Posts: 351 Location: Vilas County, WI | I must be missing something here... but on the Musky related fishing shows how come they never say what lake they are fishing on? Thanks

Posts: 43 | Silly angler. Don't you know musky fishing is a secret? If they say what lake they are fishing on, hundreds if not thousands of anglers will run right out to that lake chasing the toothy critters. Maybe if they were offered money from the local chamber of commerce they may consider it.

Posts: 624 Location: S.W. WI | When they say where they are fishing- they get ripped by everyone for doing so. When they don't- they get asked "why don't they......". Its a no win. Usually It's not too hard to figure out where they are. Edited by Rudedog 1/7/2016 5:39 AM

Posts: 269 Location: Oregon, WI | He usually gives enough clues to figure it out, especially when it's pretty much the only musky lake in the area, as in the first show. The shoreline structure and the "narrows" is a dead giveaway. What was interesting was the lack of the insane boat traffic that is usually present on weekends.

Posts: 20211 Location: oswego, il | It could be a 50 acre puddle or lake st Claire your always fishing someone's secret spot. Like Worrall said, there isn't anything that musky fisherman can't good guy about.

The sand piles by Peche use to only have 1 or 2 musky guys fishing there in the fall & now you have 35 or more musky boats fishing there. One of my fall honey holes on LSC I used to have all to myself on a Saturday & because of a couple of shows plus these other jack holes with their musky channel on YouTube showing the area I have to put up with 20 other boats near me.

Posts: 140 Location: Scandia MN | A big part of the fun for me is figuring out where they are - which is probably a sign that I don't have enough to do . I have found a couple of productive places sleuthing about this way but overall there really aren't many secret spots left in muskie world - - - -

Posts: 4080 Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | I solved this problem last year... First, I made a list of all the "HOT" muskie guides. Than(or is it then?) after I had the Best guides, And BNelson.. on my list, I just planted GPS tracking devices on their boats.. Problem solved. except that it cost me about $20,000. Ben Olson was a challenge .. His compound is more secure than the White House, and his guard dogs still enjoys the taste of my Butt.... Bwaaahaha.....

Posts: 8774 | Can't say I blame them. If you have a place where you can consistently catch enough fish to film a show, why tell everyone where it is? You know people will see the show and go fish there. It's one thing if it's LOTW or Green Bay or somewhere. Quite another when it's a small lake somewhere that doesn't get much pressure. Sure, it's easy to figure out for the guys who already fish there and know it well enough to pick out spots and landmarks. Those folks are already there. But for the rest? Why take the chance that the next time you go there to film you'll be waiting in line for a spot and filming a bunch of other boats in the background?

Posts: 242 | To be honest, why do you need to know the lake? I like the challenge of finding my own unadvertised spots using the techniques these shows (at least some of them) are trying to teach you. Adds to the fun and reward of a catch.

Posts: 221 | I get very amused by the folks that put a ton of stock into seeing video of seasoned guide(s) putting themselves or hosts on fish. You can pretend it'll be that easy if you go there, but it never is.

Yeah, Jim Saric could give me a chip with the gps coordinates of every fish he catches during the filming of his show and I still could find a way not to catch anything

Location: Sawyer County, WI | I think the shows should do what the vast majority of approval seeking musky fishermen do when they post photos of their big catches - just say that you're fishing on the ever popular Lake X !

Sled you tiger! Just saying what Dan posted here it isn't too hard to figure out what person, what lake. Most of the time there are enough clues in the program to figure it out. You just have to understand what they are, everything to look for and put them together. Landmarks are just one very small part.

I think the lack of traffic might have been part early season and part video editing. You could hear some people cheering him when he pulled the first fish out of the bag. C7

Posts: 2752 Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Who gives a rat's nice try. I don't, the best part of the show's is techniques.....like I'm going to drive up to Eagle and camp on Steve H's spot or Presque Isle & camp on one of Howie's or follow Spencer around like a salivating dog on LSC, NOT! If you're that bad off, you need to take up golf..then you know where the hole is! Right SLED™? Is the winternet here yet? LOL! Have fun! Al

Should honestly be the first thing any aspiring (or veteran) angler does when they want to learn a new lake.

Posts: 470 Location: Blaine, MN | So a buddy and myself spent 2 hours and a half case of beer discussing where Keyes was in show 1.... Neither of us could figure it out, but that piece of water looked absolutely beautiful. We don't fish WI outside of Polk county, anyone want to PM me the name of the lake to fill in our blanks, and so I can dream all winter about buying a cabin on it? Only thing we have are guesses. If not, no worries, still fun to discuss. Thanks

Im pretty sure its redstone lake near lavalle wi. After watching the episode i was wondering the same thing so i went on navionics and started searching for lakes in southwest wi. Just type in the lake names in google and look at the images. Only took me about 15 minutes to get it narrowed down. Looks like a nice body of water but im guessing it will be a little crowded this years opener. Edited by wisskie 1/10/2016 12:55 PM
