Posts: 1209 | I live 150 miles away and am on call 2 out of six weekends. So at worst I am not out of 12 days in a row. Unless I can't help take a few week days off. I have done that many times before.

Posts: 1638 Location: Minnesota | Are you asking how many rods I bring in my boat ? Or how many rods I have out at any one time?

Posts: 1425 Location: St. Lawrence River | Well I guess I will be in the 19-20 category.. but its really probably more like 22-23 musky rods in my boat.

Posts: 20254 Location: oswego, il | Two, that is all you need. A place like lsc, a rod to throw bucktail and one to throw big rubber. Could probably get away with one rod but big baits can bring big breaks. A spare is good to have. Other lakes two again, the bass Flippin stick and a heavy action muskie rod. Any spares in the rod box, no need for more than two out.

Posts: 548 Location: MN | A better question might be how many rods have a reel attached... at one time in your boat?

Posts: 1425 Location: St. Lawrence River | Jokes aside, one LT Slingblade, one TI XXH, and a beater with a 6500LC on it. I can do pretty much everything with that.

Posts: 427 | I will typically have six loaded and ready. A 9ft xxh TI with a tranx, 9ft xh TI with a luna, 9ft TI MH with a komodo, 7ft 6 bulldog xh with exo 300 for jerks, 7ft 6 xh bass rod with exo300 for rattlebaits and an 8ft avid inshore spinning rod with an abu reel for a change of pace and my son.

Posts: 325 Location: Otsego, MN | I put 6 and here's my rational... -I typically don't fish alone so its my rods and someone else's. -I have 2 on the deck all setup and 1-2 in the rod locker. I usually use 2 at most in a day but if we take a break from casting and do some trolling that's another couple to pull out. On a side note, when you fish in someone else's boat I find it extremely rude to bring 100 baits and more than 2 rods. If its a long trip, like several days, bring all the rods you want but do you need them all on the boat? Leave some at the camp...

Posts: 1938 Location: Black Creek, WI | I selected 4, 2 for each person. That is the number of rods on the deck for quick, easy access. Rod Locker always has spares and application specific stuff. I like to run a clean, tidy ship to maximize useable deck surface. I also like to fish with my toes to the rail... and clutter on deck limits where I can stand and move to when needed at a moments notice.

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | there are 2 places for spare rods ... in front and behind me in the rod holder or in the locker. i keep the fishing side clear of everything and my biggest pet-peeve is when sally takes a break and lays the rod pointing out or on the fishing side of the boat or brings a bunch of crap along with them. a clean and clear fishing boat is a safe and effective one. in my group of friends if we jump into the other guy's boat it's understood that you can just jump in without bringing anything ... that's the best way to do it IMO. most of us have enough to outfit an army and the boat is already filled with anything you would need.

Posts: 1938 Location: Black Creek, WI | Nick59 - 5/3/2016 10:06 AM I wish my rods fit in the rod locker.... :) Telescoping options are great! My Ranger 681 had a 10'6" Rod Locker so never had an issue. My new to me Ranger 620 can carry 9'6" rods with the caps removed on the tubes. That was a glorious discovery for my custom St. Croixs!!!!

Wait.. so you didn't wanna know what brand each rod, reel, boat, length of storage compartment, # of bass combos, personal beliefs regarding boat guest etiquette and the reasons behind all of the above too?

Posts: 1275 Location: Walker, MN | I usually have 3 casting rods and 2 trolling rods on the boat as a minimum. I add one casting rod for each additional person so...5-7 rods total.

Wait.. so you didn't wanna know what brand each rod, reel, boat, length of storage compartment, # of bass combos, personal beliefs regarding boat guest etiquette and the reasons behind all of the above too? Well I didn't dare get into the specifics behind why, but I know if people keep everything tidy I don't care what they bring but when I can't 8 or net a fish cause they have all of here trash in my boat it irks me. I can have 9 rods out, 3 in use and 6 on deck with no issues or I can have 2 on deck like a toddler left them there and it's in my way... I have 16 rods of my own on the boat that cover anything I want to catch, I can handle another 20 rods for 2 partners as long as they have rod socks on. If they don't the limit is 4 rods not covered. But I know I am crazy. The reason for this thread is seeing how prepared everyone is for any display of lure when they don't have a fresh pattern...

Posts: 1150 Location: Minnesota. | One in hand, none on deck and two or three in the locker below me. I can grab one pre-rigged in a few secs. as needed. I think loose rods w/baits attached are a poor/dangerous idea unless you have adequate storage to keep them out'a the way.

Posts: 815 Location: Waukee, IA | I voted four, because I have 4 muskie specific combos that I usually take on every trip. I also carry a trolling rod occasionally so... 4.5?
