Posts: 229 | This is an easy one for me. Though there are many great musky fisherman on this board I would go with either KidDerringer or Guideman up on Lake Vermilion. Sure there may be other guides other great waters, but Lake Vermilion is a lake I want to learn and start fishing on a regular yearly basis. Can't think of any better guys to learn Vermilion from. Posts: 7123 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Real easy for me also: my grandfather passed away a number for years before I was born, I would love to have had the opportunity to take him and my father. Would love to be able to hear the stories about when he went up to Vilas County and Hayward back when wooden boats were the only way to go, and the trip from chicago to there took 2 days or you had to go by train.

Posts: 827 Location: Minneapolis,Minnesota | Being that I mainly fish north metro lakes and want to learn Tonka better I would have to go with Treats or Cady. Plus I want to fish the Cass area more this season.

Posts: 1185 Location: Wishin I Was Fishin' | I posted JLong, I have fished with him and he is the best stick I know. Just casting though, he doesn't like livebait. Tony Rizzo is a close second, but he is a bit opinionated. By the way, I have shared the boat with many good sticks.

Posts: 1916 Location: Greenfield, WI | No doubt about it, Steve Worrall. It would be an enjoyable day from every aspect. An added problem would be carrying enough ice to keep the swelling down from both our faces cramping up from laughing!

Posts: 105 Location: Kawartha Lakes, Ontario | Mr. Worrall, I would love to compare and discuss "creature" tactics out on the water with you. Being a "creature" enthusiast myself, I would be very interested to see your techniques and compare them to my own. Edited by crazycanuck 1/27/2004 1:56 PM

Posts: 212 Location: Madison, WI | For all around techniques, Herbie from Andy Myers Lodge would be THE MAN. From Live bait to the bulldawg and with everything in between his ears, he would know how to approach any water at any time during the year.

Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | I would pick Dick Pearson. After reading his book for about the 7th time I would love to be able to see him pick a lake apart in person.

I would have to agree with Norm on Dick Pearson, I love that book too! I would love another chance to share the same boat space with Slamr too, in his new boat with a charged battery, and I'll have better coffee!

| Dick Pearson...I have been lucky enough to fish with him before and I have learned so much from him. I can't wait until his video comes out. He will be filming it most of this season! | |||

Posts: 2037 Location: lansing, il | steve herbeck, the guy has forgotten more than ill ever know about musky fishing. with that said though oneidaesox is also on top of my list for his agressive nature in trying to put fish in the boat, in the worst of conditions and his teaching abilitys!!!! i see john becoming a major force in the future of musky fishing in the coming years.

Posts: 20281 Location: oswego, il | I multi-voted for Kid and guideman, worrall, treats/cady and dick pearson. If they cannot get you on fish on your home lake, it don't have muskies in it. Edited by ToddM 1/27/2004 9:49 PM

| Boy, fishing with Pearson would be great. I'd do it just to listen to his hunting stories, watching him disect a lake would be an added bonus. The question mentioned casting/livebait, and with livebait in the mix I think I'd have to consider Herbie. I guess a coin toss would be in order. J.Sloan | |||

Posts: 1023 Location: Lafayette, IN | Since I love Lake Vermilion I'd pick Guideman (aka Ace). I spent a half day with him last year and he delivers the goods. We didn't catch any 'skis that morning but what he told me about locations and seasonal patterns on Big V were observed to the n'th degree all week. A real fisherman's guide IMHO. Sworrall would also be a close second simply because he's been so helpful to this fledgling muskyphile for the last year and a half. A true class act! He's always got a nice boat too! (heh heh!)

Posts: 1916 Location: Greenfield, WI | Sue Worrall is only one cast away from a 40 lber.! Bringing her onto my home water would focus the saying of "it is sometimes better to be lucky than good!". In this case it would both, plus I could "extract" Steve Worrall's deepest darkest muskie fishing secrets!

Posts: 2754 Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Given the context of the question, I don't fish muskies w/live bait. So really it comes down to presentations w/ different lures- There's some awesome picks here. Mr Worral is a obvious good pick, as is Dick Pearson, Doug Johnson, Herbie, & the rest of the guides. But then I thought about the question. J. Long is excellent, as is the infamous ToddM. But there is a real sleeper muskie fisherman on this board- he is an true muskie addict and literally has a garage full of lures - I had the pleasure of sharing a cabin with him at the MF 2002 Cass Lake outing. He's extremely knowlegable-shares information readilly and is a really nice guy. So if I wanted some one to "show me the ropes" of casting lures & working different lures, I'd pick Paul Lovvik a.k.a. Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I have fished with many of the selections here, but would choose Herbie and Doug johnson if I could entice them to my local waters, which will never happen.

Posts: 5874 | I added the Extreme One. First, because my home water is his home water! LOL More than that, he is a good stick, can study a map of a new lake, and figure out a pattern.

Posts: 1936 Location: Eau Claire, WI | Well some of these guys I've fished with, some are friends... But if I could choose one (damn that's hard) to spend a day with in hopes of learning something I would have to say Doug Johnson or Dick Pearson, and Herbie and...damn Frank; Tought to pick just one. Everyone has something to offer.... Heck I'de love to come out east and check out your waters as well. And I don't think we'll get any argument about Laura and Sue being better looking than any of us others listed...LOL Guess my love of upper MN and Canadian waters is why I chose who I did.
