A few weeks ago we sure described the bad things fishing partners do. I was thinking on the way home from Sab Bay what makes a great partner. I have had three of the best, they are all gone to musky nirvana now. So here goes what I think makes a great partner.

1. AT gas stops, gets out of my truck and has his credit in the slot before I do.

2. For a weeks trip, brings some of the food and offers to cook once in a while.

3. Willing to help with dishes and chores around camp

4. Treats my boat like his own

5. Doesn't drink to excess

6. Realizes musky fishing is a team sport, glad when I'm get one as I am when he does.

7. Not in a hurry to go in. Realizes things can get exciting fast. But also plays it safe.

8. Has good equipment and knows how to use it.

9. Willing to try new techniques once in a while

10. Good conversation, but doesn't talk your head off especially in the boat.

11. Respects my place and equipment like his own.

12. Cheerful with a positive attitude

Feel free to comment or add on. I would appreciate your opinion.

One that flows the boat rules. If they don't, push them in the drink, don't look back.

C'mon Sled just 8 more.seconds!

Has the patience to fish deep water and/or offshore structure rather than just pounding shorelines and visible structure.

I prefer solo, but there are a few folks that have grown on me over the years. The drinking thing is a given, I don't drink at all and don't have the patience to babysit a liability on the water (but I'm bringing a little something, just for my glaucoma) Some of my friends don't have 2 nickles to rub together. I'm cool with that, if I invite you fishing it's not because I need help filling the tank. All my friends respect the fish and it's habitat. There's no littering, they're respectful to other anglers, and if they want a picture they're getting wet.

It's always good to have some one not set in their ways.
On my boat there is a lot of 'well what do you think'
My latest fishing partner is 8 years old and a sponge for fishing knowledge.
He can also outlast many adults on the water. lol

I have to jump in this conversation. I'm not easy to fish with as I can't physically do many things after hitting the twilight yrs. My partner is my nephew and he does the heavy stuff so an old codger like me can still enjoy muskie fishing. We have only a few rules - No Politics, no drinking and no reading the signs on the way to the lake. Take the kids fishing. They will pass on your legacy.

having great boobs is always a plus in my boat.

but i concur with taking a kid. my nephew was always my fishing partner after my daughter got into her teens.

have some great memories with him, too bad they have to grow up and get married though!

Aren't you guys worrying about your dog's blabbing about your spots. They see another dog, start sniffing butt and next thing going you know another dog knows your spots and so on and so on and so on.

Haha. That's why I like fishing with my fiance, she really isn't a dedicated fisherman, but the scenery is to die for.

How come nobody has mentioned a boat partner that knows to keep his rod down and his bait in the water when crossing paths with another boat. Those guys are always funny, in 5 seconds you can see the popular bait fly through the air on the next cast.
