Im real close to buying one soon but I'm still on the fence.

I want a 24volt with Ipilot and fish LSC so it think an 80lb with 60 shaft will do fine. I have a 2000 FishHawk 1650.

Help me decide please

that is plenty of motor for that boat..I run the 80 lb terrova on a Ranger 690, much heavier rig... works great....foot pedal is retardo, but one thing you can do if you are a "pulser" is to cut a square from wood or something the same size as the pulse button and screw it on top of it so you don't hit the left and right arrows when you go to tap it... those not so smart engineers at MK should have thought of that before releasing that pedal.

I HATE the Terrova foot pedal. Not bad if you're fishing during the day but after dark....I'm hitting every button except the one I want. I put electrical tape over the power and auto pilot lights since they're so blinding. I looked at the new Ulterra foot pedal and could imagine myself going in circles with a trolling motor going up and down after dark....no thanks.

add the riser to the pulse ...also add Glow Tape to that...I can fish at night and not have to look at the foot pedal now w the riser added and it works great....

I just bought a 55# for my 17ft bass boat. Plenty of power and the best thing I have added to the boat! I think the foot pedal is light years better then the crappy ones on the Powerdrive. Not sure if you have a friend at Cabelas but they are/were having a friends and fam discount. Saved me a couple hundred.

I'm actually the opposite of some of you guys...I still prefer and only use the "powerdrive" settings on the pedal, and I hate touching the "Maxxum" part of it....

It's a solid TM. I don't know if it comes standard, but highly advise getting it with the remote that goes around your neck so you can run it wherever you want.

Brian, I only use the bottom part too... wish they made an optional foot pedal like an old PD foot pedal as i only use left right and go

The Terrova is great for the lake. One of my buddies that I fish with has one on his 18' Crestliner & it works great for the lake. I just don't like using it in the river though.

That will plenty of motor for that boat. I have the same one with a larger boat. The new auto pilot feature is so nice when fishing a windward shoreline in a big blow. So much easier to control the boat than the original autopilot system. That alone made it worth it for me. The spot lock is also really nice once you get one in the bag. Buy it, you won't regret it.

I use the foot pedal to steer and the remote to control speed. I'm not a pulser though. For those that pulse, do you do it so you can turn it off when your bait is getting to the boat so you don't spook the fish?

Right...I am mostly ok with the pedal...it's a little bulky and takes up more room then I would prefer, but it seems more durable than the old PD pedals.

every time I, or someone else usually, hits that stupid Maxxum part it starts going nuts...I never understood how guys could use those types of pedals. You are basically putting most of your weight on one leg, while still needing to stay focused on fishing and sometimes while getting tossed around in sizable waves...noooo thanks

I like my terrova pedal, dont run into many issues, except the roller for the power setting.. Tap left tap right works awesome.

I have the 80 lb Terrova w/iPilot on a Tracker ProGuide V16, which is about the same size as your boat, I think. PLENTY of power: I can get up to 3.5 mph at full speed; have no trouble in the St. Clair River/Detroit River channels moving up-current or maintaining position. The iPilot makes it super easy to control in crosswinds or current compared to my non-iPilot previous Minnkota. I use the iPilot remote for control because the foot pedal isn't as usable as I'd like it to be, but it's there if both my hands are busy. Recommended.

I also have a Terrova and love it. At first I thought it might not be worth the money but I was wrong! The spot lock is great, auto pilot works well plus I got the link for following the contour, which in my opinion is the best feature. because you just set the depth line you want to follow and it will keep you pretty close. The only bad thing is if the contours on the gps aren't accurate you may be in the wrong depth but that can be offset as well.
Overall it's a good trolling motor and I would recommend it

Terrova can only interface with hummingbird, right? And I believe powerdrive is Lawrence. How does the top flight powerdrive compare to the Terrova? I have an old outdated trolling motor so I cant weigh in, but If you have a fishfinder preference it might be more about that than the motor itself if the motors are comparable.

My Tuffy 1760 came with an 80 pound Terrova and I like it. I used to have a 70 pound Powerdrive on an Alumacraft Navigator 165 and it was more than enough power for that boat. 80 will easily be plenty for your rig.

I liked my powerdrive fine, and felt like I didn't really need autopilot, etc, especially since I take boat control pretty seriously and am always making fine adjustments. Well, I really like the Terrova and the features it has. Autopilot lets me adjust direction only 1/2 as much as I did before, and can come in handy in some big wind conditions where it was hard to even balance and operate the Powerdrive at times. Spot lock is pretty neat, especially for fishing for other species, having lunch, tying knots, etc.

