Keith and I started the day on Bearskin early this morning, but the bloom was so thick it actually was smelly. We decided to pull off and head for a smaller lake that has produced for us under flat seas and 85 degrees, just like today. A 33 was the only fish out of 5 we moved willing to hit. A small Suick produced that fish.

We had planned to hit another darkwater lake in the evening where we hoped to take a better quality topwater fish, so we moved  at about 5:30. I missed a nice fish right away, but couldn't move her again, so we continued on the weedline edge. I had a big fish blow up on an Awaker, and set back up on her trying to get another angle. About 5 minutes later, she blasted the bait, jumped three times, and later actually JUMPED out of the Frabill ( What a NET!). Keith pinned the net against the side of the boat the next time she hit the bag, and the stick read 50 plus. I didn't get a girth, but would guess the fish at well over 30#. Wisconsin can still put out a piggy or two!! Keith had a PIG roll off his Topper Stopper a few minutes later JUST as she curled up to blast it because it fouled in some floating weeds.

Thanks to my 'netman', Keith. Last round he had two, and I was the netman. Make your kid take YOU fishing!!

What a blast! :) :)

Wow, what a nice fish. We had those conditions yesterday too, with a nice bloom and managed a small fish and had another hit.

Awesome fish Steve. Very good to see our Christian's team is still well represented in the final four of MatchFishing. One more to go and we can square off against each other.

And I thought they didn't get that big in Wisconsin.

Muskydude,

It is called a tape measure. You can get one at WalMart, I think ;).

I didn't want to lay the fish on the floor, so we  measured her while I supported her midsection and held her by the jaw. The tape read 50 and 1/4", without a straightline DNR style measurement. If I had layed the fish on the floor, straightened her out and manipulated the tail, she would have measured longer. No reason to; she was over 50 and that is all I cared about.

Mark,

You would have been very impressed with how careful I was with that bait in the net...

Thanks, man!

WTG Steve what a slob and a WI fish too booth. Congrats on the second 50 incher caught in a M1st match fishing event.

Hey Shep we had them beat again, we got 5 fish yesterday. BTW  I still can't believe losing in pool play and moving ahead of someone who as beat them and was undefeated. LMAO

What was the lure you used? Who makes it?

Thanks Richard. We do have some nice fish here in Northern Wisconsin with improving muskie fishing every year.

The lure was a Poe's Awaker. Look at the Jackson Lures website, they have a great selection. Here is a link:

http://www.jacksonlures.com/

I like the lure alot. It is a bit of a pain to start , and occasionally hooks up the blade with the rear hook, but pins up well. I can run it VERY slow, too, which is what we were doing Sunday night.

FSF, no, it is a smaller darkwater lake two miles from my house. Tiny landing unless you launch at a resort. Great crappies and nice pike, too. Sabota would shoot me if I messed with his stump infested slough big girls on Boom!

He, He, He, Last time I went to fish it there was no room to park so I went over to our favorite small lake that the smaller fish pictured was caught at.
