I usually get at least one incidental musky per year crappie or walleye fishing.

Stupid fish that got me "hooked" on this was when I was 17, fishing with my best friend (musky45) and my dad on Cliff Lake for pike, bass...whatever. Big, wide, long fish came cruising in a bunch of times on spinnerbaits, daredevils, and buzz baits. Never ate, but that's the one that "got me." The next year I was back with my first musky rod and reel and a Poe's Awaker. So, no, my first one was actually caught on musky gear. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever caught one accidentally. Weird!

Can't really count it because I lost the fish, but it was way back when they first started stocking hybrids in Silver Lake. I was farting around with a Rebel crawfish when I saw this giant fish swimming nearby. (It was probably all of 30") Not a bass, not a walleye, hey, maybe that's one of those muskies! Threw past it, a few turns of the reel and the fight was on. Fought it all the way to shore a couple times before it got off. Didn't sleep much that night.

Caught a couple thousand so far Spoonplugging for lm bass. Catching a muskie or a hundred at least for me has more to do with being on bodies of water that have muskies and being prepared for a Muskie when it takes the bait.

A lot of guys hook into muskies but never get em to the boat because they either get bit off or don't have the right size net or equipment to land such a fish, happens all the time.

Fishing a small swimbait for pike/walleye/Smallies at long point LOTW from shore. Only fish I got from shore was a 24" muskie. They must be moving in down there

caught a 43" muskie on a rooster tail while fishing for white bass. One of my most fun experiences of fishing. It made 5 long runs, each time coming completely out of the water. There was a missing tooth where the rooster tail was hooked in its mouth. Just lucky the muskie didn't bite off the rooster tail. Wish I could catch another one like that.

The only accidental one I have caught was on a night crawler while fishing for suckers on the Mississippi many years ago. It was maybe 24 inches!

My brother got one, a 16" monster, casting a small Mepps spinner while I was throwing a big crank bait. Ever since then I've had to deal with " I don't know what the big deal is; they're pretty easy to catch." and "When I got my musky..."

If I weren't a priest (and he weren't bigger than me), I'd slap him along side the head.

We average a couple muskies per year while crankbait trolling for walleyes. I have probably had just as many hit the plainer boards the past few years. Last July we had the same fish take the board down three times before cutting the line, my confidence in yellow went up after that.

I didn't catch it but last spring while fishing for crappies with little minnows I had been catching some decent crappies but was losing a lot of bait to 6" perch. The slip bobber went straight down and I thought "crappie". However, when I set the hook, the little ultralight rod bent in half, with the tip almost hitting my hand before the 4# test snapped. There was a huge swirl that continued for 5 seconds or so where the muskie had taken the minnow. The hook apparently ticked that muskie off.
I know there is a big fish that hunts that shoreline. I had never contacted it before but friends and neighbors have raised it/lost it. Figures the one time I encountered it, I would have a number 6 hook and 4# mono on an ultralight ;>).

One on a beetle spin for crappies - 36". One on a jig and twister tail for walleye -39". And had a pig - 48"+ on a husky jerk while walleye fishing from shore in the spring. Had it to my feet three times and on the third attempt trying to hand land it the back hook broke off. Funny thing is that fish woulda been my PB for the last 14 years!

Quite a few, but one that got me hooked. It was from Waconia in November, casting a 2" shadling to shore while my friends boat had stalled. I thought i snagged a rock in about 1 FOW, turned out to be a 39" muskie. Quite a battle with light line. The weather completely changed within minutes of that fish and we left the lake.

This is what gave me the itch I cannot now stop! 1/4oz. Mooselook wobbler all copper fishing for smallmouth at an outflow. Hooked into an estimated mid to high 30's which spat the hook at the rock I was fishing off of. Never will forget that moment or my first fish which was purposefully caught and landed! My friend caught and landed a low 40's on a minnow crappie fishing and his dad had one on a night crawler while walleye fishing!

Let's talk about the accidental fish we've all caught while muskie fishing.
I caught a largemouth bass that was 26.5" long and as big around as it could possibly get and full of eggs ready to move up on the bed. 10+ pounder

I know nobody will believe this but I caught about a 25" musky with my jet ski. I came around the end of the pier gunned it and the musky jumped out of the wake and landed on my pier. My wife got 1 quick picture as my German short pointer jumped on it also so she was trying to take pic and separate GPS from musky. Both dog and musky were very green and ready to wrestle. Fish went back quickly before any good pics could be taken. Funny stuff
