Posts: 379 Location: Thief River Falls MN | This is the first pic taken of my openeing day fish. I like it because I am still admiring the fish when the photo was taken. I was kind of in shock when I pulled her out of the net- I didn't think she was nearly as big as she was:0 Attachments ---------------- 51opener2004.jpg (92KB - 122 downloads)

Posts: 189 Location: Hoboken, NJ / North Webster, IN | Easy now....just a joke boys....came across the photo recently....it's my grandfather in the late 50's early 60's.....and with the rules emphasizing THIS June-November thought it would be a laugh. You find me anyone that caught and released back then....at least he was supporting the belly....wouldn't think of keeping one now....education and awareness are great things. Just think it's funny how the technology has changed ...80lb power-pro, IM-8 rods, GT reels, hi-tech baits, etc.... No harm intended..hope to have my own shots up here soon. Josh

Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | Gander Mt Guide - 6/9/2004 9:57 AM Lobi, Did you catch that fish down in Key West??? That thing looks like a salt water critter. That is the Great Lakes Muskie. The younger ones have more spots. They are only in Lake St Clair, Indian River (Michigan), and the St Lawrence River to my knowledge. Here is a smaller one with bright colors.. Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | That's not fair Slamr.. how can we compete with kids in the picture. It is like a politician kissing a baby. Gander Mt.. mostly trolling on St Clair. It is a 250,000 acre, 10 ft average depth, little structure, crazy waves lake. Plenty of skis get caught casting but trolling covers so much more water. I much prefer feeling the strike on a cast but trolling just puts more fish up to the boat. I'm happy to report that even though there are tons of people targeting Muskie and incidental catches from bass and walleye fisherman that the CPR rate is extremly high to the best of my knowledge. I'm sure it happens but I'm not aware of or heard of any being kept this year. Plenty of 50+ inch and 30+ pound fish are caught each year. A few strongly believe a 40 pounder will be caught this year. It is an awesome fishery. Come on over and give it a shot. The walleye, smallmouth, largemouth and perch fisherman also couldn't be happier than to be out on this lake. Lots of all of the above. If anyone plans on making a trip to Lake St Clair feel free to give me a shout. It is a big lake and I can narrow it down for you.
