Posts: 526 | Tranx 400. I’ve had a couple Lexa 400s blow up after less than a year’s worth of use. All 3 of my Tranx 400s are still going strong after a couple years with minimal maintenance. Just my opinion...

there is 3 lexa model which one are you talking about? btw i guess the damage is way more heavier when you claim that your reel explode than when you told the exact story.

Posts: 983 | tranx 400 hard to beat if you want to spend the money. I have abu beasts 13 fishing A3 both models couple lexahds couple lexa wins and revo toro S..Gotta say the tranx is by far the smoothest reel and casts a mile..

Posts: 2327 Location: Chisholm, MN | Tranx 400 is actually pretty cheap and is the best Muskie reel I’ve seen. The beast is good, but more expensive. I never did try a Lexa HD because my last lexa broke. Could be good but you cannot go wrong with the tranx.

Posts: 72 | Reading this is kinda funny....best real for the money is also the most expensive? I would imagine just like everything else at some point you are paying more for very little. Does anyone on here try any budget reals? Max toro? Lews 300? Quantum 300's? Okumas? and etc.....

Posts: 61 | I don't see anyone mention the Abu Garcia Revo Toro S. I've had mine for 3 years now and the thing still performs like new. I know it's been on the market for few years now but in my opinion you can't beat the price vs reliability and overall performance of this reel. Even had it engage mid cast twice, probably due to user error or because it has a power handle, anyhow it still performs flawlessly. You can get them on Ebay, either right or left handed(size 60), for $150. As far as Tranx 400 goes, I can't comment on that since never owned or used one, but the lowest I could find (EBay) was $230 which is a quite significant difference. As far as Lexa goes I would stay away. I have a Lexa 300 and used it as a back up reel. After throwing double 9's twice for a day, had to use it since on vacation and 2 other reels that I own were used by my brother and father, it started to feel and sound like a coffee grinder. Not sure if 400 size has the same internals but if it does I would recommend something else, especially if you don't want to be limited to smaller size baits. Used the same dBl 9's with Abu several times without any issues. Lexa was in a power 5:1 model. Not sure about the HD but the gear ratio of 7:1 seems to me a bit to fast especially for hard pulling bucktails. The only other recommendation would be Okuma Komodo which is in a similar price range than Revo Toro S. Lots of good reviews on this website. The only thing holding me back from buying it is the size. The 300 size seems to be a little small and 400 is huge comparing it to Abu or Shimano of the same size or at least the numbers would suggest.

Posts: 760 | Fyi, Abu Garcia still has the Revo Toro S on sale for $125.00! I believe they are discontinued for '20 so I think they are on close out. Kdawg

Posts: 2327 Location: Chisholm, MN | You may be right about the Revo S. Best reel for the cost. I have one and it is tough but I do not like the gear ratio. Way too slow for my style of fishing. It’s just a back up reel that sits on a compartment in the boat. But it works good if I need it.

ECIRANDYPRICE - 12/13/2019 4:17 PM the hd is the one that will be more prompt to broken if you use d10.do not use a 300, you are not fishing for bass. the cc is a good one but the model before that is no more made was as tuff as a tranx 500The Tranx I know is a good reel but a little more $$ than I was wanting to spend. I have been looking at the Lexa HD but wasn't sure if they were good.

Posts: 489 Location: Northern Illinois | My take on low profile muskie reels: I have a Lexa 300 HD high speed I use for small baits on a 7'11" LE Heavy (actually bass rod). Love this but after casting for a few days I noticed a subtle vibration similar to a shaft spinning inside the race. It bugs me but I don't seem to lose distance. I have a Toro S I use on a sling blade that is flawless. Great crank bait combo, med bucktails, small rubber. I have Tranx 400 high speed I use on a Long Ranger great combo I use most of the time - Dbl 8's, spinnerbaits, topwater. And I have Tranx 400A I use on a Nasty for Dbl 10's and rubber. The reel broke down (levelwind) within the first month but has been good since I got it back. For the money the Toro S is tops for OP. The Tranx 400's are every bit as good or better but more money. I don't have experience with Komodos. Intended use may be limiting factor.

A less expensive, and different gear ratio version of the Beast 40 that came out last year. Ive used the Beast 40 this last season, and like it A LOT. Used it for really small baits to ones up to 4-5 oz. Great reel. May have to pick up an X version for this next season to see how they are.
