Posts: 278 Location: WV | I know everyones process is different but I was wondering how many baits you make at a time and how long it takes you from start to finish? Thanks.

Posts: 117 Location: holland | I am a slow builder. Making 1 lure from start to finish takes about 4 hours. I am buiding about 5 hours a day. i did not count the drying time of the paint en envirotex. Ill make 1 lure at the time Edited by sybe.m. 7/25/2011 9:07 AM

Posts: 77 | Depends on the design. Probably 3 hours start to finish. Including setup and clean up. Batches seem to help nothing, and may possibly slow the process. At least big batches of 10 or more.

Posts: 73 Location: Tennessee | I make several blanks at one time but then paint them one at a time. I put them on a drying rack until I have enough to go on the spinner. I turned 4 this morning in about an hour then took another hour adding tail weights, sanding and priming. Painting can be fast (15 minutes or less) for a simple 4-5 color scheme or take an hour or more for the complex patterns.

Posts: 1529 | production. from cutting lumber to size, lathe work. table saw, router. sandig . its a production list. we do upwards of 20 pieces daily. the end results from rough wood to boxed product is 3 days.. theres a list of requirments, then theres the list of dunnage. . cracked wood, nicks. wooden lure making is truly a labour of love.

Posts: 73 Location: Tennessee | woodie you aren't kidding. If you don't love doing this you won't do it for long. All of the extras you mentioned, cracked pieces, nicks, the paint runs or etex drips all need to be fixed and add time to the process.

Posts: 1504 Location: Oregon | Hard to figure in "production time" when there is so many variables. How do you account for time to drive to buy the lumber, order screws, order clearcoat, buy paints, maintenance saws, routers, sanders, clean-up sawdust, test lures, advertise lures, package lures, accept payment, maintain website, the list goes on and on. Calculating straight production is about half or less of the time needed to produce from my experience. Lure building is definitely a labor of love but I don't plan on quitting anytime soon. Posts: 184 | I used to only make a few at a time but lately it has been in batches of 50 baits and around 100 a month. Just makes sense to me to do all the same job at a time so I work in batches. As for how long to make a single bait, including everything- around 4 days. Best luck Mr Myers. Edited by zach2626 7/29/2011 3:01 PM

3 Baits for cutting and shaping = 1 Hour 3 baits Weight and filler, epoxy sealer = .5 Hour 3 baits paint 1 hour 3 baits fins and gills = .5 Hour 3 baits epoxy 4 coats of etex = 2.5 hours Assemble = .5 hour = 6 hours per 3 baits - 6 divided by 3 = 2 hours per lure... IMO Edited by MuskyFix 7/29/2011 4:34 PM