I could fish without a Terrova now if I had to, but I wouldn't really want to. I like the pedal. It's taking a little while to get used to where the buttons are at night, but mine had Glowin' Outdoors strips on it which help out.

Terrova and Powerdrive are both Minnkota products and both work the easiest with Humminbird. I'm pretty sure an adapter cable can be used to use the universal sonar with a Lowrance though.

Pretty sure only Humminbird will work with the I-Link features though.

Yep, too slow to react when your boat gets pushed off course from the boat wakes.

I hate the Terrova and powerdrive for muskie fishing. In my opinion boat control absolutely sucks with minn kota electric steer (especially if its windy). I cant see having anything but cable steer. I had a powerdrive and got rid of it right of way. My buddie had a terrova and got rid of that for cable steer too. That being said The electric steers do have great features. Spot lock is awesome and I wish I could have it with my cable steer. For walleye fisherman I could see electric being better. Its a no brainer for me though with the cable steer over electric.

I can't speak for the terrova, but cable vs power drive is an easy choice. Power all the way, I hated being cuffed to the foot pedal on cable. My dad really likes his terrova, loves spot lock.

^^^ I'm in the same boat as you, but mainly because you let me run the Terrova in your old boat so thus you introduced me to the system. I love it, but can only comment on my bass fishing.

I got the same Terrova 24v with #80 in May, and the Ipilot remote is excellent to have on you at all times. Have extra coin batteries though. I use the remote about 75% of the time (mainly to conserve the pedal because I know they tend to break or malfunction) but when it gets windy I have a better feel for boat control with the bottom half of the pedal.

Night fishing ----- forget about the remote unless you wear head lamp..... lighted screen or keys would have been a useful feature for this.

Don't trust the spot-lock via. remote in wind also. The constant turning of the troller for gps positioning will cause the head to get strangled by wires.

My iPilot remote has a backlight; you press that button with a light bulb on it, just below the jackrabbit. Lighted keys would be nice, though, since you have to find the button in the dark.

As for batteries, my original remote ate through batteries at an astonishingly rapid rate; just a couple of weeks, or less. Other peoples' lasted much longer, so I called MinnKota (within the warranty period) and they sent me a new one. I've been using the same battery since last Fall now and it's still going strong.

I have seen the umbilical get wrapped once around the shaft many times when Spot Locked, but I've also seen the motor unwrap itself to prevent it from wrapping around twice.

I've got a Terrova and will soon upgrade to the Ulterra. I don't think I've used the foot pedal in about 3 years. I use the remote pretty much exclusively.

wired pedal and slow response make me more interested in the Motorguide.

Brian ... i have been in boats with guys who steer with the right and left buttons and with guys who try to use constant on and have yet to see them able to really handle boat control on a spot. and to this i mean really good total position control. the foot control is still the best way to smoothly run a boat in and out, keep the butt end in the casting zone etc... some things you just can't do without it. when my foot is on the pedal it's not even a thought, the foot is trained and part of the boat. it does require a good relationship with a chiropractor though.

the anchor button is the only thing that attracts me to the new motors ... looks like a great thing to have if you have a fish in the bag.

I don't doubt there is a little more accuracy when running the Maxxum style pedal.....but I'll take 80% effectiveness rather than hopping around on one leg while my knee feels like it has double weight on it.

I do enjoy the cord system for pulling up the motor though

Terrova with ipilot link is awesome! I use mostly features from a simple ipilot except with link I can see where the trolling motor is pointed. That allows me while fishing hundreds of yards off shore to make pinpoint casts. As far as wind and people having issues I don't understand that. I use the autopilot feature all the time but NOT the advanced mode but I like the classic. Because I can set the outboard in a direction and pull via magnetic direction and drift slowly keeping me on the target with only touching the controls every couple minutes. Foot steering is a great thing for dock fishing bass or in the woods.

I've owned 3 Terrova's (several boats) starting from the first year they were available. Good unit... But as already mentioned the pedal design could be greatly enhanced (to be kind).. I'm a "pulser" - I have a very coordinated big toe now .. I don't think the controls are too slow at all but then again my big tub of a boat doesn't get pushed off course in heavy wind easily and I anticipated it moving at all and make the proper adjustment.. I don't understand how you muskie fish with a remote only, especially in the wind?

I learn something new every day. I was wondering what that bulb icon was......

Thank you!

PS - Mr. Nelson, I like your tip/modification for adding a riser to the bottom accelerator button. I will try the same for my night fishing.
