especially in one's own back yard. Sheesh. 30 years in this business, and it really hasn't changed, it's just grown, and fast. Life? That I've made some great friends here, and reaffirmed that real folks will stay real and those who miss that mark, well, that's what allows one to identify the real.

Posts: 2037 Location: lansing, il | i have learned that no matter how much you know there is no way to catch a musky unless you have a bait in the water! i have learned that the small world of the "musky internet" is full of some very very cool people and i hope i continue to meet many more of them this year! i have learned when fishing with someone or even alone to keep a open mind and you will always learn somthing new!

There's a great bunch of fishermen willing to help each other out on m1st. Always figure8 even in the dark, when you hit something doing that 8 in the dark set the hooks. Casting for 12+ hours is harder than trolling 12+ hours. Casting produces less fish than trolling but each fish means more too me.
