Posts: 617 Location: Clintonville, WI | This is the initial thread to start us off and it covers a lot of ground. READ THIS THREAD THOROUGHLY. The rules and requirements have evolved over time and most everything in here is what it is because of past questions / issues. Get a team set up per the rules and get ready to fish __________________________________________________________________ First……TACKLE INDUSTRIES and SUICK are our sponsors for MatchFishing 2017. Thank you, TI and Suick!!! Your involvement is much appreciated. There will be more to come ahead about these sponsors as we progress throughout the season. ___________________________________________________________________ Participation is FREE, and there is a short list of requirements: 1. MuskieFirst has sole discretion, at any time, over all aspects of MatchFishing, including but not limited to rules decisions, competition set-up, exceptions, prize offering and prize distribution. 2. The group expects a commitment to participate in all respects – if you sign up, you better fish. 3. You must have the ability to provide me with digital pictures of your results 4. Respect the spirit of the event. The idea of MatchFishing is to incent getting out on the water with friends/family, to have fun and to have friendly competition. 5. Don’t cheat. 6. Don’t be “Richards” to MuskieFirst, your opponents, others on the water, property owners, the DNR, me……..you get the picture. 7. You must have your sign-up message posted by 11:59 pm on April 28, 2017. 8. MuskieFirst reserves the right to limit, alter, change or otherwise adjust the number of entries, in any way MuskieFirst deems necessary, to accommodate competition set-up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RULES Teams: A team consists of one or two fishermen. If two, you must fish with each other from one boat or shore at the same time. Teams may not consist of three anglers at any time, under any circumstances. If one of the team members is unavailable, a substitute may fill in, but one of the people fishing must be a team member. Professional fishing guides are welcome to participate as competitors in MatchFishing with their own team, but teams may not hire a paid guide as a substitute team member. In this thread, please post a reply with the following: • team name • names of team members • City & State of each team member *** email me your full addresses separately • Cell phone #s for each member • e-mail for each member • required two dates (minimum) for fishing availability. I am asking for permission to share cell #s and email addresses of all the teams so you may contact each other for scheduling, cancellations and any other necessary MatchFishing communication. Please provide me with your permission to do so in your sign-up responses. Do not abuse this information! ___________________________________________________________________ Matches: Whether it be pool play or some other structure I come up with, this will be determined by how many teams sign up. There will be a “regular season” from which the results will determine “playoff” teams. Again, the playoff structure will be determined by the initial number of teams entered. A match consists of two teams fishing against each other ON THE SAME DAY. Teams may fish different waters, but all fishing by both teams must take place between 12:00 am and 11:59 pm on the day of the scheduled match. For example…..A team on vacation at LOTW can fish against their opponent who is on vacation on Mille Lacs as long as it is on the same day. As mentioned, you do not have to fish from a boat. If you are fishing solo, it is what it is. If you and your partner are fishing from shore 1) You and your partner must fish within 50 yds of each other 2) If you are on a dammed body of water of any kind, you both must fish the same section i.e. one can not be above a dam while the other fishes below the dam, even if within 50 yds of each other. You do not have to fish a set or minimum amount of time within the match date and time parameters. Each team has until 12:00 pm (noon) the day after their match to submit photos and results. When you report in, your message must include the photo(s), length of fish caught, your team name, the date of your match and who your opponent is. The date/time received on my cell phone and/or email will be the official record so make sure you send them as soon as you can after your match. Teams failing to report results by the deadline will not be given points for any fish they may have caught that day. No exceptions. I will place results and images in the 2017 MatchFishing thread as my time permits. DO NOT POST YOUR OWN RESULTS anywhere! They will not be accepted. Photos and results must be sent to: Mike Morse (BigMo) [email protected] cell: (920) 213-0898 For back-up purposes only, Slamr can accept match info for me if I will be unavailable for an extended period of time. I will let you know in advance if I will be unavailable and when you should connect with Slamr. Otherwise, do not send him match info or try to get items from him. Andrew Golden [email protected] (847) 989-9271 No rematches are allowed during the “regular season.” Each match will be scored according to the results on the day of the match: win, lose, or tie. ___________________________________________________________________ Scheduling: As long as you are fishing water on or after its seasonal opening date, matches can begin at Midnight May 6, 2017 and must conclude by 11:59 pm August 31, 2017. When each team signs up, they are required to provide two days during each of the months of June/July/August that they expect they will be available to fish a match to help get going. Teams will not be entered into MatchFishing until they provide these dates. If there is a match date agreed upon, the match will take place on that day unless both teams agree to change it. Things come up, we are all busy…..please communicate with each other ahead of time if you will not be able to fish a scheduled date. All agreed upon matches must be posted in the MatchFishing thread or emailed to me with both team names and the date to be fished. If one of the teams is a “no-show” on a match date, the match still counts. The absent team will receive 0 points. Please be flexible and do everything you can to schedule matches and honor the commitments, or communicate with other teams for rescheduling. 