Posts: 284 | I read on another forum people calling a certain lake in Illinois the "premiere lake in the state" and the "best fishery in the state". So my question to those of you that do fish in Illinois, what are some opinions of the best or premiere fishery in the state?

Posts: 26 | Ha! He may be right! I live in illinois and i can say most if not all lakes are pounded pretty good. Youll prob hear kinkaid is good as well maybe the best. Crystal lake, shabona, fox chain are prob on top of everyones list. Im sure someone will chime in with some other lake but with so many rules and regulations in illinois fishing u may came to find out that someones honeyhole is a private lake. I e lake zurich.

shabbona was one of the first. kinkaid is one of the best. shelbyville is up there with kinkaid but less action. central illinois lakes are good but they are small and extremely easy to fish. launch your boat and go in a circle with your favorite bait. if they don't eat change it up and youll figure something out by the end of the day. the amount of fish in the larger lakes generally use predictable areas so even though the central illinois lakes are good those bigger lakes with more fish and lesser crowds are still better and give you the best chance at catching a fish. of course the timing and some other things factor into what i just wrote to be true or not. spring lake is on the top of the list of people who feel an inch early in the season but is like fishing for bluegills in toddler swimming pool. mill creek is one of those lakes that had some nice fish and does not see hardly any pressure. love that lake and its more than 200 acres. mill creek is your answer. its like a mini kinkaid. real musky fishing. practically untouched. not a puddle and not a circus for speed boats and peddle boaters.
