Location: Ohio | Okuma Citrix 364, okuma komodo 364 in low profile or Daiwa saltist levelwind. Daiwa is right handed only. Okumas come in both retrieves and are both low profile reels. You can get power handles on the Okumas also. I just went through this process and bought a used Komodo but haven't had a chance to throw it yet. |

Location: NE PA | If you want cheap, reliability is compromised for sure. I would have to agree with the above statements. The Saltist is the best budget 10 reel out there if you are good with your thumb. If not, maybe consider a used lexa 300 5.1 gear? |

Location: Minnesota | I sarted out with cheaper reels when I first started musky fishing they just did not last. Saved up bought a 400 TE reel is 15 years old and is still good as new. Quality may cost more at first but when there built to last in the long run there cheaper . So yes a used Tranx that is taking care of will save money in the long run just my 2 cents |

Location: minocqua, wi. | i have a 20 ... only 2 negatives ... 1. lever disengage, 2. engages in the first rotation ... takes about a half hour to get over them. they are great reels.
if you are a lefty, the believable word for the best speed double 10 reel is the Avet as stated above ... i don't believe they have a level wind but someone may be able to confirm. |

Location: Ohio | I have an avet sx and mxl. They are bullet proof but they don't have a level wind. I think this would get annoying over a days time. I picked them both up used for around 100 on ebay and rebuilt them |

| I have a 40 size saltiest and its a levelwind and 2 abu Garcia 7000 pro rockets both work great. the 7000 are 4:1:1 ratio and the saltiest is 6:4:1 ratio their not to expensive brand new. Got the saltist at a lure swap for $80. Both reels are strong and well made IMO. |

975 was my big blade reel for quite a while. Blew out the levelwind this season (just needs a pawl), and it is in need of a new drive gear/pinion gear. I fished that thing hard for 7 seasons, and I can fix everything that's wrong with it for about $30.
No complaints. I could throw it in the trash and I still got my money's worth out of it. |

I actually don't find this to be much of a negative. It does take about 20 minutes of "getting used to". But I do like the first rotation engage. I never worry about the reel engaging on the cast like I've had on other reels. In general I find the handle is right where it needs to be when I go to engage. |

Location: Ohio | OK after reading this I'm thinking if you want a round reel the Ambassadeur 7000 is the cheapest coming in around $100. If you are looking low profile, the Okuma Citrix 350 is the cheapest at around $125. There's frequently a lot of higher $ reels on sale used in the forums and on ebay for $150-$200 like Revo Toros etc and with the new Toro line coming out, there should be good availability of used high end Toros I think as people upgrade to the Beast and S models. |

Location: Minnesota | I have a few 7000iC3 reels that I have used for a long time. They are great reels but aren't exactly built for burning tens. When I want, I can pick up the speed and burn but I am reeling pretty fast. They handle tens just fine but the huge line pick up just isn't there with the standard gear ratios. So a great reel for the money but don't plan on burning tens all day.

Penn 975? um ok if you want to slow roll them...but if you want to actually reel them fast...Saltist 20. Or save up a bit more dough and find a used tranx for 350 ... they are the best reel bar none. |
