I just agreed to buy a new to me Ranger 619!!! Just worried the wife will kill me...

How to break the news to the lady? Any advice? I was thinking of doing it in public and with diamonds so she cant kill me or at least there are witnesses

Tell her it's mine but I have no where to keep it so your going to look after it for me.
or just tell her it followed you home and you don't have the heart to turn it back out into the cold.
maybe you won it in a lottery
you found it in the classifieds and they were selling it really cheap because it belonged to a musky fisherman and they couldn't get the smell out of it.

When i was a kid my dad used to sneak every new shotgun and rifle he bought into the house. He would wait til my mom wasn't around and then come find me and call me down to the basement to show off his newest double or high grade rifle and always finished with "but don't tell your mom." One day he was at work and my mom said to me very matter of fact, "your dad got a new shotgun yesterday." I tried to act surprised and said, " oh?" And then she said something I'll never forget, "I don't know why he keeps sneaking them into the house. He works so hard and he's always careful with our finances. If he wants a new shotgun, well good for him."

I guess my point is that sometimes we need to give our spouses a little more credit for being understanding. I've learned to be very honest with my wife and she has almost always taken the same line my mom had... "well you work hard and you know if we can do this, so go ahead."

Good luck breaking the news...and enjoy that sweet new ride.

XXXXXXXX Tell her your just looking at it as the guy that has it, looks like he will have to sell it to pay some bills. Tell her if you have your own boat, that you can get a good deal on your boat that will cover a good deal of price on the new boat. and your boat is going to need some new stuff and repair and this is a great time to get into a much safer boat as you would like to fish some bigger water. Give her a chance to give you her the ok on it. Good luck that's my story and I am sticking to it. Marv.

Hopefully there's enough room on the front deck for your sleeping bag and pillow....that's where I'd be sleeping if I tried this. LOL.

I guess I could update the group... It didn't go well... I may be sleeping on the front deck along with mans best friend to keep warm...
She was more upset about the lack of communication while boat shopping than the price tag to go along with it. If I were to do this again I would explain months ago why I wanted to spend $$ vs $ and what more I can get in a boat by paying the extra. I had a nice boat and I think the sudden selling and quickly buying was the issue. Round 2 of the argument will commence this evening and I will be sure to update all on the the events. Either way the boat will be in the garage in a week or two.

Wish me luck!

You better get 2 more dogs. With what the weather is going to be, it's going to be a "Three Dog Night".

FYI It took allot of reasoning when I wanted to by my skeeter. Fortunately it coincided with refinancing my house and with the lower interest rate I got I was able to cut 5 years of house payments, pay off 2 vehicles and half the boat and not pay anymore per month on the house. If it wasn't for that it probably been no go.

Never would of got away with what you did though...or have you gotten away with it yet?

Paul, good luck it's cold outside.

You'll be sleeping on the couch for a week at best. I did the same thing last year and bought a new Skeeter.

Mad for a week but all is forgotten!

Congrats. And it sounds like you've already learned that important life lesson: it's always better to ask your wife for forgiveness, rather than permission.

I survived until morning

All is well as long as this doesn't impact or goals of home ownership in the next 1-2 years. It does reduce the down payment we would have available but I believe all will be well.

I say buy the toys...home ownership isnt all its cracked up to be. As long as you have a roof over your head who cares??? If you're and outdoorsman you spend the least amount of your time at home anyways!

Agreed bdog and we aren't sure how long we will be in the current area so if we did buy a home we would lose money potentially on that investment. Hoping to settle down in one area for 5-10 years minimum before the house option is on the table.
Once I pick her up I will post pictures of the boat. Of course you can disregard the spare blanket and pillow on the front deck. Just in case

Good luck man. When I upgraded from a Lund Pro-V w/a 50HP Yammy to a Ranger 681 VS w/a 115 Yammy I told her it was cause the kids were too big to ski behind the "50" any longer.

Worked nicely!

Got a 150 now! (don't ask!)

think ahead. Your gonna need a rider mower to speed up home owner chores so it doesnt take away from fishing. dont forget to get a HUGE garage too. Really all you need is a big closet for her ,her own bathroom and a decent kitchen. the rest should be garage.

Take whatever price you spent on the boat. Expect to have to spend that amount of money on stuff that she wants that you could care less about before you ever hear the end of it.
