Ok, took a break from ice fishing this weekend and went off to the Green Bay Boat Show feeling again somewhat disappointed. We all know the musky market is small but really couldn't find a rig that I would say fits my needs.

Yeah, the 620, 619 would work but I feel it is just a tad overkill for northern WI waters. Tuffy's x-190 is darn near a perfect rig (wasn't at the show) but I feel when the rare time it is panny fishing with the family (4) in the cock pit is a little too tight.

So while looking at the rangers the rep and I start taking about the new 17' tiller coming out. In the conversation I bring up any chance the 690 or 692 will be re-introduced? Without hesitation he responds, no. I keep prodding and a ranger sponsored guy walks over joining in the conversation just praising the old 690 and 692 he used to own and also mentioning wished that model was still around.

Rep responds again it isn't going to happen (while laughing.....all was in good fun) but I mention bet he could sell this style of boat again throwing a few numbers out there. We trade numbers and I head off.

Now thinking afterward....if Ranger still has the mold, how many 690s or 692s would they have to sell to make it a viable model again?

Am I just a 690 groupie and there really is another rig out there that will work just as well?

Wouldn't a brand new 690 with a max of 175hp keep the price down in the "normal range" vs a 619 or 620? Can't say I would ever drop 50k on a new boat.....the last truck I bought didn't even come close to that.

The 1860 angler wouldn't be a bad choice......but dropping that amount of cash I want what I want.

There is a reason they discontinued the 690. The layout maybe favorable to fishermen, but the the guts of the boat i.e. the gas tank is in the absolute wrong spot in today's boat standards.

I think your just a groupie along with a handful of others.

Ok.....what model would YOU suggest that handles and fishes like a 690? I've owned one and regret selling it. Will own another sooner or later.

I thought I was told that if you had enough money you could order a 690 from Ranger yet today....they still have the mold...they could in theory make you one special order...of course that might come with a high price tag....
the closest thing today is probably a 619 single console or maybe an 1860 single console....I also think there is a lot more than "a handful" of guys who like this size boat and the layout/design...when they do come up for sale in good condition they sell FAST...

I called Ranger last year and asked about the possibility of pulling the mold out and making a 690 for me. The immediate answer was,"no". He didn't even entertain me by discussing cost

They've already got the boat... Put a console in a 618T. Located more aft like the old 690's were.

I have been debating buying another but at some point having a 20 year old hull, wiring, etc. has kept me from buying another used one. Couple that with keeping my wife happy with a dual consol... That said, best boat again IMO...692. Insane storage up on the deck.

Storage issues and lack of long enough rod storage in both Angler series. I don't know... Tuffy, and Recon seemed to have figured that out... Now just build us one with side-tank layout again

Tuffy built the side tank model for a dozen years. It was called the Renegade. Couldn't give one away once the new interiors came out. VERY limited market, even to Muskie anglers.

Agreed. Renegade was a fantastic boat. Rod locker wasn't great, but then again the rod locker in the 681T is worthless and people still love that boat.
