| For two years now Ive tried to snag a 10 inch plastic suick at a swap meet,,,I go to alot of the shows and muskie club swapmeets probably a dozen since 2014 and have never seen a one!!!!
They must work great and pull true you guys aint getting rid of em!!! Guess I 'll have to buy a retailer at the Thorne bros annual sale.

Location: Wisconsin | I like them a lot. They run well and hold up much better than the wood ones. I got rid of my wood ones and upgraded to the HI. Buy a few and you will like them. |

Pity I didn't think to include a shot of the H.I. Suick (Wild Sucker) in that pic. of my PB 54 last July 15th. I was pretty pumped...
Buy one - or some! I have a whole box full of Suicks now. I don't have enough time left to wear them all out but - I'll sure try.

Location: Minnesota. | Nope, my son was fishing with me. He's pretty the intense/worrying type. When he netted her he let out this big sigh and said "Man, she's in!" and wanted to go back to the cabin.
I said "Noooo..still got an hour or so of daylight. Keep pitching." Two mins later he says "Dad, ummm, ya know -- I got so excited I forgot all about squeezing the tail!" We joshed a good bit (the dad thing) and he says "If you keep giving me crap I'm telling everyone back on the dock that she was a 52!!"
Good kid. I told him just this week it's his turn this year.

| The two I have fish well, more like the weighted wooden ones. Catch fish very well. But my one complaint is that the finish on the two I have started flaking off after not much use. |

| I like both plastic and weighted wood suicks. Both have their advantages. My old beat up wood suicks work great for deeper slow retrieves letting it it hang. The plastic suicks work great for faster erratic retrives. They also seem to run truer and more consistent than wood. |

If you are 1 out of 3 or 4 with the wood models, you really seriously need to learn how to tune a Suick. I have never yet met one I can't make dance, and I've been at this for awhile. |

Location: Waukee, IA | I have 0 problems with the wood suicks. Some run one way or the other out of the package, but that's easily fixed by adjusting the tail or eye screw. I actually like the misbehaving ones because they tend to have more side to side walking than the "perfect" ones that dive and rise in a straight line. |

Me too, they look erratic (erotic??) in the water. Not much trouble and I'm new-ish to them, mainly last year.
Last year some fellow at our dock had issues with a few of his not behaving as he wanted. He had the ends of both fins bent down like "tabs" and I suggested he hammer them flat and adjust with a slight bend this way or that. Sometimes a slight "twist" even, whatever it takes. An' I ain't too handy...!!
Fixed his though. Maybe I'm just lucky. *G*

Most of the time the folks I run in to who claim they can't get Suicks to run are either overworking them or underworking them.
Use the reel as much as the rod.

| I have had no trouble getting wood or plastic suicks to run the way I want. I find the plastic need less tuning and getting suicks to perform is on the user and using their reel. |

| I picked up the HI suick last year, first D&R I ever really seriously fished. That thing dances like a champ. I just bent the tail at a slight angle and that was all that was needed. I know tradition is a big part of this sport, but that bait works great. |

Steve, here's a story. I watched your video on this site. I tuned a new Suick last year like your video shows. No joke, within 5 mins I had a fish come up and slap it over a weed bed. So obviously, the video works...and the fish like it. Like you say in the video about guys who just pull (like i had done for 15+ years), "That's not wrong, and you'll catch fish...". However, the way your video shows it is just money. But here's my question...
...later in the trip I was casting against some wind with the same Suick. I got a backlash, and the bait stopped dead mid-air. The Suick wouldn't work anymore, and upon inspection it turned out the screw eye had come "loose". I used some Gorilla glue to "tighten" the screw eye back in. Now, no matter what i do (fool with tail, bend the screw eye, etc)...I cannot get this Suick to run like it did previously.  Any suggestions? |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Start with the tail absolutely straight. Bend just one corner down, about 1/8 of an inch, add a bit of a downward bend for the entire tail. Make sure the screw eye is straight to begin this. Make sure all the hook hangers are not bent up. Make sure you are using the same leader you were using, a heavier or lighter one might cause you to re-tune.
Tune from there; hope this helps! |

| Over the years, I have a few wood ones that don't run exactly how I want, but they still look good. I have one plastic one, that I cannot get right. I've watched the videos, etc, and tried for over an hour to get it to run, but no luck. I'm sure its operator error. I have other plastic ones that run great. |

Also home-made 14-15" supple wire twisted/melted together with (big _ss) AHL snaps and BB swivels. Nothing special. |

| I've used a 130# Flouro with a snap. I guess if I really wanted to take the leader out of the equation I could use my homemade flouro glider leader which only has a welded ring, but that really hasn't been necessary. |

| Gotta have the right split ring that moves around in the eyelet if it's to tight it will kill the action. I can get all my suick to fish like a glider under the water big turns each way |

Location: Elroy, Wisconsin | Pretty hard to get a Suick to run wrong with the right size split ring in the nose. Got to visit with old Frank once, great experience. First thirty or so muskies I caught were on wood Suicks weighted with .22 bullets. Couple of Suicks and couple good bucktails and your all set.

Location: Land of the Musky | I have over 30 wood Suicks and love all of them. I can tune anyone I want to do what I want. I do have a few of the new plastic Suicks and those are more consistent for my tuning.... They are also tougher IMO. Love both. One of my favorite lures is a weighted 9" Suick!!! Deadly for pike in Canada. |
