Posts: 152 | Since we are closer to spring than fall it is time to look forward. It was a great day on the lake today. Saw a lot of Canada and Snow Geese early. Not hardly a breese, and not a cloud in the sky. Sure was warm today. Three out of six prototype lures worked great. The Wallydad has got to back for some refinement, runs straight and deep, but that is it. Oh! The FISHING, yeh it sucked. No, wait, maybe I sucked! Did not get a scratch. Surface temps. were 41.8 on the basin, and 43 on the south facing shore past Cochran. No vsibility up there. The main lake is a lot better, but not great. I trolled down to 30 ft. and casted the shore where I found shad stacked from 1 to 15 feet. By 4:00 o'clock there was just a boat with two bass fishermen, myself and a boat fishin' crappie. What's that tell ya? The bass fishermen had one strike all day. I still enjoyed the day. Later

Posts: 180 Location: Kinkaid Lake, IL | I like the idea of the "spring report". Nice call! I too was on the water today. I fished until 3 pm. I was up fishing the beach at johnson creek and all the way down by the spillway. The water is nasty up there, but like chris hale says.....No water is to dirty. I learned a very intresting early spring pattern today. I found the massive schol of shad again located along a 1/4 mile of shoreline east of rock bay. They were suspened in 8 to 22 feet of water. I would troll through and then come back and cast. NOTHIN ALL DAY. I ventured a little deeper off the shore break. There they were. The muskies were like a wolf pack sitting deep in the main river channel. I found 2 "packs" on both sides of the huge school. I jigged them and trolled ernies deep, but no takers. My theory is they were keeping the school tight to shore for easy pickens. This is the same huge school that has been on the same north shore all week. Any thoughts??? I will be out in five hours... saturday morning is comming quick Hey red man. Was that you in the big green john? I saw a bunch of people out today. Even meet a new kinkaid musky fisherman from st charles MO. I was by myslef in the little silver boat w/ yamaha 9.9

Posts: 152 | Yeh, rain, like we need it! They have to eat no matter how muddy the water gets. I'm staying off the water for a while so I can get some things done around the shack. Got the kitchen table cleaned off and found a lot of stuff I haven't seen for a few months. Later

Posts: 459 Location: New Baden IL | I'm suprised to hear the IL Dept. of Conservation Police were out. I thought the budget had them all shut down. Why aren't they out there in June and July when there are 2000 boats on the lake? They could have a heyday writing tickets then. Rod

Posts: 688 Location: Northern IL | They write all the tickets they want just by sitting at the ramp, don't think I've ever been check on the water there. How muddy is it? Edited by jerryb 2/15/2005 10:12 PM

Posts: 459 Location: New Baden IL | 2/21/2005 Report Went out today with Chad Cain, and the first spot we fished, I stuck a chunky 36" on about my 10th cast. We weren't fishing for 15 minutes! Man I love being able to fish this time of year. I'd go nuts waiting to fish. Anyway, the water temps were 40-43 degrees, and visibility was less than one foot to around 3 feet. Saw tons of shad, and tried working over the big schools, but no other muskies cooperated. I did skewer a shad on a 8" Jointed Beleiver. When I held the bait out of the water, that little shad went crazy and it sounded like a Rattletrap vibrating. Pretty funny stuff. I chucked that Believer with the shad on it for a few casts...MEAT and POTATOES!! Rodney LaCaze Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Posts: 152 | Rodney can post the report becouse he got the fish, but I need to deffend myself on one point. He said I did the worst job of netting a fish that he had ever seen. I did a great job of netting the fish, both times. It was really the worst job of keeping a fish in the net that he had ever seen. Later

Posts: 459 Location: New Baden IL | 3-6-2005 Report: Only saw one fish, but had it in the net, then out of the net, then back in again. Caught it twitching a crankbait around last year's dead weeds when the fish came out and hit. Only a 33" but better than not catching one. Surface temps were anywhere from 42-48 degrees and 1' to 4' visibility depending on where we were. Not that much else to report, shad were shallow in some areas, bank tight, and holding deep in others. Rodney LaCaze

Posts: 180 Location: Kinkaid Lake, IL | Cold Cold COLD......Had a small fish follow on a rattle trap by the water treatment plant. Had another fish strike it a little later by the mouth of kinkaid creek. Both fish shallow ??? Saw a boat get a fish the first thirty minutes they were out. They were fast trolling the breakline off shore when she hit. Not to big of a fish, but a fish none the less. Tournament on Kinkaid this weekend...Anyone fishing it?

Posts: 459 Location: New Baden IL | 3-12-2005 Report: Sunny Bluebird skies till around 4:00 when the cold winds started to blow. I really thought they would turn on with that front coming in but we only managed to catch one fish, a 37.5". It was caught twitching a Big Game Crankbait up in some skinny warm water. Surface temp in the little bay was 52 degrees. After that, we only saw one other fish, but still had a great time. Rod

Posts: 180 Location: Kinkaid Lake, IL | I figure since I am a wee-bit irish and St. patty's day is thursday my luck has got to change. Well, at 4 pm all hell broke lose in a back cove. Pulled up a fat 42" on a manta hang ten. She was in a thick beaver pile. Another follow on the same bait but no strike. Then I put on a 6" pirhana glide.....SMACK a 45" Fattie hits boatside and about pulls me out. She runs straight at the trolling motor and I have to dive down and guide my rod between the shaft of the trolling motor and the bow of the boat. What a rush. The girth was about 23 24"?? Not realy sure . Chad cain was in the same cove and his client landed a nice fish. Hope every one else out on the lake did well. ![]()

Posts: 2 | Esoxdonovan ended up getting a fatt 41 incher (on a big sledge) in the boat on Wednesday and had another fish turn on a 6 inch twitch bait all in the same spot you pulled your two fish out of on Tuesday. It was crazy busy back there yesterday, always two or three boats. Cain came in and out at least three times. Sounds like they got a lot of action just nothing in the boat. Thanks for all your help, great talking to you. Next time down there owe you a dinner and a six pack for all your help. Thanks again.

Posts: 197 Location: N Illinois | I fished sat, sun and part of monday. The lake is definately in transition as some fish are spawning, some are done, and there are still pre spawn fish. Fishing was slow, but I managed 2 fish on sunday. A 38 that was skinny and I am guessing a male. The other was a big fat 41 that still had her eggs. Try diferrent areas.

Posts: 184 | I hate to be the one to tell you the news that will make you want to puke, but the fish finally turned on the last two days. Sunday and today have been pretty good. I lost about a 45" yesterday and we had five other follows. Today my client got a 43" and I got a 38". It definitely sucked on Friday and Saturday though!! Chad

Posts: 180 Location: Kinkaid Lake, IL | Fishing has started back up for sure. Alot of fish in small areas still. I got a 42 1/4 and a 35 3/4 today. The big one was caught trolling and the little one casting a funky chicken off a weed point. We saw tons of fish, 6 intrested, 3 hooked and 2 boated. Not bad for a monday. I also saw fish still spawning in 2 diffrent locations. One fish was HUGE. We threw creatures and top water, but she was busy spitin eggs. Pretty late considering the water temps are around 62.5.
