Posts: 617 Location: Clintonville, WI | It’s baaaack. Welcome to 2015 MuskieFIRST MatchFishing! Although a participant in MatchFishing for several years in the past, I'm new to the organizational aspect of it. I've been tasked with getting this thing started. *** There is more to come in terms of the set up and a lot of it is predicated on particpation #s and how smoothly the sign up is going. There will be a MatchFishing forum set up for ease of process so be patient. In the meantime, get a team set up per the rules and get ready to fish! ___________________________________________________________________ Teams will be assigned to one of four pools, North/South/East/West, depending on their general home location. Over the course of May - August each team is expected to fish a minimum of three “matches” against teams in their pool. Points are awarded depending on the outcome of the match: win, lose, or tie. At the end of the pool round, the team with the most points wins the pool and moves on to the playoff rounds starting in September and finishing with the MatchFishing Championship in October. Participation is FREE, and there is a short list of requirements: 1. The group expects a commitment to participate in all respects – this was historically the biggest challenge and mostly why this went by the wayside. 2. You must have the ability to provide judges with digital pictures of your results 3. Respect the spirit of the event. The idea of MatchFishing is to incent getting out on the water with friends/family, to have fun and to have friendly competition. 4. Don’t cheat. 5. Don’t be “Richards” (the term my kids and I use in our house so as to not offend my wife’s sensibilities). RULES --------------------------------- Teams: A team consists of one or two fishermen, fishing with each other from one boat at the same time. Teams may not have three people in the boat at any time during a match. If one of the team members is unavailable, a substitute may fill in, but one of the people fishing must be a team member. Professional fishing guides are welcome to participate as competitors in MatchFishing with their own team, but teams may not hire a paid guide as a substitute team member. In this set-up thread, please post a reply with the following: your team name / team location (i.e. OH, WI, WV, etc.) / names of team members / contact phone #s for each member / e-mail for each member / required two dates (minimum) for fishing availability. Matches: A match consists of two teams fishing against each other ON THE SAME DAY. Teams may fish different waters, but all fishing by both teams must take place between 12:00 am and 11:59 pm on the day of the scheduled match. For example…..A South team on vacation at LOTW can fish against another South team on vacation at Mille Lacs as long as it is on the same day. ***Three is the minimum number of matches everyone must fish because we will be counting each team’s best three matches in determining the Pool winners. Since we are anticipating enough teams for four pools of four teams each, you will be required to fish against all three teams and all three matches will count. If we get a lot of participation and pools have more than four teams, you may choose to fish against every team, but only your top three match results will be counted. For example, let’s say a Pool has seven teams (A/B/C/D/E/F/G). Team A in the Pool schedules its first three matches against B/C/D and wins all three with a 35” fish each match. They may elect to not fish against the other three teams and let it ride. Team B may have lost to Team A but elects to fish all five other teams and beats E/F/G with a 36” fish each match. Team B would beat Team A. This twist does provide for an element of strategy but is primarily there to incent fishing as much as possible. Each team has until 12:00 pm (noon) the day after their match to submit photos and results. The date/time received on our cell phones and/or email will be the official record so make sure you send them as soon as you can after your match. Teams failing to report results by then will not be given points for any fish they may have caught that day. No exceptions. We will place results and images in the 2015 MatchFishing Reports Thread. That thread will be locked. No other reports will be allowed. DO NOT POST YOUR OWN RESULTS in another forum! Photos and results must be sent to: Andrew Golden (Slamr) [email protected] (847) 989-9271 Mike Morse (BigMo) [email protected] (920) 213-0898 No rematches are allowed during the pool play rounds. Each match will be scored according to the results on the day of the match: win, lose, or tie. Scheduling: As long as you are fishing water on or after its seasonal opening date, Pool matches can begin at Midnight May 2, 2015 and must conclude by 11:59 pm August 31, 2015. When each team signs up, they are required to provide two days during each of the months of June/July/August that they guarantee they will be available to fish a match. Teams will not be entered into MatchFishing until they provide these dates. If another team in their pool challenges them (by posting it online) to fish on one of the days they provided, the match will take place on that day unless both teams agree to change it. If a team is a “no-show” on an agreed upon match date, the match still counts. The absent team will simply receive 0 points. Please be flexible and do everything you can to schedule matches and honor the commitments, or communicate with other teams for rescheduling. 90+ days should be more than enough to get Pool matches in. There were some issues in the past with anglers that had an odd schedule for work and/or life; for example, those that are able to fish a lot from Mondays-Thursdays. Everyone has to be flexible and put the effort into making the scheduling work. Again, 90+ days should be sufficient to make pool play work. Items: Once a match is scheduled, teams will be assigned an item of some sort. This item must be visible in a picture taken with any muskies they catch on the day of the match. We will try to make it unique and interesting. The judges will provide items via MuskieFirst, text, e-mail or cell call no sooner than one day before the match. Failure to include the item in the photograph disqualifies that fish from scoring points. No exceptions. Items will not be given out early under any circumstance. Scoring: Points for Qualifying Fish: Minimum size of 35” 35” = 5 points every 1” above that earns 1 point any ½” is rounded up Points for Pool Standings: 2 points for the team that wins the match 1 point for each team if there is a tie (equal points for all qualifying fish caught) 1 point for a losing team if they participate in a scheduled match (must be supported by each team with a photo with the item shown) 0 points for losing a match for non-participation in a scheduled match. The team with the highest point total wins the pool. Tie-breaker for winning the pool will be largest fish caught during pool play. Playoff Rounds: The winner of each pool will advance to the playoff round. Each team will be seeded according to their FISH POINT total from Pool play. #1 will fish head-to-head versus #4, #2 will fish head-to-head versus #3. The first Playoff Round (semi-final) clock will begin at Midnight on September 1, 2015. These two matches must be completed by 11:59 pm on September 30, 2015. The winners of the Playoff Round will advance to the Championship. The Championship period is Midnight October 1, 2015 through 11:59 pm on October 31, 2015. During the playoff round and championship, rematches will be allowed in the case of ties until one team wins. If neither team is able to win a match before the end of the time allowed, total Fish Points from all qualified matches will determine the winner.

Posts: 617 Location: Clintonville, WI | Teams that signed up in this thread, please check your e-mail. You are the 12 teams competing in 2015. The rules and general information have been updated in a document I attached to the message. The 12 teams entered happen to be split 4 each from WI / IA / MN. So, I changed the pool set up. We will be having a battle of the states for bragging rights! Until a Forum is set up for MatchFishing, please post the matches you have set up in this thread. Regulation where you are/will be permitting, matches may start this Saturday May 2 @ Midnight. Have at it.............and have fun! Mike Morse / BigMo

Posts: 1039 Location: North St. Paul, MN | bucknuts, I'm a teacher and have lots of flexibility July and August. If your flexible we can fish midweek at some point this summer. Set it up with specifics as we get closer to those months and we can bounce a few midweek days off each other, if you're okay with that? Steve
