put an attachment onto your post. I know what you are talking about though. There are many stories of guys who would shoot their muskie (supposedly common practice years ago) and end up with a hole in their boat. just deserts huh? |

| Could this be where the term Muskie Hunter came from? The word hunter isn't use with any other fish except the Shark. |

| After reading alot of old stories of fishing muskie in the past I found that it was a common belief at the time that muskie were as dangerous as a wild animal and would attack or bite as a reaction to being caught. Many old anglers would not allow a live muskie in their boat for this reason. Another reason for shooting them at the time was a lack of good landing nets made for large fish. I believe the regulations allowing shooting of muskie was legal until 1967 or 68. How times do change! |

Location: Washington, PA | Believe it or not, I was talking with a friend who told me that he fished for muskies a few times, but he gave me "advice" to always keep a 22 with me because they would bite you to pieces. Needless to say, I doubt he's much of a threat to the local muskie population. I got a pretty good chuckle over it. |

Location: Holly, MI | Last summer I was in Alaska on a halibut charter. A 150 lb fish after being shot in the head with buckshot and spending a half hour in the box started acting up and flipped the lid off the 5 foot x 4 foot fiberglass fish box. It still had plenty of power left. Fortunatly it didn't "bite us to pieces" |
