Which one would it be?
Been using 6501's for years with no issues.
Easy to care for and keep in top shape.
Had a big girl on with drag cranked all the way down and I still had to thumb reel.
Would like to keep it under $300.
Thanks in advance for suggestions.

I haven't used them all, but have had experience with a few. From my experience, I'd take a Revo Toro 60 NACL with the 5.4 gear ratio. Fits my hands well, the double paddle handle is nice if you like them, and I like the Power Handle with 2 length settings. Feels smooth, solid, and powerful. 26" line pickup is neither fast or slow. It's pretty light and doesn't weigh a light rod down.

Shimano CalcuttaB is a nice reel under your budget too but I'd take the Revo over that. The Calcutta D would probably compete with the Revo but I've never used one.

Love my 401D. The only negative is the disengaging level-wind. You learn pretty quick to somewhat center the line guide before casting and that is a non-issue for me now. Otherwise it is an awesome all around reel. Mine has been in perfect working order from the first to last day of the season the last two years. I have several 6501's too and typically can't say the same about them. The good thing is those are easy to fix.

Love my NaCls, I have one of each speed but if I was forced to choose I'd also go with the 5.4

Daiwa Luna 300 I've tried the Revo's and the 400D but keep going back to the Luna. Nothing else lasts as long that i've used...easy to work on..just replace the roller clutch every other year and you will get many seasons on them. And below your price range.

Reels Ive owned in the last couple years. LEXA 400pwr, LEXA 300HSp. Shimano Curado 300e, TranX HG, NACL 50 6.4, NACL 60 5.4. and used a 400b for a few hours.
I would say the NACL 60 5.4 is the best all around reel.

Curado 300ej or e with power handle. It has the feel and comfort of a bass reel and I can throw any bait I want with it. What's not to like about it.

I only have one but mine is smooth and quiet on the cast, retrieve, everything. Hoping to pick up a 2nd this year.

I'm with curleytail. Bought a HS NACL last year and am saving up now to buy a 5.4 NACL to replace my C3.

401TE. I have a few of them so as long as Shimano continues to make parts and Pikemaster does his magic I won't need another reel.

Revo, comfy to hold all day, casts a mile, good drag, durable, can throw anythig with it, smooth and quiet, and brings the skis in to ya. Imo.

Shimano. Actual model...just pick based on your budget. In this case a 400B or Curado 300E.

Toro 60 5.4:1. It is not even close. Just do yourself a favor and take out the drag clicker.

If people think the toros are loud cast a lexa or curado side by side. They are the smoothest of the bunch. I've got 5 nacls and haven't had any problems with them or the clickers

What are the benefits of removing it?