90+ days should be more than enough to get Pool matches in. There were some issues in the past with anglers that had an odd schedule for work and/or life; for example, those that are able to fish a lot from Mondays-Thursdays. Everyone has to be flexible and put the effort into making the scheduling work. Again, 90+ days should be sufficient to make the “regular season” work. ____________________________________________________________________ Items: Once a match is scheduled, teams will be assigned an item of some sort. This item must be visible in a picture taken with any qualifying muskies they catch on the day of the match. We will try to make it unique and interesting. I am your source of the items. I will have record of all the properly posted match dates and will provide items via MuskieFirst, text, e-mail or cell call no sooner than the day before the match. Items will not be given out early under any circumstance. Failure to include the item in the photograph disqualifies that fish from scoring points. No exceptions. ** Last resort, if you can’t get your item due to unforeseen circumstances, the default options are: 1. Get a local newspaper where you are fishing. Have the front page visible in any fish photos. Let me know what paper it is in case I can’t tell form the photo. 2. If both of you are fishing and each have a cell phone, have one of the phones on the date/time screen and include it in the photo. ____________________________________________________________________ Scoring: • Minimum size of 35” o 35” = 5 points o every 1” above that earns 1 point o any ½” is rounded up Additional Points Available Per Match for “regular season”: • Point total of fish length for each team • + 2 points to the winning team or + 1 point for each team if there is a tie with fish point totals • + 1 point for each team being on the water for the match (verified by photos with the item) • 0 points for losing a match due to non-participation The reason we score this way is 1) the fish point method is a common tournament method 2) it will help determine playoff seeding 3) it will provide potential tiebreaker(s) information for later rounds In the event of a tie in “regular season” as it relates to determining playoff involvement, the tie-breaker will be largest fish caught during pool play. ____________________________________________________________________ Playoff Rounds: Each team making the “playoffs” will likely be seeded according to their FISH POINT total from the “regular season”. #1 will fish head-to-head versus the lowest seed, #2 will fish head-to-head versus the second lowest seed, and so on..... The first Playoff Round clock will begin at Midnight on September 1, 2017. These matches must be completed by 11:59 pm on September 30, 2017. The winners of the Playoff Round(s) will eventually advance to the Championship. The Championship period is Midnight October 1, 2017 through 11:59 pm on October 31, 2017. ***If the number of teams dictates, we would fish into November to determine a champ. During the playoff rounds and championship, rematches will be allowed in the case of ties until one team wins. If neither team is able to win a match before the end of the time allowed, total Fish Points from all qualified matches will determine the winner. If total fish points are a tie, the largest fish caught during all rounds determines the winner. Edited by BigMo 4/13/2017 3:55 PM

Posts: 617 Location: Clintonville, WI | There are 16 teams committed at this point. Many familiar names/teams and some new ones too! 16 is good for bracket format and I can work with 17 in the same format as 2016. Otherwise, we need to get to 20 or 24. Hard deadline is 11:58 pm this Friday night. ** If the number of entrants ends up being difficult to work with in terms of setting up pools, I will likely go with first come - first served. Which means.....I could have to cut out later entries. So, if you are interested, get your commitment in to me ASAP.

Posts: 617 Location: Clintonville, WI | Including Calcutta Clippers, we have 20 teams signed up. That is terrific! ** To the Calcutta Clips, please post cell #s and email addresses. We can work well with 20 teams.......but that is not to deter anyone else from signing up. Just know if there are other entries coming, we will need to get to 24 teams to make the format viable. Let's make that happen. If you have been thinking about MatchFishing, go for it and sign up here. If you know others that might be interested, let them know.

Posts: 617 Location: Clintonville, WI | Give me until Thursday night. Last entry took us to 21 teams. I have to find a way to make an odd # work or make the tough call to eliminate the last team. For those that are able and want to fish Saturday, I'll try to get you enough time to make calls/contact your potential opponents for a match.
