| Supertroller is that the cisco kid Wrangler?
I have never caught a muskie trolling and rarely do it. Right now when I do troll it's pretty half cocked.... I would like to get a few good trolling baits so that when I do troll I'm not just aimlessly trolling one of my casting cranks. I have a few depthraiders straight and jointed. But don't ha e a ton of confidence in them. I would like to get a few believers and maybe headlock or two some day down the road but would like other suggestiins
I do also have a few Grandma's. |

| I’d definitely get a couple of 10” Jakes and a 10” jointed believers..I don’t troll much (maybe 10% of my Muskie Fishing time) but have several 100 trolling those two baits over the years.. |

Location: Almond, WI | Another vote for the 10" jointed Believer, it is my #1 trolling confidence bait. It is a bait I truly rave about, for only $20 and I can buy them at Fleet Farm it's hard to go wrong. Be careful when storing them, I've had some 8" Believers pop at the top seam from overheating in a clear box (10" have not been a issue so far but be careful anyway).

I'd like to experiment more with Mag Shallow Invaders, I think they have potential.
There's a bit of a split among the answers here. Most of the Northwoods fisherman pick big baits, the Southern shad based fisherman pick small baits. Doesn't mean a bait won't work in both--I know some excellent Southern reservoir fisherman that love 10" Believers, and I caught one on an 8" Believer last time I was in MN.
You can make minnow style baits "walk." Take your pliers or lure tuner and bend the two belly hook hangers in opposite directions. I first learned this from an old Spence Petros article, and it works. |

| I run them anywhere from 5-15 feet deep.. Lots of factors to how deep a lure will run trolling , A lot of times I like keeping them up.. running them behind boards with 20-40 feet of line behind the board for suspended fish .. |

Location: Almond, WI | Personally I like to fish high in spring/early summer, I run baits 4 to 10 feet. I usually run my Believers at 6 feet deep, with a 10" Believer I think that's 25' with 80lb braid and 36' with 50lb mono (top of my head). Believers have both deep and shallow settings, plus some of the East Coast guys add split rings to both eyes and snap them together creating a mid depth setting.
Don't just think this is an open water mid-lake thing; hit the secondary breakline, hit the deep weed edge, hit the gap between the weedline and breakline if there is one.
Like Supertroller said, get a copy of Musky Mike's Trolling Secrets. I've found it accurate. It has dive charts for most common baits and line combinations. You can download it off of Drifter Tackle's website last I checked. I think it's about $20. |

Location: Ames, Iowa | I troll a lot of spinnerbaits. I would suggest in the summer trying that on beaches, edges, flats to cover water. I troll larger Slammers and prefer them over Grandmas as I think they are better built and hold together over time. We have twitched the lips right off Grandmas. The 10-13 inch crankbaits run about 14-16 feet at 3.5 mph. I am usually trolling water 10-18 feet deep, and use the Spinnerbaits for anything under 12 feet. Caught a couple trolling beaches last summer. |
