How did you do on the water this weekend? We had one fish in about 4 hours on the water, on a topwater.

Water temps were high 70's, getting up there.

Well, like I posted on what I was going to do this weekend, no musky action to report.

My daughter and I did manage to bring back to the "Northwoods" 100 lbs of rainbow, king and coho fillets. Had no real info on what was going on out of Manitowoc, so I did what has worked the past, oh, 10+ years the middle of August.

Took a 90 degree heading out of the harbor, set in at 8.5 miles, 185' of water working the top to 85' down. Did not even have all of the lines in and had the skunk out and lost one. The first evening we went 6 for 8 in 2 hours. Same area the next morning and same results with fish in the boat, only problem was that we were 6 for 18 in 6 hours. Lost a total of 9 big screamers that were really nice fish this weekend. The last day we pulled kings as deep as 130'. If you want to get a work out, crank up 10 pound weights from 85'-130' every 10-15 minutes for 6 hours; good workout.

Oh yeah, surface temps on Lake Michigan ranged from 69-73 degrees. Heard a guy talking on the radio that his probe 50 feet down read 70 degrees also.

Wife said tonight, "There is no way we are going to eat all of this fish!" Steve, interested in some FRESH salmon?

Fished Saltfork all day Saturday. 8Man razed the only fish(high 40's or possibly 50) on a 9" Grandma. She came around twice on the "8", gave a lipcurl, then left the scene.

My boys and I just spent 41/2 days on Eagle and loved it all! What a beautiful place. We visited the falls, did some hiking, swimming, and of course caught some fish. We spent a lot of time mapping Vermilion bay, Portage bay, and the West arm.
The kids didn't catch a lot of fish but the ones they caught were all good ones. My youngest caught a couple nice 36" pike, My 10 year boy's biggest was a very fat 40" pike on a 35' break into 51' trolling using wire line. There were 7 other good pike caught off this same break with in 2 hours time. Ryan 13, started his trip with a 39" pike and then followed that with a 38"x18" pike trolling in 30', he then brought a 48" x 21" muskie boat side, hooked her on a turn and the fun was on, she jumped a couple of times before landing her,,, what a thrill! He then landed a 46"er the very next day again boat side. Somebody pinch me. I guess were going back.

Jerry,

What a trip! Congratulations. Awesome fish and an awesome time with your sons. This is what we love about time on the water with family; the screaming and excitement of catching a fish of a lifetime. Go nail some more before they all move out. It'll be here before you know it!

Went to St Claire on saturday morning. fished until right after lunch and a severe storm came in. So, in the 1/2 day on saturday, i lost one fish...that's it. The only st clair fish to mess w/ our lures. Then i fished a southern michigan lake for 1/2 day on sunday and got skunked too. SO, the BIG ZERO for me.

THe one we had hooked and fought on st claire did come on a bait my partner had painted the night before, so that was kind of cool.
Getting skunked in the midwest.

Fished a shallow weedy lake close to home on Friday eve for 3 hours and didn't see a fish. That makes 3 consecutive excursions without a muskie sighting! Frustrating sport at times!

Oconomowoc on Saturday: one miss way out, one follow, 3 gar coming to the boat, one near homicide of father when he dumped the truck 5ft. too deep in the lake and got it stuck.
Smallie fishing the BIG Lake (Michigan) Sunday with Luke_Chinewalker: 4 smallies, 2 gobies, about 30 misses, saw 25 planes from the air and water show, almost fell in 15X in the swells, 100 gallons of water over the bow of L_C's Triton, one hottie sighted.

Fished the Deer Lake, Bone Lake Tourney this weekend. 74 teams, 37 on each lake each day. A total of 9 fish registered, 6 on Deer and 3 on Bone, one team with 2 fish. 1st place was 41+ and a 38+ caught by Monty Stanton and Rick Smudlach, you may remember them from last year on the PMTT trail. 2nd place was a 44+ inch fish caught by Mathias and Clark from the St. Croix Falls area, 3rd place, 41" fish caught by Getschel and Hoen..........yep that's right we finally got one. I also lost a fish on Sunday am. The fish we got was the only one caught on Deer Lake on Sunday. There was only one fish caught on Bone on Sunday as well. Very tough fishing, 9 hours each day, hot as all get out and nothing was moving. Most fish were caught on jigs, ours was caught on a new prototype jig head from Stanley Jigs called the "swimming jig" watch for it later this year and in the spring.

Shep you out there? Bet you can't guess where we caught our fish.....

Yup, I'm out here, and yes, I bet I can! How many people did you offer to share that spot with? LOL

Congrats on your placing 3rd, in what sounded like the kind of conditions we had at the outing last year!

Joel,we lost two fish that night. We lost a mid 40's fish boatside. The fish came in easy and then went nuts at the boat, she took a run and came off on the way back to the boat. BUMMERRRRR. We had a mid thirtys on later that came off after a few jumps and rolls. What the ----!!! I did catch a nice 42 1/2 ski on Sunday morning after comming back from the big pond. I launched the rig at 4am and put it back on the trailer at 4:30am. 4 footers and building is not my kind of fun on the big pond. Northeast winds were not friendly on that water for us. So I put in on Pewaukee and scored in the first 1/2 hour. Once the sun came up boats started to come from everywhere. WOW it was a zoo by 9am. So it was time to get some honey due list things done around the house.

Fished Pineview Reservoir both Sat and Sun AM for a couple hours each day. Sat was real good - 2 fish (tigers) boated, biggest 42". A couple more missed strikes for our boat too. Sun was slower, a couple misses, a puny smallmouth, and one follow to the boat of a dandy tiger (estimate low to mid 40" class). All in all, a pretty good weekend. I have digital pics but can't download tomorrow.

Fished Pymatuning on Saturday from Noon until 5 PM. Lost one in the mid 30's on a 9" holoperch Grandma while trolling. Had two other rips but no luck.

Supposed to go perch & walleye fishing on Erie Sunday but the lake didn't co-operate. 6'ers aren't much fun, especially on Erie.

Very nice, Todd. Those are some healthy looking fish!

Where were you? Jigging reefs? Pulling Crawler harnesses? Or crankbaits? Just looking for some advance help to get the wife and kid on some decent eyes next week. Thanks.

Shep,

I was pulling reef runners on Lake of the Woods in 26 to 31 feet adjacent to reefs (colors- Wonderbread, and gold/orange). If you are going to be on LOTW, the reefs off Rocky Point are putting out unbelievable numbers of big walleyes and have been for a while now. In the last two weeks my boat has had at least 40 25" and over :). Bottom bouncers and nightcrawlers(or leeches)with hammered gold spinner harnesses are working also if you want to bait fish on top and around the reef edges. Downrigging is also working well with lots of large fish coming on the flats about 2 miles off shore. 28-34' seems to be the best depth. I will be out again tomorrow and hopefully have some more nice pics.

hope this helps,

toddb

Thanks, Todd. Where abouts is Rocky Point? Near enough to Sabaskong Bay? I will look at the map tonight. Looks from the picturs that you could be in Big Traverse Bay? Big, open water area, huh?

Shep,
You are correct sir. Rocky Point is between Baudette and Warroad. It is the western side of the BIG point on the south shore.

What a nice looking Tiger! And fat, too! Congrats on a great fish.

I have never caught a tiger, and if I ever get a good one, I'll take a lot of good pics, and have a repro mount made.
