Also in the Rhinelander area. This afternoon, looking out toward the frozen lake the wind was gusting so hard the plastic owl hanging from the canopy frame on my boat lift swung all the way around the frame, complete 360. Third winter in the same spot, that never happened before. Weather service said at the time the gusts were upper 40s. I hope the service crews out restoring power stay safe tonight.

Getting ready to go out and blow the snow out of my drive way, my wife's face book popped with a message that four years ago my son and I put our dock in.

Posts: 1279 | Was supposed to head to the UP this morning, to do a little walleye fishing on a Green Bay tributary. Got a little over 8 inches and it's snowing pretty good again right now. Called my buddy last night to push back my visit a few days and the wind was gusting up to 66 while I was on the phone with him. At least it wasn't the 15.8 inches we got on this same week last year. Should be a little nicer by Thursday when I take may trek across Wisconsin on 8.

Talked to my sister in Alaska a few days ago. They have had a very mild winter and she started seeing robins almost a month ago. When they moved off grid four years ago, they were thinking of buying a snow machine but are glad they didn't. Virtually no snow at sea level where they live the last three years. But then, according to a story I read a couple weeks ago, Alaska as a whole is warming 2 to 3 time faster than the lower 48 and Barrow, up above the artic circle has seen its average annual temperature rise 11 degrees over the last 50 years. And it may get worse quick. The perma frost is melting rapidly and that will release a lot of carbon into the atmosphere.

Posts: 8782 | According to the people who study this stuff, C02 stays in the atmosphere anywhere from 80 - 200 years. I have to admit, that's a scary prospect. But then humanity is much better equipped to deal with a warmer climate than a colder climate. Beats the hell out of an ice age.

Conservation Guy - 4/12/2019 2:27 PM That might be the case for some of us, but not for the bulk of folks in this country that live within a couple feet of sea level. Yes, there are several artic villages that have to be abandoned. Sea level there is already to the point they are not livable. When we were in the Fairbanks area last year, guy was telling me that people out in the "bush" were having issues because they had built on perma frost and with it melting, their buildings were leaning and sinking. Apparently they would drive pilings down into the perma frost and that served as a foundation but now the pilings are sinking. Heck of a mess. New York City is going to face increase risk from storms as the sea level rises. They are talking seriously about storm gates to block the river in event of major storms.

Posts: 2015 | quit studying this bs!!! How many trillions yess trillions of dollars are governments going to waste on this crap..Of course there is climate change,.. many huge changes Over the past several 100 million years, glad we had global warming a few times in the earths history, carved out some cool things .. the volcanos created some cool islands..earth is billions of years old... gonna be here millions of years after we are gone...what the hell are these “climate change “ experts really studying and furthermore what’s it going to change? Waste of money!!hell we can feed the entire planet with the amount of money wasted on studying this crap the last 10 years. Global warming sounds good, bring it on Edited by IAJustin 4/12/2019 9:33 PM

Posts: 109 | ????trillions? The government’s own numbers show a total of under $12 billion in 2014, and that was for research AND remediation of climate effects. If you want to talk about costs, talk to insurers and those living in Florida who have to include climate change response dollars into their state budget. We can ignore the pace of change or the change itself as much as we want but we are all paying for it and will be paying far more for it in the future. For those of us with children they will be facing the bulk of this burden.

Posts: 2015 | Yes globally trillions... “Worldwide the numbers are gargantuan. Five years ago, a leftist group called the Climate Policy Initiative issued a study which found that “Global investment in climate change” reached $359 billion that year. Then to give you a sense of how money-hungry these planet-saviors are, the CPI moaned that this spending “falls far short of what’s needed” a number estimated at $5 trillion. For $5 trillion we could feed everyone on the planet, end malaria, and provide clean water and reliable electricity to every remote village in Africa. And we would probably have enough money left over to find a cure for cancer and Alzheimers.” Follow the money.. it’s big business... and it’s a complete joke!!!

Posts: 109 | You cannot just grab quotes from commentaries...this is the problem with the scientific debates in this country....especially quotes from Stephen Moore, who has a pretty strong history of not being all that accurate....and who has significant skeptics even on the right.

Posts: 2015 | What’s not accurate? Go to CPI’s website,.. 1.8 trillion 2015-2018 globally...hmm..could we get a do over please!?? I vote to use the money for something else! Planet is gonna change with or without humans on it, hilarious we think we are going to stop a 50,000 year old glacier from melting if we only can fund another 500 billion next year???
