Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Sue and I left for Canada a bit late today, but managed to get signed in at Indian Point at about 5 PM. We got our licenses, unpacked, and hit the water at 6 PM. Sue popped a nice pike second cast, one of 11 we boated before a thunderstorm chased us off the water. Norm, that Mepps Mariboo was a hot Pike bait tonight! I lost a fair fish for the Goon, maybe low 40's on a Top Raider. A friend of mine is here from Minnesota. They moved quite a few good fish today and lost 4 on head shakes. Tomorrow is another day! We had a great fresh fried Northern Pike and Baked Beans dinner, a beer, and whew, I am DONE! Camp is great!! The hospitality is incredible, and many improvements have been made to Indain Point. Well, the batteries are charging and the mosquitos buzzing, so off to bed so we can hit the water the crack of, oh...about 9 AM tomorrow!! Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The internet connection here was down last night, so I was a bit delayed in reporting! A HUGE cold front went through yesterday, driving water temps down 9 degrees, and creating winds to 30 miles per hour. We fished hard, and put several big Pike and Smallmouth in the boat. I had a true heartbreaker of an experience, will let Sue tell that story tonight. Ran into Tim McCormick, he had 5 muskies in 3 days, all in the mid 40" class. He had not moved a pig yet, but the water temps 4 days ago were 50's, then 68 when I got here, and 57 this morning. We need some warm weather!! Tomorrow looks good, maybe the weather will improve. My friends from Bemidji, Hopper, was up for three days. They lost several, one was a really good fish but not a pig. They were pretty frustrated, but happy with the action until the blasting cold front. Well, out on the water!! Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | We had a great day today, putting two muskies in the net and 4 Pike from 31 to 34". Sue and I each caught a bass, and had a great time working reefs with crank baits. Dinner was smallmouth and pike, rice, and veggies. We moved four other muskies, one was a good one, even for the Goon. All were on topwater, so those of you coming up, get ready, you are hitting this absolutley perfect. Water temps by afternoon were 65 degrees, and all the muskies came from less than 2' of water. Tomorrow we are going after walleyes in the morning, should be a very good time. Muskies in the afternoon to dark, which will give us 10 hours, plenty of time to stick a pig. Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | We went walleye fishing as planned until late afternoon, and had a blast. We worked hard for the walleyes, but caught some nice fish, which are broiling now! Then we hit the Muskies, and moved 7, 2 were PIGGIES. All the muskies we moved were on Weagles, only one ate, and she managed to spit the bait almost immediately. We have some great targets now, and a pretty good milk run for the rest of the week. One of the targets is a clean 45# fish, so hopes are high!! Here are two Weagle fish from today, a 30.25" walleye and a 39.5" Pike. The last picture is one of the 'Eyes we caught this morning. Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Today was a 'take it easy day' for Sue and I. We hit the water about 10AM, ran the milk run, and moved 2 of the 6 we saw yesterday, and 2 new fish. No takers, but the big girl blew water all over my Weagle. We caught no less than 20 big pike, and were in for the Indian Point Camp free fish fry by 6. The food was terrific, and the hospitality great. I won a hat in the drawing, and Sue won some Canadian Beaver Droppings candy. Seriously! Here are some shots from today. My Weagle is getting so chewed up it's hard to tell what color it was... There was a regatta today out of the Yaht Club, pretty neat to see the big boats race. | I would like to join those complaining about the pictures. Jealousy and envy, pure jealousy and envy. I was looking at the water color in these photos. I don't mind it a bit but I would never put on a glide bait in this type of water. I would be afraid of missing too many fish that I would think I could call from further out with a pull bait, surface bait, crankbait or bucktail/spinner. I fish that water down here often enough to feel like I WANT SOME TURBULENCE. Oh well, just my theory and they are a lot like noses and other body parts. Once again, quit publishing pictures and please, please do not put up the pics when they pop the 50+ inchers, those are particularly hurtful. If you have to show fish it would make us all feel better if they were wormy hammerhandles or cigar walleyes... | |||

Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | FSF, this water is a hoot. The gliders I am throwing are the Wabull and the Slip Slider, and an Undertaker now and again. I actually am popping the top with them, raising all sorts of noise. We are fishing very heavy weeds most of the time, so I'm walking the bait across the top, popping it down in the pockets, and walking it along; you get the picture. Surface baits were hot today for big pike, but the muskies ignored them. I lost 4 (dammit, yes, FOUR) today on spinnerbaits, a fluke and frustratiing as can be. Sue and I worked new water all day running several miles to the South and then the North after lunch, leaving the Milk Run fish for tomorrow and covering water to scout for the Outing next week. We moved 9 muskies, none much under 40" and none much over 48". I would have been happy as heck with any of them in the net, but oh well! We caught 23 pike over 30" today, with Sue's personal best 37" the biggest. I had a muskie charge a fouled spinnerbait that was all wrapped up in the line, and eat the thing at boatside, line, leader, and all. I lost the fish. Sheesh. We got out about 10AM, came in for lunch at 3, and went back out at 4:15. We fished bass some, and Sue got her personal best, a 20" smallmouth. She also got her personal best Pike today on a topwater, so we had a great day on the water! We found good water for the guys coming up, and talked to a couple other anglers out there who had about the same success as we did. One fellow boated one in the mid 40's, and lost a big fish on a jump. Tomorrow looks great, warm and a chance of rain. We will get out on the water sometime in the morning, that's for sure. Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Sue and I are Match fishing today, and wen out at 6 AM. We moved 8 muskies, all good ones, and never got ONE to eat. BIG swirls, then a follow, no matter what we threw at them. One of the 8 I had up 3 times, she missed a Jerko clean, and followed to the boat. Some of the guys are arriving in Camp, so we came in to welcome and orient everyone. We wil be back on the water by 6 or so, I hope. The hospitality here at Indian Point Camp is OUTSTANDING! We hit the water again for a couple hours, but no muskies showed. Big pike did, which Sue enjoyed. The Crew is in, looks like we will have about 20 here for the week. Slamr will take over reports until I can get back up, which should be Wednesday at the latest. here are some shots from today! Posts: 7119 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Weather came in early and hit hard with big winds and rain, but the MuskieFIRST crew prevailed. Three rigs went to Eagle, with one 46" to show for the short trip. Wabigoon provided some nice 'eyes for one rig, and Worrall's dinner in Pike. Jonesi moved some nice fish today as did Slamr's rig, so all in all the fishing wasn't terrible despite the weather. Looks like a few days of stable weather, if one can believe the weatherman here. Everyone is having a blast. The Indian Point Camp Free Fish Fry is tomorrow, pictures of fishermen becoming fat (ter) to follow! Here is a picture of Quinn Kurtz's 44 Topwater fish from yesterday on the Goon, and the front coming in that dropped water temps nearly 10 degrees today. Todd, I was thinking of all kinds of reasons for quitting my job, but figured I better keep it for a bit with the wedding coming up and I seem to have developed a spendy habit at Wally World  or maybe it that I just like to eat, shop, whatever. Trying to go on trip with Steve in late August for the MuskieFIRST outing. And besides one of us had to be here for muskie league, although never got a hit or even a swirl - only three more weeks left of that. This year is going by sooo fast will have to start saving for my bait binge shopping at the sport shoes this coming winter. Szq | |||

Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | We had a fair day except for breakdowns, which we figured out. Here are some shots of the day, with some of the fish caught. Jeff and Randy lead with 3 fish, a 46 (second picture, and Eagle lake fish, just minutes from Indian Point Camp), 45, and 40. Slamr moved a piggy, lost her after a brief battle. I'll let him tell of the fish he saw later. The good folks at Indian Point prepared their signature fish fry for us tonight, and after dinner handed out custom T shirts to every one here. We WILL be back next year!! Several of the Anglers here skipped the dinner to try to stick a fish they had been seeing. More tomorrow.. Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Great day, but the Muskies came unpinned for me. Talked to Slamr, he moved two big fish, no takers. Chet got a 40.25" pike with me, I got one close to that, and a 29" walleye to boot. Lost a PIG, story of my life here. Chet saw her later, brought her to the boat, where he stared at the fish and said, " If that fish hits me here, it's pulling me RIGHT into the lake!" Chet has never fished Muskies, so this was quite an experience for him to see fish that size.
