Posts: 222 Location: Hartland, WI | I am just wondering what all the hype is about this lure. How much different can someone make a walk-the-dog topwater bait??? They are all(for the most part) straight and somewhat round, this lure looks the same as the other 100 hanging on the walls of any good tackle shop you go into. Just wondering what the difference is???

Posts: 476 Location: WI | The difference is that you can't get one until winter shows, and everyone who has one seems to have caught a fish on them. The motto of the Weagle is "just another lure". Seriously though, I ordered one in May and just got mine this week. I threw it out in the pond by my house and it has sweet side to side motion. Stays a little deeper in the water than other walk the dog style baits so it has a better hook up ratio. Looking forward to getting it wet on musky waters. GotOne

Posts: 222 Location: Hartland, WI | That works for me. If it moves more water, and has a little different stroke to it, then my question is answered and I guess I need another walk the dog bait. GREAT!!!

As stated above, they're a whole lot heavier than a Jackpot or Doc or the like, and as a result can move a whole lot more water than either of those baits. The 'slurp' of this lure as compared to those noted above is much "bigger". The additional weight also reduces the chances of the fish popping the lure out of the water during the strike, thus potentially increasing hooking percentages. 4 fish on my lucky perch Weagle has made me a believer....

Posts: 699 Location: Hugo, MN | This thing has a much larger range of motion than a viper or a jackpot. It twists from 9 to 3 and 3 back to 9 I would compare it to a Viper on Steroids. Edited by marine_1 9/30/2004 2:07 PM

Posts: 1245 Location: Madtown, WI | NEVER have thrown a weagle...I have a Hughes River Top Prey that is the same concept...heavy, sits low, moves water, isn't pushed out of the way on a hit because it is heavy.....So far I have 52 and 46 inches (and some smaller) why I like it. With that said, I got it before the weagles came out. I would have gotten a weagle first because its cheaper, Shady is one heck of a guy, and it plain catches fish too. But didn't. The concept is a solid concept as to why it is preferred over the "pot"..... There was a TON of hype around the triple D....all of that is founded hype (have a bunch of fish on them too!) and so is the hype on the weagle. Cory

Posts: 2427 Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | The difference in my opinion is two things: 1. THE SOUND, when worked like it is supposed to be worked, the sound it puts off is like NO other bait on the market. The SWOOSH, SWOOSH is what the bait is all about. It not just another lure making some sort of disturbence on the water. 2. THE SIZE, AND 3 HOOKS. If you throw top water a lot you know that strike to catch ratio an be pretty low at times. With the large profile, 3 hooks, and the SLOW DEATH MARCH, very little fish miss the bait. Once people get one, there will need to be a "Weagle School" on how to properly throw one. I didn't know the "right" way to throw one, or on what kind of rod, but as soon as I did I caught a 50!!

It has more side to side action than the other walk the dogs. You can #*^@ near make it turn a 180 degree. During the "death march" I routinely get the bait to go past 90 degrees and has the head facing almost fully backwards and the tail facing me. To me, it's the action as much as the sound.

Posts: 259 Location: Alexandria, MN | I have Jackpots/Vipers/Doc'/PhatBoys and Top Preys -- I can't wait to get a Weagle and see how it compares. I have certian lures for certain lakes and certain conditions -- The heavier louder idea will come in handy. I don't have that big of a problem with hooking fish on these baits, so if this one does it even better, I will be set. I will be looking for them as soon as they hit the stores. Steve

Posts: 4266 | For one thing, my 8-year old daughter can work it. No cadance needed to keep it moving in a walk the dog manner. The weight is paramount. When a big fish tries to eat a light top water, it pushes a wall of water that actually pushes the intended target out of the water. This doesn't happen with the Weagle. The sound will call fish from long distances. I still don't have one except for the original that I turned into a B-eagle. Sworrall let me borrow the one that I repainted for him while I was at Cass. Topwater bite was non-existant, but I threw it anyway. Did I mention that my daughter could fish it without having to twitch it constantly? Beav

Posts: 184 Location: Rockford Il 61108 | Let the efficiency show on the water. Our industry is becoming flooded with lures that are copy cats from yesteryear. Jakes, Grandmas, Triple D's, and all the others. They all do the same thing. Its all about what the fisherman likes. Same goes with the color. Topwaters are especially flooded with copycats. I could tie a hook on a stick and jerk it around and catch a Musky. The Weagle probably is a good lure, but with more hype. PS---Cant wait to get one Edited by Evar D 9/30/2004 6:04 PM

Posts: 224 Location: Madison | Evar D - 9/30/2004 6:03 PM flooded with lures that are copy cats from yesteryear. Absolutely. I bought my fishing partner a book that covered the values of old fishing lures and equipment - not because he cares about what they're worth, but because it's fun to look at all the pictures of lures. It's amazing how much stuff is recycled in baits today, but a lot of the designs still work just fine. All that said, I too, will probably pick up a Weagle when they come out. -d

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | This lure is absolutley NOT like any other walk the dog out there. I can make this thing POP so loud it is audible on a windy day, and 10' from the boat can plunk it down like a glider and walk it to the boat under water. It figure 8's well, and works well wiht the cadence I like, best described by Theedz. On one afternoon, I got a 30.25" walleye, a 43" pike, and a 21' smallmouth on the thing. The muskies like it, too.

Posts: 335 Location: Orland Park | Hey Lambeau, Why would you sell a bait, out of curiousity? Did you really hate it that bad? How much did you get for it? I have a couple of them, and I'm willing to get rid of them if the price is right. Jackpots too! Steve, you have a great bait.....my partner in Mike James Cass PMTT has one.......It's awesome.........(It was good meeting you). But how much are you payin some of these guys on this site? It's like a crazy cult following!!! Edited by Commanche Jim 10/3/2004 11:59 PM

Posts: 336 Location: Lino Lakes, MN | i thought ths same thing that a lot of people are probably thinking. what can be so different about this bait? i thought it was just a bunch of hype, but after being in the boat with a couple of guys throwing one, and watching it out-perform the docs and jackpots that i was throwing, i became a believer. the weagle consistently CAUGHT fish that no other lure would even bring up. i dont have one in the box yet, but you can bet your ass that i will have one as soon as they are out. just my 2 cents. have a good one fellas. lazer

Being a guy that helps out the Weagle makers I have a little inside info. Wait for the video action at the shows then decide if it's hype. It's not a one fluke big fish lure it's been proven BEFORE it's sold. As the guys that make it say it's not the perfect bait. It's just another lure. It just works in certain situations very well. Eric What do I know I've never caught a muskie.

Posts: 1088 Location: Hayward, WI | The Weagle is great. I caught the 48.5 and a 39 in the Hayward Lakes Muskies. Inc tourney. Bad part is that I borrowed it from a friend and have to give it back, now I am Weagless:(
