I didn't realize I have a problem, until I was putting away for the season. In my head hard for me to cram a though other than fishing or hunting. I'm not my 100% of the time but I'm mostly musky. Does anyone else struggle like this?

That's nothing. I have over 750 hanging in the garage. You are still a small storm in the Atlantic that might get some rotation and then maybe make landfall.

Looking at this is the exact same feeling as seeing "6 or more" as the highest option for alcoholic drinks consumed weekly when filling out paperwork at the doctor. That's IT? Maybe I really do have a problem....

I have sold off hundreds of lures in the last few years one guy took lures in trade for 2 new Scotty electric downriggers. Another guy came to the basement and left me with $700. A couple of years ago I got 2 young guys started muskie fishing and picked out and gave 25 lures for each telling them that's all you will ever need. You know how long that lasted. The last 3 winters I have taken every thing that didn't get wet to a used tackle sale selling off about half each year. I want to get it down to the 24 lures I have set aside that are my A team 10 casting 14 trolling. At 75 how many lures can I use in a 12 hour day. I always tell myself that most came off raffle tables and many many did. I know that many others were purchased in moments of winter weakness.

Ungh. You, my friend, are very early in the disease. When you need to add a room onto the house, just for musky stuff, then you will probably be at the level of most of us. For me? Started gradually. Then I needed 2 of everything, you know, because I was going to keep musky lures/rods/reels separate. Main house gear, cottage gear.
Nope. They take up one room much to my wife's dismay. 10 tubs full of gear. Lures hanging on the wall. A boat full of lures. More lures in the garage. Rods and reels everywhere.
I'm weeding through stuff now to have a Sportsman's Sale in April. I really don't need 12 rods that are 8.5 foot plus in length.

The problem with musky fishing, for me, is that it isn't quantity over quality. It is quality and quantity. That and makes a huge difference.

I agree your way out of the problem territory you don't know how sick it can really get. Get out now. You could easily have 10x that amount even 50-100x that amount honestly Im sure some disturbing pictures are yet to come...LOL

I'm not down to 24, but there is wisdom here.

Thats childs play. Stack Lakewood boxes up next to the shelves and fill them up, then we can talk about a problem.

It looks like you're about 100+ bucktails short of having anything remotely close to a problem...never mind the apparent lack of topwater baits in the pictures. Actually you do have a problem, you don't have enough baits yet...

As the others have said. You don't have a problem at all. When you reach 1000+ lures, I would start to worry.

How many lures do you take in the boat and how many do you actually use.
If your not catching fish I think it's more likely the wrong place or time rather than the wrong lure or colour.

Anywhere from one on a good day to probably a dozen on a really bad day. Average is probably 5.

How many do I own? Well...

Pretty much 3 to 5 baits used/outing. My experience has shown that the bait used is as critical as the spot fished. Been in the boat with buddies that throw everything under the sun, I stick with my 3 to 5 and usually do better. However I only fish a couple of different lakes and could fish them w/o electronics I know them so well.
Got a giant bin full of the ones that don't work, someone said they'd work (but didn't), etc. Most of these I should sell, all they do is gather dust. Lots of wasted $ but live and learn.

These are the baits I hold in reserve, there are probably 150 or so more in the boat. I usually run the same handful, every trip. John

I've been fishing muskies for a little over a decade and I've never understood the need for a huge collection of baits. I probably have about 100 casting and trolling baits total or less at any given time because I will sell or trade things that I know I won't be using again. Last year I noticed I started accumulating more than I'd like and ended up selling about 50 baits over the winter.

Now, this is a bit different for the guys that travel to a lot of different waters and need different things, but my time is almost exclusively on two lakes that typically don't need specific patterns or baits.

I used to collect Musky lure that I don't use. I switched to something that ages better, collecting gold. no dry rot, no atomized feathers, no rust, no cracked epoxy, never irrelevant due to new technology advances, hold value over time, wife likes more than Dbl-10s too.

Plus I don't expect to need rotator cuff surgery and my kids will fight over it when I die instead of selling it 2cents on the dollar.

Yea, I spent less days freezing my butt off in the boat for a couple Internet "nice fish!" and outtaboys, life is hard. No frustration over another boat on my spot, fish aren't moving, worries over native spearing in Wisc. - ha ha I don't care!

Ever been in a store and your wife says..............."you don't need another fishing lure."

If you have struggled for a reply try this one.............."I didn't NEED a wife either."
