Posts: 7039 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | So when we troll salmon or muskies, we score it 3 for 5 as we caught versus 5 biters. Seeing this kind of report lately for just muskies, and I know not everyone is talking about trolling. Is this fish caught versus bites? Fish caught versus those seen?

Location: 31 | 3 boated 1 rip/hit (that's likely not a pike), and 1 lost... 3 for 5 in my boat trolling or casting.

Posts: 1144 Location: Minnesota. | On a good season I'll go 25 for 3 for 1. 25 seen. 3 hooked/lost. 1 caught! And that's on a good year.................... So far it's working that way! Edited by Jeremy 9/11/2017 3:59 PM

Posts: 1220 | What a pathetic pastime we pursue when forced to keep track of fish that got away, much less fish that followed and for how long they followed. And, yes, if a fish even "moved." You "moved" three fish today? Imagine as a young man pursuing the ladies your buddies says, "I saw a couple of girls tonight." I'd say, "whaaaat?" I'd put the loser on the next short bus to the "special" class. I'm giving this up or buying an exhaust pipe attachment that links to my mouth. The simple truth is I've "almost" had sex a whole of times, but can't think of a single person who would give a rip to hear about it.

The best in any sport look at their results and try to improve upon them. Data can be used to spot trends, where and when you should be fishing etc... It can also show you what lures produce more at certain times under certain conditions. The goal is to get hits and land fish isn't it?, unless you like sunset pics. You can scoff at it all you want Junkman but it might be something you want to start doing to improve your results, which are never too impressive. Mighta been better to just sit this thread out Marty. Edited by BNelson 9/12/2017 7:24 AM

Depends on the size of and location of the muskies you're fishing for when you make the determination, you're right that it can be hard to tell sometimes though.

Posts: 1220 | Humor (it seems?) is in the eye of the beholder, or at least the author. Alas, my post was a not really well received attempt at humor. And as to "results never too impressive," I have never plead anything but guilty to that, and especially true with my tourney attempts. My last attempt at Cass several weeks ago was with 200 guys and gals who fished 15 hours each for a total of 25 fish. That's (give or take) about 120 angling hours per fish caught, or three full work-weeks per angler to get a fish. And, yes, I was in the not catching group. I did post honest congratulations to the winners, which I usually do, and the above post was nothing more then poking fun at myself for what seems (all too often) like a dumb way to spend a day beating myself up. Lastly, just like last year's Chicago Cubs, there will be a day when I catch a fish. Until then, I actually do work pretty hard to "improve my results." It'll get there.

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Sometimes folks take this whole muskie fishing thing way too seriously. I'm really glad Junkman doesn't. And Nelson, I promise you, you can't hold even a birthday cake candle to Junkman's lunch sandwiches. Some people take food too seriously too, but Junkman has the sandwich category nailed. Most everyone likes to eat. Marty will feed you right if you spend a day in his ride.
