Posts: 439 Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | Welcome to July! We now have our first bigger bunch of muskie boats in camp this week so I should be able to get some intel on conditions and activity. There has been some fish in both shallow, weedy bays as well as rock structures. Bucktails have also started to produce from follows and strikes. Several big girls spotted already in the short time since people arrived for the week on Saturday. A nice 47 was landed right off the bat Saturday evening on a bucktail in a saddle with sands, weeds and boulders. Cold front came through after a Saturday night and Sunday afternoon set of t-storms. Water temps were well over 70 in the shallows, but will cool a bit the next day or two with a air temp high of 63 in the forecast. Keep your baits in the water! J-Man

Posts: 439 Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | The more the merrier! One million acres can handle a hand full of muskie nuts and then some. I can't be out harassing them so might as well have an army doing it for me. Good luck to all!

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | bigwegs - 7/8/2015 9:00 AM Justin, Any update on the fishing this week? I will be up on Friday. Thanks!! We've been pounding rocks pretty hard. Did a little shallow weedy stuff but it didn't yield much. Been a few tough days with the cold front followed by blue bird skies with light wind. Found a few active ones tonight on topwater. Pre-cold front had two on blades right away. Post-cold front they've shut down on blades so far and prefer suicks and cranks during the day. Fish moved on topraider and weagle tonight. Back out tomorrow. Trolling motor almost went in the drink today, which cut into fishing time a bit. Walleyes have come fairly easily on jigs off of humps. Plastics work fine.

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | Been a tough week. Hardly seeing fish chase at all. Fish we contact are eating or trying to. We've got more in the boat than we've had follows. Haven't seen or caught squat today. In for a fish fry then back out.

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | Today.....sucked. Managed one dink and saw one other fish. Dink came on a spinner bait right tight to the reeds. Follow came in super low and slow on a suick. Through a crank all day as well to no avail. Fished rocks and weeds. Even the walleyes quit. I did manage a crayfish on a jig though!

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | No idea. They're probably just mad that I'm here. Once I cross the border back to the US they'll fire right up.

Posts: 897 | Make a big move and try another area of the lake. We frequently have multiple boats on the trips I go on and you'd be surprised at how some days they go in one area of the lake but not another.

Ah yes, i am familiar with this as well. You have to throw them a change up like we did last year, came in a few days early, and those were the best days we had. Day we were originally supposed to arrive was terrible! so were the following two days, cold, rain, totally shut down the fishing... I do agree with taking a long drive somewhere though. I was talking to VMS on this board last year, who was there the same time i was, but was at the northwest angle. He wasnt doing much over that way at all, where i was at least seeing and catching a few.. Dont give up!

Posts: 78 | Don't feel bad that is Canada sometimes. Our week during opener I went three days without catching any then solid days when it was warm.. Then the last day I went to a nearby bay and some other amatuer guys went to a bay near camp and they caught 15 in a few hours yet I hardly saw #*#*

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | We packed it in. Found a spot that looked like it was designed by a musky guy to attract a giant. Islands, rocks, sand, saddle, green weeds, wind blown main lake point, current, etc. All that was missing was Mrs Musky. I had an absolutely amazing time, despite the tough fishing. Justin at Mylies runs a great camp, and I'm extremely grateful he found us a spot to camp. Normally we go to Wabigoon, but the place we used to go made no effort to work with is. I emailed Justin and asked if he had any room, knowing full well he was likely full up. Sure enough, the camp was full. But Justin let us put up a tent, pretty much right in his back yard. I will undoubtedly be back to Mylies, and I encourage those who are considering LOTW to head to Mylies. Back to work on Monday....but only for a week, then off to Eagle River. Good luck to those headed up this weekend, and you can thank me for leaving as the fish are sure to fire up!
