Going to crow lake in Sept. Does anyone make a reliable map for this lake that marks out the hazards?

I have only been there once in a boat and I had good luck, still have my lower unit and prop, using the map from Muskie Bay Resort.

Thorne Bros had one a while back. Don’t think anyone has one yet with depths, though. Can’t wait to hear how it goes. I’ve been there several times in July and would like to go later one of these years.

I called thrones and they don't have one. Going to be running auto chart up there alot. I tried going on Google earth to spot humps and transfer to my graph but half the lake is covered in ice.

http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/draw/
Draw tracks around the outline of reefs or points (hint: world aerial)
Export to .gpx
Upload & convert in HumminbirdPC
Transfer to SD card
Upload to Humminbird unit
Edit tracks to color and style you want

That's the method I use and there is probably a better/faster/more efficient way of doing it.

You can find a good topographical paper map at Helliar's resort in Nestor Falls on the way in, or if you are staying at Muskie Bay Paul usually has a few of them in stock. They are pretty accurate but there are some things that are not on there. Don't rely on Navionics for the western half that is on the chip, the reef accuracy is way off. Lots of humps and bumps out there just be careful and go slow when you are in doubt. September Muskies can be difficult out there.

There's not really a hydrographic map, in the truest sense of the word.

The best map for showing water depth on Crow / Kakagi is the map that is produced by Red Lake Digital Media, and distributed by Alex Wilson Coldstream Ltd.

The respective websites are:

www.redlakedigital.com

and

www.awcoldstream.com

As far as topographic maps, those are the maps of the National Topographic System of Canada.

Map numbers for Crow Lake are as follows:

Map # 52 F/4: Kakaki - covers the southern portion and eastern portion of Crow. (85% of the lake, approximately, I'm guessing)

Map # 52 F/5: Caviar Lake - covers Emm Bay and the northwest corner of Crow (about 15% of the lake).

In terms of the AW Coldstream map (the "hydrographic" map), it is not nearly as detailed as a typical LOTW navigation chart would be, but it is a decent start. The deeper water is shown in a darker shade of blue than the shallow water. Shallow reefs are shown in a white or very light blue color. So it gives you a general idea of hazardous reefs, but I would definitely NOT go fast on Crow until I had spent a bunch of time going slow and visualizing / memorizing reefs.

Hope that helps.

Good luck!

That's the one I have, that I got from Thorne Bros (5 years ago though). There is a tackle shop in Nestor Falls (on the way up), that might have one, too.

Just go slow in the white spots... and fish them!

Does anyone know what the scoop is with these companies / websites? Neither one of them work. Did Alex Wilson Coldstream go out of business?
