Posts: 1335 Location: Chicago, Beverly | PIT tags were put on many of the fish, however I am not sure exactly how many. PIT tag readers are available to buy but really are not worth buying unless one is a guide thats on the water a bunch. It will be interesting to see next year exactly how many of the PIT tagged fish are netted by Brad and Jed and how much bigger the fish are.. I am not positive if this is the right company to contact about the tag readers, but here is a link anyways: http://www.biomark.com/products.html Edited by kevin 4/21/2005 7:28 PM

Bill and Kevin, let's take Mr. Worrall out with us on Webster so he can avoid that bad Slamr Indiana mojo!

STEVE-- Glad to have you come down to Webster anytime. Drop me a line when you can make it down and I'll take you out. I would like to show you where the 55in 50lber is hiding as well.....It would be my way of returning the favor for your great help up on the Goon. I'd be more than happy to put you up at my lake home nearby as well! Stay away from SLAMR out there, he has the dreaded "Webster Curse"--lol! Actually maybe we could get a few of the MF boys together for a MF weekend down here. JK

Posts: 6 | HOLY PACKED SARDINES BATMAN! Is that a confirmed population density?? If so, that's amazing. I don't know the population density of Bone Lake, but I do know that major Class A musky lakes in Wisconsin have a density of only 0.35 to 0.55 per acre. I'd be curious what the biologist's think about forage sustainability? Nevertheless, it sounds like fun and I plan on making a trip in October. GM

Posts: 2361 | Density goes right along with my theory that Webster fish should only count as 1/3 to 1/2 as much as "wild" muskies. So many fish in there they are pushing out on the sides of the barrel. Any real musky fisherman that goes there and does not catch at least 3 should be fined and the money sent to the "Aging Guides Benevolent Association", via my personal account, and of course I will forward most of it, minus a small handling and shipping charge, to Sworrall. Slamr, I think you owe us quite a bit of money, Sworrall wired me that these fines are to be retroactive!

Posts: 2037 Location: lansing, il | also remember that the sides of the barrell are being pushed out by an outragously high # of fishermen and boats, there are lots of days that you will have no place to park your rig. but on a good note, it is impossible to fall out of your boat and drown in webster, once you fall out just grab ahold of the boat next to you!!!

Posts: 2427 Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | firstsixfeet, your comments to me are quite funny. I would like to see you go out there and avg. 3 fish per day. You know what you are doing. Jeff, only 1 50 was netted. I spoke with and saw the DNR everyday there were out there. 1 over 50, 2 47.5, 1 47 were the biggest. Edited by MikeHulbert 4/24/2005 8:49 PM

what was wrong with asking what strain of fish? I thought it was a very good honest question.

Posts: 32885 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Just a bit gun-shy I would guess. Our Moderators are trying to keep the genetics argument and discussion on the Research Board, for many reasons, the most important of which is constant requests from our user base. I think the strain used there originally was from Pennsylvania and New York, but I can't locate that paper tonight. I'll see what I can find out with a couple phone calls tomorrow!

Mike-- Hey man--how's you year thus far? Congrat's on your fine one in "04. Actually there is an article out from Jed Pearson (DNR) that he forwarded to me mentioning the 951 skis caught and tagged. It also mentions the three 50's caught and tagged and shows a picture of a 49.5. I'll send it along to you. Jed em'd me during their efforts and told me they netted 72 in one day alone. Vannatta confirms this info as well--he helped them! See ya out there--next weekend is our guide for a day on Webster. JK

Posts: 2361 | Mike H., surely you are not suggesting they DON'T jump in the boat. I can honestly say that after many years of musky fishing I have NEVER EVER BEEN SKUNKED more than 7 days in any one week period. Webster would have to be just like cake WITH icing. Casting under boats and doging flying baits are my special areas of expertise. BTW, the ruling on your 20 fish weekend has not come back yet, sounds better at 10 fish but the fines are better if we call it 6 WME's(wild musky equivalents). Please Lord, throw me into that musky briar patch...

I'll see what I can find out with a couple phone calls tomorrow!" Webster was stocked orginally with a lot of Wisconsin strain fish, never been stocked with leech fish.. However I think there have been a stocking or two from other states like ohio, kentucky and possibly penn.. For several years(maybe even ten) all webster stocking comes from these nettings. -----

IDIOT bill bennett Hmmm, I am taking a wild guess that you did not read my earlier post where I claimed that Webster fish only counted from 1/3 to 1/2 of "wild" muskies, or you might have caught that I was teasing him, as I have before on this forum, and shamefully, probably will again. I was reading your post and kind of pick up a strong sense that you are from down by me in KY, it all sounds soo familiar... (P.S. Of course I am envious of Mike H., isn't everybody on this board? )

Concerning the forage base for Webster (and Barbee chain) it is packed full of gizzard shad. Obviously there is more than enough to sustain the healthy skis we pull out of there. They have originated from Wisconsin and Minnesota (Minnesota Muskie farm, Leech Lake Strain) but you rarely see a spot in there these days. Leech lake spots can be found more often on Tippy and Barbee where our club stocked them in past years. We now stock our own from our own artificially. Our IN DNR is to be highly commended for the job they do at this. Although Webster has incredible fish densities it is NOT a cake walk putting them in the boat with exception of a few lucky days a year that the Hulbert man obviously struck upon last weekend. Mike is a tremendous ski fisherman and is a "no bull" kind of guy so if he says he put 20 in the boat then he in fact did. Way to go Hulbert!

Posts: 69 Location: Toledo | There was another group that caught ten muskies over the past weekend! They were from 30" to 45"! I wish I could say it was my brother and I, but it was some other anglers I know. The next time it snows in April I will be on the water. "The Musky Shakes"-Mark
