Posts: 203 Location: Alexandria, Minnesota | Time to rally the troops, OCTOBER 29TH from 6 – 8 pm PLEASE take the time to attend the walleye/musky MN DNR meeting at the Otter Tail Power Community Room in Fergus Falls MN. The address is 215 South Cascade Street. The Pelican Lakes Association is aggressively promoting participation of all fishermen and non-fishermen alike against musky stocking to attend and voice their concerns regarding, “physical injuries caused by large muskies.” We know this is complete nonsense, but Senator Ingebrigtsen and Representative Bud Nornes need to hear it from us Thursday October 29th, be there! My goal at this meeting is to have a show of numbers larger than those trying to falsely express muskies being detrimental to walleye populations or public safety. The meeting room has been reserved from 5 to 8 pm so if you are able to show up earlier that would be great. Bring posters to protest. Tell your friends to be present. Our voices matter. It is of the utmost importance we unite against the termination of musky stocking in Otter Tail County Lakes or the Pelican Lakes Association will be granted their slanderous plea. I know I sure love having musky lakes in my back yard and do not want to lose them so if you like fishing muskies in Central and Northwestern Minnesota as I do, let’s get out and show our strength in numbers. Thank you, Katee Campion Vikingland Muskies Inc President

Posts: 3150 | We need to organize a car pool from various locations, Thursday is good that gives you all week to remind people to be there. Usually these things start at 7pm at least the ones I've been to,,,any chance we could get that extra hour I think it would matter in the turnout by traveling muskie guys. Posts: 1059 Location: Medford, WI | Dave, Being in WI, I'm unable to make the meeting, but I would be highly interested in contacting any Senators/Reps/etc. to let them know my opinion. Also, are there any business owners/chamber of commerces people could contact to let know how much time/money that people have spent in those areas, solely because of the musky fishing opportunities? Please let myself and others know about the above. Thanks for getting this out there, Jake Bucki

Posts: 20230 Location: oswego, il | So there are six reports of muskies biting people from 1983-2014. One of those reports a 7' muskie! 8 reports of people being afraid of muskies because they thought one might have ate a loon or a duck and they have teeth. Bass and pike eat ducks, pike have teeth. I am sure there are more reports of pike bites to bring to the meeting. I remember my cousin swimming in Minnesota's woman lake when a perch bite off a tiny scab on his leg. Savage beasts!

Posts: 246 Location: Grand Marais, MN | I got bitten in the nips by bluegill on Pelican in august. Can we also get rid of them, too? wish i could make it, hope some of yous guys can. these people have the "i've already made up my decision so dont confuse me with the facts" mindset. We wont ever win them over or convince any of them. We just have to hope the state doesn't listen to em.

Posts: 203 Location: Alexandria, Minnesota | Make no mistake guys if we do not get a big turnout for this meeting we will lose these fisheries forever, which is complete joke because West Battle Lake was the first lake every stocked in the state of Minnesota, back in 1963. And believe Senator Ingebritsen is no friend of Muskies or Muskie Fishermen, he is actually the guy that wrote the bill that got Muskie Lakes opened up to spearing for the Dark House Association, and believe me he will not stop with these lakes he will come after each and every lake in the State of MN, because in his mind Muskies are a garbage fish and spearer's should be able to harvest them because what is the point of having a fish in a lake that you cannot harvest.... So please write him with you concerns but please be polite, we do not need to make a bigger enemy out of him than he already is, what we need to do is find a way to vote him out of office. Location: Contrarian Island | for those of us that live outside the area but like to fish muskies in MN please take the 2 minutes it takes to send an email to those Representatives listed above to show that you support the continued stocking, and point out how much money muskies bring to the state of MN ! Posts: 750 Location: Minneapolis, MN | I won’t be able to make it, but someone make sure to mention that Lake Harriet, Lake Calhoun, Lake of the Isle, and Cedar Lake all have muskies and are probably the busiest lakes in Minneapolis for beach goers. Add on top of that all of the of the lakes in the metro that also have heavy beach traffic in the summer, and yet I’m not aware of a single attack. Heck I fish for tigers on a small metro lake bordered on one side by a small college that people swim across on a regular basis.

Posts: 141 Location: Minnetonka | Do yourselves a favor and avoid reading the "horror" stories. I have saved you the time by preparing the Cliffs Notes. Ch. 1 - A lady bumps into a Zebra Mussel and cuts her leg. Ch. 2 - A now traumatized rescue yorkie was "playing" with a brood of wild ducks, and "almost" got eaten. Ch. 3 - A terrible parent scares the $h** out of her kids by telling them a big fish "probably" made the prop scar on the dead northern...they no longer want to swim. Ch. 4 - Some guy used to be able to harvest 150 walleyes each season and can no longer find tulibee to spear or net. Ch. 5 - Some guy "assumes" a muskie ate a baby loon. Ch. 6 - A poor lady didn't have enough room in her yard to bury a 48" muskie that washed ashore. Ch. 7 - The story climaxes with an 84" muskie attacking a girl in Wisconsin, 33 years ago. She "barely" escapes with minor scratches. It's an epic story, littered with sightings of monsters and the ever looming "possibility" that a child will be traumatized at the sight of one. All jokes aside, this is a serious matter and I will be writing to both representatives in support of continued stocking (I would be there if wasn't travelling that week), but we're up against some pretty compelling arguments. Location: Minneapolis, MN | Can you really win this by bringing numbers to a meeting? The elected officials are showing up because the opposition has their ear and has likely been working them over for several weeks with a false information propaganda campaign. Assuming that's correct, who can the muskie community put up as their face with a clear consistent message? How can that person get access to the elected officials prior to the meeting to do the real work that needs to be done - education with real unemotional, objective information, available from the experts? Trying to do that in a big room filled with emotionally charged people who have formed an opinion on ridiculous perceptions is going to be tough to come out with a win. Posts: 203 Location: Alexandria, Minnesota | Here is a thought guys, we are going to need at least 200 people to show up to this event to make our point loud and clear, and another thought is each every one of us should bring a $100 bill and when we are talking with Bill Ingerbritsen we should all hold up our $100 bills and let him know that all of the money $20,000 plus will go the coffers of his competition in the next election, unless he keeps his nose out of the DNR's Business. I mean the guy is the biggest hypocrite on the planet. this is a guy that hates Muskies because they are not native to some of these lakes, but always has his Pheasants forever sticker on the back of his truck, what does this moron think they flew here from China? Posts: 110 Location: Albertville, Minnesota | Quick question, how or why did West Battle get in the mix? I've been following the Pelican issue, but first I heard of Battle. This question was also sent to Bill. Also, I would assume DNR folks will be there to provide technical assistance to some of these ridiculous claims/anti-musky views?!?! Chris

Posts: 20230 Location: oswego, il | What Joe, luke chinewalker said is very important. Don't need 200 people yelling. Need a collective voice. I wish our one collective voice would get involved lime the nra does but they won't. There are plenty of arguments to overcome their lack of substance. It is as if we need a separate organization to combat these people.
