Posts: 299 | I agree on Karma. That could have been somebody else's reel, the store will lose money, employee might have made a simple mistake that will cost him/her? I had this happen with a Simms Clothing order from a Fly Shop online awhile back. They accidentally sent me another $200 worth of clothing I didn't order and wasn't charged. As tempting as it was I called the shop, notified them of the mistake and told them I'm going to return it. They were shocked I called and honest because they somehow had no record of the mistake. They even offered me to keep the clothing at no charge. Instead I sent it back. A week later they sent me a $100 gift card in the mail thanking me for doing the right thing. That summer I decided to give the gift card to the next kid I saw fishing (excluding my kids). I didn't need the clothing or gift card, nor did my kids and decided to give it to some kid who could use it. If you keep the 2nd reel I get it....Maybe you deserve it? If you decide to not return it, give it to a kid or a fellow Muskie guy that could really use it. Or maybe "your" luck has changed and you need it? It's your call...but as Woodieb said "what goes around comes around." I totally agree! Karma is real! Nothing is more rewarding than doing the right thing and this is not me being "high and mighty". I've been on both sides and far from perfect. Heck, maybe call them. They might let you keep it? They might be so appreciative of your honesty that they won't forget you in the future? Who knows? Just all opinions...no judging. You'll know what the right thing to do is...go with your heart.

Posts: 705 Location: Alex or Alek? | I have a friend that this has happened to on amazon, not just once, and they weren't cheap items, projector, tile saw, just to name a few. It it were me, go buy a new rod and on the way to the store buy a lotto ticket as well. You're not going to gain anything by calling the store besides a pat on the back.

Posts: 135 | There a difference between what's legally allowed (keeping it) and what's ethically proper. Sheesh, the suggestion that Americans are amoral is ridiculous. The reason we teach kids lessons about ethical behavior is so that they live that way as adults. When people are rioting and breaking into stores to steal stuff everyone jumps to point the finger at them as criminals with no moral compass. But when something shows up in our mail from that same store, it's suddenly "big store, won't hurt them, Merry Christmas, etc."? At a minimum I'd call them and ask what they'd like to do: return it at their cost or allow me to keep it. If they told me to keep it, I'd do that and sleep good at night. Otherwise I'd feel like a thief. If you paid for it, it's yours; if you didn't...

Gain a good feeling that you did the "right thing". Gain being able to sleep freely at nights. Gain not having to go back later to the store when you still feel bad about keeping it. I do think you are correct that none of us are morally correct. There was only one perfect person to ever set foot on this earth and we are going to celebrate his birth in a few days. On a lighter note, I believe the muskie gods frown on people using "stolen" items.....

He told me nice guys finish last. Also I certainly don't consider that reel stolen. Just a lucky break. He didn't tuck it into his underwear and strut out of the store. It's not a deal I would feel right or wrong about.. It just fell out of the sky, so to speak. Life's a garden, dig it.

Posts: 705 Location: Alex or Alek? | IDK why people are saying they'd feel like a thief, he didn't steal anything, they sent it to you. You didn't walk into the store and putting a reel in your pants and walk out. When you go and buy crappie minnows and they accidentally give you a couple shiners do you bring the shiners back to the store? Or when you buy a dozen minnows and they give you 15 do you give 3 back?
