Posts: 1516 | Has anyone that had a Canadian trip cancelled requested a refund of deposit or did you roll it to next year. Those that did request a refund did u get a refund?

Posts: 4269 Location: Ashland WI | I was able to roll to next year. I didn't even ask about a refund. Wasn't interested knowing the guide was likely having difficulties with work as it was.

Posts: 213 | I had a relatively large deposit on my June trip. I told them to keep $300 (unclear if we would be back in 2021) and refund the balance which they did. The Sept trip we just rolled over. Note; my bank charged a $35 fee to process a Canadian Check which then took 14 days to clear.

Posts: 925 | Rolled to next year. Hoping deposits helps them survive to next year. If we lose the $1000 bucks oh well. At least we felt it may help them get if that’s what most people did.

Posts: 76 | I took a different approach. In the middle of the closed border I booked a couple of October days with an independent Canadian guide to help him out this year. Paid my trip in full. My trip will roll over to next year. I had little hope of fishing with him this year but just wanted to help. I have never fished with him but had meet him at a lodge. I wasn’t his client but he took the time to share some recent patterns to help with me with my current trip. First class individual!

Posts: 1220 | Boy oh boy, now I really feel like an great person. It would seem I’m the only person out there who took a refund. Yeah, in my case it was the University of Esox, and not a Canada resort, but when offered, I said, “Yeah, send the money.” They did. My only defense is a real question of my ability to attend next year, or even get near a musky anywhere for that matter. I will say, however, now that my spot is open, that school is the single best musky experience I have ever had, already done it three times. Hat’s off to those who let the cash ride, shame on me!

Posts: 1516 | Don’t beat yourself up Junkman. I’m in a similar situation about next year and due to health concerns I inquired about a refund. No response from the camp.

Posts: 34 | Rolled over to next year. I was all set to go to LOTW University of Esox musky school last year, but I got sick and had to cancel. I rolled my 2019 deposit to 2020, and now I have rolled it again to 2021. I sure want to go catch a Canadian musky in 2021! Edited by 60503 9/17/2020 9:23 AM

Posts: 35 | We had 6 of us booked on Cedar Lake, and were told (a couple months ago), there would be no refunds (no problem), but also NO rolling over of deposits to 2021. Search around, you'll find out who that was. Needless to say ... we're booked elsewhere for 2021.

Posts: 925 | I’m guessing a lot of resort owners are just trying to scrape by and pay their bills with deposits from this year. Leaving no money left for refunds. I’ve been fortunate to still have my normal income during the VID. So if my deposit helps the resort keep hanging on I’m fine with it. If they go out of business and my deposit is lost I have peace knowing I tried helping someone out during tough times. Midge

Posts: 925 | But offering no refund or rollover? That’s not good for business. You can kiss all your repeat customers goodbye. Which means they probably will be out of business next summer anyways.

Posts: 1023 | You should name that cedar lake resort - they don’t deserve our business.

They should work with you to make it right and get your deposit back. After all, you are their customer and they want to keep your business too. It’s worth a try, good luck!

Posts: 1783 | Landry - 9/18/2020 9:51 PM You should name that cedar lake resort - they don’t deserve our business. Anybody who has been on any fishing sites on the web in the last two months knows who it is. It's a business choice they made, same as the business choice each of us makes when we book a trip. Posting their name just gives them more free publicity.

Posts: 1516 | It appears a vaccine will be available by year end, maybe sooner. If the new administration lives up to 1/2 their promises the vaccine should be available to the masses by March or April.

Posts: 109 | It is unlikely there will be a meaningful number of people vaccinated by spring given the shear number of vaccines needed and their unique distribution challenges such as needing to be stored below -70 degrees. Additionally, the vaccine requires a series of doses (2) over 3 weeks...and the effectiveness assumes that 70% or more of the population receive it, which is far above the percentage that say they will receive it. Now, that being said, I suspect that regardless of the progress, the boarder will be opened by summer given the more important advancements in therapeutics and the economic cost of keeping it closed for longer than that.

If the new administration lives up to 1/2 their promises the vaccine should be available to the masses by March or April. This is a very optimistic view. I work in this field and would say for the average American large-scale availability will be end of 2021 at the earliest, but most likely early 2022. Vaccines will likely be available for health care workers and high-risk individuals started early/mid 2021. This can change, I'm just giving a breakdown of what I see.

I asked my financial advisor to recommend stock in companies that make freezers that can maintain temp of minus 103 F, since most doctors and pharmacies don't have them and that is what the vaccine needs to be held at. No response yet

Have seen this and read a couple other stories abouts how a vaccine is tested. Really admire the scientists involved. The kind of painstaking work that goes into development and testing is so daunting.
