Posts: 1663 Location: Kodiak, AK | ....no crazy halibut flies this time. These guys are headed to Wisconsin waters... All about 12" long, tandem hooks. And UV being the rage, I included a pic of them under UV light. From top, walleye, white, bright perch, natural perch. Dunno if the UV works, but it looks good when lit up! Location: North Metro, MN | Sweet, nicely done! I don't fly fish but love the way they look and action in water. I tie up ones that look like a fly but are heavy enough to cast on smaller baitcasters. I know it takes a lot to add all the material and make em look that good! If you don't mind sharing, where do you get your feathers from? Msg. me if you want

Posts: 1663 Location: Kodiak, AK | Chico, it depends on what I'm tying. If I'm tying a smaller fly or don't want to take the time to use saddles, I'll just use strung hackle. These are all off the saddle, and I get saddles from a lot of places. I still pay top dollar at fly shops and online for full saddles to get what I want. Some muskie shops are carrying them now too, like Michigan Muskie Shop. The feather-in-the-hair style is starting to subside and the market supply is returning. I do also have a couple of sources I get them from, from time to time. But they're all personal sources I've stumbled across over the last decade or so.

Great flies, what size hooks?

Posts: 1663 Location: Kodiak, AK | 8/0 front, 6/0 rear. Larger than many guys use, but I like the larger hooks to carry all the feathers and keel the fly. Double 6/0, or even just a 6/0 in the front would work, but I like the bit of extra weight forward and in the fly in general.
