What rods do you guys throw/recommend for a Super Model?

I'm really short, so I don't want to go over a 8 1/2 footer. Ideally I'd like to find a stiff 8 footer that works.

Thanks - Midge

Don't let being short keep you away from the awesomeness that is 9' rods.

But I would look at the Tackle Industries XH or XXH model. I own the XH and it tosses them with ease. But when figure8ing it can get a little difficult. The tip is just a little to soft on the XH for double 13s IMHO. That being said I LOVE THE ROD! OR the XXH has a much stiffer tip and still has tons of casting ability. You can get either of these rods for an awesome price. They will have deals from time to time as well. James is also a great guy, and provides great customer service! Id go TI

Are you circus midget short or just normal short? Could you ride a Shetland pony and look normal? Seriously though 9'8" XH thorn bros predator is the way to go!

I am 5'10" with shoes and really like 9' rods. Took me an hour to get used to them but now its hard for me to use a 7 or 7'6" rod. I do like shorter rods for working jerkbaits though...

I wouldn't shy away from the 9' rods, especially with the Super Model. One of hte big advantages that bucktails bring to the table is their ability to close on the 8. Thus, a good bucktail rod should amplify this advantage via lenght, not hinder it. There is something magic about the 9' length and the figure 8. The shoe fits...

I've revised my take on the rod for this bait a bit. I love my 9-6 XXH Predator. Some will think I'm nuts since this rod is built to throw 2lbers, but I've been really finding a groove with it. The key is balance, this heavy rod balances the best 13 reel there is, which is the Tranx PG. The balance makes casting this heavy equipment much less onerous than one would think. This combo makes 13s feel like a snoopy bobber on the retrieve and burning is possible with hand speed, not forearm fatigue. The stiff rod isn't ideal for casting these baits since they are light weight, but I wouldn't call it a chore. However, the rod shines in the figure 8 which is what 13s are really all about, especially after dark. The stiff tip lets you add lots of speed changes in the 8 with ease without losing the spin in the blades. Combo is a slow rolling dream come true!

I'm pretty close to being circus midget short at 5'3".

I've been using 8 footers for several years and love them. I do have an 8'6" and just realized that the extra 6 inches is about 2 on the butt and 4 more on the tip.

So I am going to give that 8'6" a try and see how it rolls.

I'd either go with a TI XXH or a Big Dawg. Either rod is extremely versatile. Pair it with a Tranx PG and you can throw just about any bait out there.

I throw all TI rods. For all 10's and 13's I use a XXH. It is a preference of mine but I think 13's are a little tough on the XH. All personal choice. Good luck but I agree with everybody else in saying that I wouldn't let your height deter you from a 9' rod.
