| I've developed a bit of an addiction to glide baits. I don't know why, but the craftsmanship is always awesome to see and using them is fun for me. My question: are there are lesser known/smaller glide makers that you like/recommend? What I have so far:
1. Tap dancer
2. Beauzooka
3. Phantom soft tail
4. Hot tail
If it's in the musky shop, I know it's out there and am already working on it. What I'm after is those small batch makers. |

Location: Brighton CO. | Three of the four Amma Bamma's I have been retired for collection value going back to 1989. (date on lure) I've caught Muskies and Muskie sized Pike on my Cobb's Crazy Shad's. In fact this fall I'll be fishing with a guide/lure manufacture and I have a couple on need of repair over the winter. I'll run it by him this fall. |

| Check out Elk River Glides. Really quality baits, and one of the few folks who make a thru-wire glidebait. If you can't get yourself any I have a couple I might be willing to part with. |

Location: oswego, il | Modivator by musky fix. I also have a musky treats that is gold. I have over 100 gliders of various brands. The best ones I have found turn around and shoot quickly to a pause. Roll is also a good action while it does and on the pause. Some gliders move too slow even expensive ones and I find less action on them vs the ones I can move as a search bait or get to dart quickly around cover. |

| A bait that has been discontinued for a very long time is the Bagley's b flat shiner. You might be able to find some at swap meets, garage or estate sales, or maybe ebay. I still have one but not willing to let it go. Don't know if Rapala is still making the gliding rap.Still have a couple of those in my box and they produce fish. Kdawg |

Location: Brighton CO. | Bagley B-Flat both sizes work, large and small. (caught my first Colorado Pike on the small sized B-flat) I have a lure I bought at R&H called a Dolphin Glider that is 6" long and another lure with looks just like it 8" Ace Flipper, never caught Muskie on them but I've been Muskie fishing in Canada and had days where you could not even catch a Pike and put them on next thing you know at least the Pike would going. I caught so many fish Dolphin Glider I had to repaint it. I guess it a copy of a English lure called "the Dolphin" The Dolphin and Ace don't glide back and forth they just shimmie like a twitchbait without the lip. |

Location: midwest | Lots of really good gliders made custom years ago that are no longer made. Bikini baits Beer Belly and Turmoil, Beaver Perka's, Muskie Treats and older wood Slammer Drop Belly gliders are a few favorites that have been chewed. |

| I rarely throw glide baits anymore, but threw them a ton 98-2005 ish.. As mentioned most of the best are old wood models..the ole wood Phantom was a go to, also still have a few old wood Magic Makers that were chewed on by dozens of fish...you might check the buy/ sell regularly to grab some old wood models. |

Seriously, I suggest getting a couple good ones in 6, 7, 8 inch sizes and learn how to work them real good. I've caught a 27 inch muskie on a Hang Ten Manta, and a 48 inch muskie on a 6 inch Treats. Learn how to make the baits dance, both in rhythmic walk the dawg and erratic actions. Have fun with them, to me they are more enjoyable than idiot baits that you throw out and they come back to you the same way time after time. m |

| I really enjoy them and dislike bucktails. Bucktails obviously catch a TON of fish, but I like the mental exercise of making a glide work. I need work on setting a glide hook more effectively. |

Location: oswego, il | I also catch fish on the hellhound. I like the squirley hellhound. I can get it to shoot with a little up and down and when I pause it some belly roll while it sinks. I do change the hooks to a 3/0 short shank mustad the 774's tangle and I get a better hookup with the mustad. The mustad also helps me over the weeds. Not an expensive glider and works better than some of the fancy expensive ones. 6" soft tail phantom is another good choice. If you can find a power probe that's another good one. Find a deal on a Hughes River and that's a great glider all models.
I am apprehensive about spending big bucks on a glider. The only one I bought is so slow it belongs on a short bus. I won't use it. |

Location: Athens, Ohio | Hook setting has also been my challenge with these baits. You're doing a slack line action to get the bait to dance and that's when the fish strikes and your rod has to change position in a hurry. Often, when the fish chomps down it will instantly know that it hit something hard like wood or plastic and not fleshy like fish. The mouth will open as fast as it closed, if the hook isn't in a jaw there is trouble for you.
Also, the way fish often hit these baits, they will crush the head then open their mouth to change the position of the fish to swallow it. Another opportunity for the bait to come out. m |

| The last time I hooked up on a glide, I felt resistance as I reeled in a bit of slack. The hook set was.... I bet it looked bizarre. Maybe seizure-esque? Looking like a rickroll if the person doing it was intoxicated and had vertigo? |
