Posts: 41 | Just wondering for the masses, what is your favorite thing about muskie fishing? Is it the being outside, catching big fish, figuring out patters, etc? BB

Just being out in the beauty of LOTW for 4 months per year is all I could ask for. It's a good thing we don't always get what we deserve in life.

| Watching peeps freak when they miss a fish; cuss, break stuff, throw stuff, slam stuff, ram stuff...you get the picture...hearing the rumble of a tummy that has gone too long w/out food 'cause the dummy/dummies forgot their lunch; watching their eyes pop and the beads of sweat on their foreheads as I slowly and seductively unwrap a Pay Day...the gentle hiss of an ice cold Coke Cola as it's being opened...your buddy swallowing hard, yet afraid to ask for a taste due to deep inherent mammalian pride...the look on his face when you open up your ditty bag to reveal a verital smorgasbord of pogy bait snacks...yes there are many reasons, but these are a few of me favorite things... | |||

Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | The Hunt! Top preditor on land takes to the water to tackle the highest ranking beast the lake can offer. I LOVE spending other peoples money, nothing better than taking a bass guy out and watching him cpr his first ski, knowing he is hooked and what it is going to cost him I just plain love fishing. Good post BB. You make us think once in a while instead of just talkin' the technical stuff. Edited by lobi 4/23/2004 10:09 PM

| The unbridled optimism that wells up when making the next plan or going to the next spot, and......The Bite. Hooking landing etc, all are the anti climax. | |||

Posts: 20281 Location: oswego, il | I love almost all of it. Catching fish, fishing for them, meeting new people, m.i., musky shows, chatting with my musky buddies on the internet, musky web sites, ebay, making lures, swap meets and the parties that follow along with helping others. The only two things I don't care for would be the hayward taliban and the 3.5-4 hour drive each way through boring indiana and chicago's south side each weekend.

| I think everyone who posted previously has hit at least a part of the nail on the head. It is the whole thing. The hunt, the catch, the comraderie (sp), the peace, the fun, plus a ton more. | |||

| My favorite part of musky fishing isn't the fishing at all. It's the half of bottle Windsor I drink on the way there. Afterwards, my second favorite part, loosing all reasoning in beauty in women. My third favorite part, is taking pictures of my co anglers fish because in fact, I can't catch them myself. I wish I knew how to wiggle my worm. | |||

Posts: 724 Location: Southern W.Va. | The sight of a 40+"er, 6" behind your bait. The hunt for that 50"er and knowing that you may never see her but she's there, that much your sure of . Nothing is tougher than trying to figure of new water. I never knew it could be this much fun and still be this hard. These are a few of the things that keeps me after these fish and I hope that when the Man calls me, I'll go still hunting those crazy, dumb, smart, mystical muskys. I've been fortunate enough to visit the lands of great musky fishing, from Cave Run, to LOTW, to the small rivers and creeks here in W.Va. and I can honestly say that I'm a lucky man. I've met many friends and saw a few muskys and that's what keeps me going. Just my thoughts , Mauser

| My favorite part of musky fishing is when I have a plan or go to a "new" spot because I know they will be there. Then it happens... a discolored shadow keeping pace with my lure, Its a Musky! It slowly suspends, it didn't go far. I figure 8 many times.. then grab another pole with a throw back lure. About mid retrieve the flash, water erupts, I know its a good hook set. Fumble around a bit, get it into the net. While unhooking I realize I'm on a solo trip so no good pictures will be had. Take the measurement, look around a bit, add 6 or 8 inches... hold it steady in the water till it swims off. Priceless! Edited by esox-dan 4/25/2004 7:40 PM | |||

Posts: 87 Location: Wauwatosa, WI | The first hit and then those big head shakes, maybe a jump and a run. There is nothing like musky fishing. Also the excitment in the boat when you have one on, the trash talk when your netperson misses the landing, and the relief when it's landed. Everthing..... Bob Ryan

Location: Eau Claire,WI | My favorite part of muskie fishing is when the pain goes away after fishing for them! Sorry, had to say it... I like the challenge of the sport, throwing lures bigger than the fish most people catch, and the fact that muskies are moodier than most people. For me, catching a fish is an added bonus,I just like to fish and muskies are my favorite.

| The cost is high, the time spent is usually long but the personal satisfaction/reward is 10 fold of any other species i can think of. | |||

Posts: 11 | Being in the boat on a foggy morning and knowing that somewhere under me is a Muskie of a lifetime and if I do the right thing that fish will hit my bait. Even if it doesn't it is just great to be there with the chance to get that big fish. The water and the woods are my Church. The morning is better if I hear the sound of a Loon. What a feeling. Posts: 75 Location: ft wayne, IN | It's gotta be the muskie chicks! No you say? Alright it's the thrill of the chase, the wisdom of the beast, the rush of a big fattie right behind your lure crushing it at boatside and bending your rod clear under the boat; it's the fat hog on Lac Seul that you've been chasing all week long to no avail despite multiple blow ups and chases to the boat only to finally absolutely explode on the bait as soon as it hits the water and take three or four acrobatic spins and multiple out of water head shakes before you wrestle her to your boat late Friday afternoon on the fourth of July just before you decide to return home; it's that look they give you when they follow you to the boat and just stop and stare; it's that mound of water they're pushin' before they inhale your topper and explode out of the water; sometimes it's just their attitude.....there's no fish like it on the face of the earth!! Location: Athens, Ohio | MuskieChicks? You mean there are groupies in this sport, where? I mean, I see lots of guys hanging around the docks, I must be fishin the wrong waters! I like it because "almost counts", and I do a lot of almost. Get to meet some really fine, cool people and I think muskie fishermen have the neatest toys of all. m
