Location: Sycamore, IL | The little 5" Bakers will also get a good wander to them if you are looking for a deep shad type of profile. I have had good luck with the Ziggie baits and Supernatural baits as well. |

Ideally a scatter rap style super shad rap but they don't exist. The scatter hammer sounds like it's the perfect match. |

| we build a 6 inch wire thru that walks and hammers hard. not the standard wobble. here on st clair the fish have seen thousands of shad styles. we make them also. but the bigger fish do get schooled.. either way remember don't limit your bait action by using too short or too hard leaders on poundage. that restricts the baits movement no matter whicjh baitmaker builds it. |

What leaders to you suggest?
I use Stealth Trolling Leaders (36 inches I believe) with 100-150 lb test. Is that okay with Headlocks or do you think it is restricting the bait from wandering? |

| larger pounding baits 36 is fine. for smaller baits 5-7 we troll 5ft leaders. this also allows an inline weight if needed to achieve more depths. .. also on leaders use snaps that allow the bait free will. some snaps angle in ward and once again restrict swing. . as you can gather ive been a troller here on lsc all my life lol. |

| I am surprised no one has mentioned Drifters double and triple D. They are very versatile, you can jerk, twitch or walk deep or shallow. I have had a lot of success in post-frontal situations. |

The DD and DDD do not hunt like what was asked. Great baits as you mentioned though. Watch the video of the Pelagic if you don't know what "hunt" means.
Countdown sharks on the shallow setting will hunt on the cast. Add the same lip from the countdown shark to a ciscokid and it will also hunt. |

| I'm an amateur with lures, so is it the lip that makes a bait "hunt" or kick out more? It seems from the video the Pelagic has a very similar lip as a Headlock/Supernatural. |

| when we get into bait styles lip angles theres great variances on whats a walk or wobble. every part of a musky season differs. shallow baits mid-range and deeper divers. lip angles lip shapes all come into play. . funny early season here we run bigger baits 3 weeks in as waters warm we head to 5-6 inch hi vibration baits up hi. then peak summer its faster speeds and the walk . in fall its the slo wobble. remember aalso the baits gotta be in the strike zone threshold. theres times big fish wont chase..aint this fun after over 5 decades chasin these ornery fish they still humble the best at any given time . |

Location: Money, PA | Key factors to a walking bait you ask? Lots of trial and error! The perfect combination of body shape/size, lip angle, lip shape/style, weight and action all have to come together at once....what actually creates that wonder, walk or hunt? I don't actually know specifically...I did find that most round shaped lips create a walk. Square lips tend to dig.
The scatter hammer comes in all of my models now, but the straights certainly "hunt" more than the jointeds. They are a perfect casting bait as well due to less drag and yes they walk when retrieved steady, slowly or fast. Thanks.
