Posts: 34 | I already have a Toro Winch for double-10s. Great reel for that purpose along with the top water lures. Just picked up a new rod (st.croix big dawg) and looking for a new reel for heavy rubber and probably burning double 10-s. Pretty knowledgable about the trinidad, saltist (even though they were not designed for casting all the time, spring on the saltist going out, etc.). I am considering the revo toro 60 hs (30" of line retrieve per crank) for quick take-up of line on jerking heavy rubber. How is this reel for burning double 10s. I know that the garcia 6500 gets tore up on the double 10s and is hard to crank . Will the toro hs work or will it have the same issue as the 6500. After all the gearing in the new toros are more heavy duty and larger. I think the gear teeth on the 6500 only mesh 3 at a time. Any thoughts?? Granted the revo toro will be a little harder to crank double 10s than the toro winch but will it be a lot easier than the 6500?

Posts: 2015 | Just picked up a Shimano 700TE several weeks, wow why didn't I get one years ago? 31" per crank, fast enough for most bucktail fishing, AND absolutly effortless, 10's are about as hard to crank as a mepps marabou on a Revo! Its a big reel but I love it! Slings big rubber effortless as well. Also I've fished a Toro HS for two years, awesome for small blades! - NOT the reel you are looking for for 10's and rubber.

Posts: 34 | I appreciate the feedback. Like I said I was considering the Revo Toro HS. I was thinking that it was a beefier and stronger 6500 that it may work for quick pickup of slack line on jerking rubber and being HS it may work for double 10's. What I have my eyo on is the Saltist, but the only thing I am concerned about is the cam sping on it breaking (I have seen many post about this) and the price only $165. (You get what you pay for). I do not want to be tied up later with a down reel. I can get used to the manual relaeas though (not an issue). I have checked out the 700te and on paper I like it. I am not concerned about the additional cost, (just want a reel to last for awhile trouble free). I do like to cast double 10's so that just before its water I engage it so I can start reeling when it hits water. Are there any concerns with the 700te gearing being tore up doing this? I am trying to decide between the Saltist and 700te. Will the saltist reel in faster than the 700te or is there not much difference?

Posts: 432 Location: Eagan, MN | I have fished a 700te for several years now. It is on my big bucktail rod. A little finicky casting smaller lures, but for d10's and up it's great. I tried a trinidad before that, and sold it within a few weeks. I lost nothing going to the te.

Posts: 146 Location: where the fish are... | the Hs can and will burn double 10's just did it thurday. The best thing about this reel is the increased pick up for "walk the Dog" top water or glides, you can get most glides to work with just this reel. The HS does not burn 10's easily though, you will be worn out after a few hours. From my experience the salist 30 or 40 would be best but you may have to change your grip to the fore grip of the rod because the 30 and 40 are just way to big to palm unless you are 7ft and have huge hands, then in that case congrats. Great all around reel but a little hard to burn 10's.

I burn tens with the saltist 20 with no issues and I can palm it just fine.
