A lake or river is nothing but a field full of water. USE your sonar; See THROUGH the water, learn to think 3D.
Muskies are about as smart as a box of rocks.
Waves on the water Make The Wind Blow. Big Waves, Big Wind. No Waves, No Wind. Go ahead, argue with me.... Think things through about what is said out there about Muskie angling, and if the story you are given doesn't seem logical, it probably isn't.
Want to catch a 50" plus fish? Go fishing as much as you can where there are alot of them, and you probably will.

Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | They make musky gear for a reason, just because you landed your first musky on 10 pound test mono and a Ugly Stick, doesn't mean that's your musky out fit.
Once the fish is in the net, hopfully a rubber coated one, there is no need to bring into the boat to unhook it.
Learn the Death March
Just because you didn't catch any today, don't use the excuse of it was aweful. Figure out what you did wrong and improve on your skills.
Learn to take a break, even if it means getting off the water for a hour or so.
Don't 100% rely on a 10 cent snap.
When fighting a fish, there is no need to throw your rod tip as high in the air as you can. Keep it low, with pressure.
Just don't look directly behind your bait, but also be looking 3 feet below and 5 feet behind it as well.
Learn how the throw baits in a manner that will produce the most fish.
Don't be afriad to take advice from someone that is younger than you.
Late in the day, or night, don't get sloppy with your cast, or how much you are paying attention. You reaction time can suffer, and that can be the difference between losing that fish of a lifetime and getting a awesome photo.
Wear polarized sunglasses.
If somebody tells you about a 70 incher, and their biggest fish is 39 inches, the fish was probably closer to 50 inches.
Share information with people, and they will return the favor.
If you are plan on fishing till dark, tell the wife you plan on fishing for an hour and a half or so after dark, just in case the fishing gets hot as a fire cracker as the sun goes down. If it doesn't, well your home an hour early and you earn points for that!
Don't be afraid to camp on a spot if you really want to catch that fish.
You only need to set the hooks one time, not 5.

Try to leave your EGO at the boat landing and youll catch more and bigger fish while enjoying it a lot more. NO ones going to care or remember how many muskies you caught,but they will always remember what kind of a fishing partner you were |

Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | I deal with newcomers to Musky fishing almost every weekend I work. I give this word of warning....It's Not Cheap. Believe it or not, Musky fishing is probally the most expensive inland freshwater fishing there is. Out of all the advice I can give, I'd say that using the proper gear is the best. The wrong rod, reel, line and leaders can make or break a trip. Buy decent gear and you'll enjoy it, buy crap and you'll hate it and end up spending the money on better stuff.

| I just read this late last night - don't have the exact words but I'll correct it later.
From Muskies on the Shield, Dick Pearson: "There's no justice in muskie fishing". I interpreted it as saying, just because you pay your dues does not guarantee success.
The other thing I'd add, and I'm suprised no one else has mentioned it:

don't forget about any musky you catch. Those memories are what shape your wisdom, allow you to predict bites, and give gut feelings. When unbridled, memory makes a good stick, a great one. |

keep an open mind to everything and try to learn somthing new everytime out whether im with steve herbeck, or my 11 yr old and his freind.
the day i think i know it all, is the day i need to quit!
dont give up!! it takes pateince and lots of work, were not bass fishing!!
shut up and fish!
and most of all..... if you feel anything and i mean anything, SET THE @!#$% HOOK!!!!
