Just wanted to share a couple scanned photos of some monster pike from Europe I've found, as most of ya'll probably never seen these pics, they're a good inspiration for upcoming fishing trips I'd say.

First comes a pic of a pike caught in Sweden in 1986, it weighed 26.57 kgs (58.8 lbs).

http://img26.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img26&image=gadda_2657kg.jpg

And then two pics of a pike caught (in a net) in Germany in the early 80s, weighing 30.47 kgs (67.2 lbs), this one is said to be the biggest Northern Pike ever to be caught and verified on a photo.

Nice pike for sure but I highly question the weights of those fish. They would all be world records if that was really the case.

Chick in Pic.

Is she trying to look "hot" .. or .. is she pissed off because he brought that "thing" home in her trunk?

Can't really see how they could all be records at once! Only rod caught specimens can count anyway, the centre pic if memory serves correctly is the current record at a shade over 55lbs. All 3 are great fish but would have been much nicer if alive.

A fish isn't automatically an official world record unless it's submitted to IGFA, right? I know of many fish bigger than the official IGFA records, but the people who caught them just simply didn't submit their fish to them. Don't think submitting record fish to IGFA is such a big deal over in Europe as in North America.

The first one was the official Swedish record from 1986 and onwards, but was removed as the official record sometime in the 90s as they found out the fish cut the line as he was fighting it, then he hit it with a bat, waited around and found it floating some hour later. Or so he said anyway. So now they have removed it as the official record, although the weight was actually confirmed. The second fish was caught by net so it can't count as any record, but it's a big fish indeed.

Check out this pig that Rod Lewis caught Oct.11 2002 in far northern Saskatchewan on the waters i fish.Hunting camp owner Casey Richardson is holding the fish with the aid of Rod.
The pike was 51.5" x 26.25" and casey told me it buried their 40lb scale!!The bays are already partly ice covered up there this time of year.

Now THAT is a big pike. I actually would rather catch a 50" Pike than a 50" Muskie at this point, because I like big pike and I've never caught one.

Unreal photo's.
I love muskies but pike markings are way more appealing.

Ok, not a monster, but it looks like a trophy being held by my honey of a wife, caught on Monday.

Yea, i compare that 51.5" x 26.25" pike to the ken O'brein and Martin Williamson muskies.I just wish i had a better picture to post but it certainly could of been a much worse picture!

GREAT PIX! I love fishing for and catching Pike as well. I'd love a chance at a hoss of a Pike like that 51.5 x 26.25 fish! Man that'd be awesome.

I can't seem to break out of the 30" range with Pike. My biggest being a 38". Can't seem to make my way into the 40" range....

My co-worker's Dad caught this pike up on Superior this spring. You may have seen the photo in the outdoor news as the Rapala Winner.
He didn't get a girth measurement of it, but was 47 inches long and weighed just under 32 pounds.

Since my last visit here I have managed to set a new personal best on northern pike, when I caught this pike a couple weeks ago, in late September. She weighs 16 and a half pounds and is 41" long. Caught her on a Zalt crankbait, and after taking pics I let her swim back.

Here is a 46 x 20 I got at Nueltin Lake when I was like 15 years old...so some 7-8 years ago...well over the 30 pound mark...had to have the guide help me hold the beast...with me being 6'2" and 240 at the time it made this fish look smaller...my guide is 6'5"...kinda dwarfs the fish...

got to know pikemaster on some pm's about a month ago and he shared that pike photo with me ..... it's one of two of the most impactful photos of fish i've ever seen. the other one is the one with Herbeck in the background of the Eagle Lake Giant ... i know i've been fortunate to catch some nice fish, but those two fish are truly amazing .... the one laying over the knee is pretty cool too ....

anybody ... did that fish look almost grey or could that be the lighting? do big pike get darker and resemble the water they are caught in too?

Sled,
The Pike in the Goon are nearly white at times. especially when the water is stirred up pretty bad. I've seen nice pike form LOTW from almost black out of heavy cover to bright green from the open water trolling in Log Bay by Sioux Narrows. I'll try to post a few examples of clearer water Goon fish VS stirred up, and a couple clear water fish from the weeds and open water. Interesting variations.

The first fish is out of 20' of water on Sabaskong in the clearer water. Second is from the Goon in very cloudy water. Third is Sioux Narrows out of very clear deep weeds, fourth is Wabigoon on a clearer water reef and 5th Wabigoon shallow.
