This past winter, I decided it would be awesome to have both a dedicated depth finder and a dedicated GPS on my dash... I do some trolling, and the ability to go full screen on the GPS map and have full screen bottom readings sounded just about perfect. So I had my local boat shop move the Lowrance depth finder I had at the front of the boat to the dashboard, where I already had an Eagle 480 GPS/combo unit. I picked up another Eagle 480 for the front of the boat and had them install that, too, so I could have a combo unit up front... and was set!
Or so I thought.
When I was trying to run both at once, I discovered the Lowrance was having a heck of a time reading depth. I figured since it was a slightly older unit, the unit itself must be going out. But after borrowing a buddy's Lowrance and trying that out, we quickly realized that wasn't the problem... the two units were interfering with each other. One worked just fine with the other one off.
I just talked to the boat shop, and the guy said "Yeah... that's called 'cross-talk'. You can't have them both run at the same time like that." What the heck?!?! Why didn't you warn me that BEFORE I had you install them? At least mention 'hey, this might be a problem'... The transducers are both mounted on the same side of the boat, approximately 8" apart. Would moving one of them to the other side of the transom help? Is there some way of essentially shutting off the transducer on the Eagle unit? Or was I just taken for a ride on the install costs (~$450), and am now basically screwed?
Any help/advice/sympathies would be greatly appreciated. |

Location: Des Moines IA | I run the same set up with a Garmin color sonar, and a Eagle GPS 492C I believe. If your eagle is anything like mine, it should have separate power and transducer cords. If so, all you have to do is unplug the transducer for the Eagle. |

Location: Verona, WI | I am having the same problem. Over the last year I have gotten a couple of deals on used Lowrance LCX-111s where they are not reading depth consistently. Either flashing 999 ft or not measuring for a period of time. If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it. |

| This will happen when you run two transducers with the same frequency. On my boat I don't have a problem until I'm in about 20' of water because my transducers are 18' apart but if I'm deeper than that I get interference.
ON our big lake boat we run two Lowrance's on it and the transducers are only a couple inches apart but one is 200khz and the other is 83khz and we have no interference on them. |

Location: Nordeast Minneapolis | Is it possible to change the frequency, or is that a function of the unit? I'm afraid my eagle doesn't have a separate cord for the transducer... there's one for the power/trans., and one for the gps puck. |

This is a link to a "Transducer extension cord with power leads". Could you run this, then just not plug the transducer in? |
