I have found fishing tournaments, you need 2 days to prefish and 1 or 2 days for the Tourney.

Just by telling them you paid money to go fishing seems to loosen up the heat a bit!

Make sure that she gets a job with different hours than you have. Then you can go when you want, as she is at the office. Works great for me.

Luckily, my wife (of only a month or so) likes to musky fish, so all I have to do is ask if she wants to go.

Good luck.
I will try to find the post that I started before I got married. There were some great tips from da boys in der.

Read this for more tips.

I've found that tournaments are the way to go. It gives you exact dates to fish, pre-fish, reasons to buy gear AND can't be trumphed by the last min. invites.

If I don't book exact dates weeks in advance, my wife will fill up the time with something - guaranteed.

Everytime I think of getting it back, I remember I CANT!!! #*^@it, I really needed that hacksaw to modify a 10" Jake yesterday too.

Give them a special credit card that is only to be used when you are fishing, they'll push you out the door (ri$k factor "HIGH")
Make sure you fish a lot when you are dating them and can do no wrong, kinda paves the way for later (risk factor "Medium")
Do like Cory and you have it made but be sure to arrange for some time with just Da Guys. (risk factor "Low")

You can always fish all nite while she is sleeping, then work all day of course.

This works for me: As the alarm goes off at 6 Saturday morning:
"Honey, sex or should I go fishing?"
"Don't forget your jacket!"

Here is what I have done. Establish TRADITIONS.

The real key is doing this BEFORE you get married. Those traditions are sacred. However, if you are clever enough... it is possible to establish traditions with your buddies after marriage.

A few traditions for me are: opening day, trip to Canada, and several "annual weekends with friends".

Also, don't be fooled by girlfriends and fiance's who PRETEND to like fishing. Once you sign the contract, they no longer want to fish with you for 14 hours in a steady rain (heh heh). I have several photos similar to CPainter's above... and times change. Especially when you add KIDS to the equation....

Marry a Muskie fishing nut. Sue loves to fish, so that one is easy. I won't get into won't discuss the kitchen wall in to the living room, however.

jlong, you are correct about established traditions.

I dated my wife 7 year before she snagged me.

Never give up what you love to make your partner happy.

Bend but don't break !!!

I have been married for over 15 year and fish more than ever, it help that the kids love to fish.

Mikie, I will save that one for the day I have trouble getting out. Good one.

Take away what a man/woman loves and they become bitter after marrage!!!

Let them do what they love to do and they become you partner in life !!!

Jonesi, My wife has a brother that LOVES to musky fish. Not sure if your particular about the gender part.
You would have a partner for life.

You just have to fight over who wears the wig. lol

Bfitzel, if you have to wonder about an excuse, you have already lost the battle. She should support your desire to fish just as you should support her desires(had to put that there so I did not sound so shovanistic). Not that you are in my boat but when I was married I lived 10 minutes from 30 lakes and never had a boat on any of them untill after I was divorced.

I am divorced now and that certainly provides me many more opportunities to musky fish, but my ex learned to love musky fishing with me and my friends. Whomever I marry next will have to put up with my obsessive, compulsive disorder regarding musky fishing!

Babes in the boat are not a bad thing, so what if they don't musky fish...They can tan, read, sleep, fish for panfish, fish for bass, etc., etc., etc.

Just had our 5 year anniv. I now also am the proud father of my 15 month old son Aiden, have already been threatened no baby in the boat til he's at least 2-3. well we can work on that!
True I don
t get out in the field or on the boat as much but man when my boy points at pics of me with fish
he gets so amped and proudly proclaims SHISH,that does beat the boattime out by far.
Well anyways Iv'e come up with a plan...it's called super early mornings preceded by late nights and the occasional nap in the boat. where theres a will there is a way! Living pretty close to a lot of good lakes doesn't hurt either. She will learn to deal if the love is true man, trust me on that one. Just remember to reciprocate and let that good woman do her thing at leisure and you will be in good shape. My wife certainly loves the icfishing bounty I bring home and that does get me some points that roll over til season. You'll come up with a plan of your own,I have faith!
