try cleaning it before you grease oil whatever. The dirt is causing the wear not lack of lube.

If you're going through pawls it could be that there's a problem with the worm drive. Replace both next time, and keep them clean as mentioned above.

I use Ceramic Pawls in all my reels, and I think they work very well. The key is U must keep the worm gear clean. If U grease the worm gear, the grease will hold dirt and sand and the worm gear will wear out fast if not keep clean. I use a thick oil on my worm gears, like Super-Lube or I will mix a 50/50 mix of Hot Sauce oil and grease. But I have to reoil my worm gear once a week of hard fishing.

wow pikemaster you only have to oil once a week with hard fishing! I have to oil the crap out of mine every time out, I have quite a few c3's and I go through them with all of them even a new one does not last long. I use the oil they give you and it does not last long and it's running dry right away it seems.

Not sure why you guys are putting lube on your worm gears at all. Most reel techs I talk to suggest running them "dry" but keeping 'em clean. Anyhow I'm getting some ceramic pawls for my reels based on good reports from others who have had positive results.

I run the Dual Bearings in all my ABU reels and with the Ceramic Pawl, makes them very smooth. I would not run a worm gear dry, but to each there own.
